I know right! This is the best performance of all time, it’s way more accurate than any other. Even Kissin, Berezovsky, and Trifonov’s recordings seem messy compared to this almost perfect rendition!
@BrianaSun I disagree... Although this is almost perfect, I'd rather watch kissin or trifinov play because yuncham plays really aggressively. It's not his fault, it's just the way he was taught.
@@reubenmoisey897It was probably because he had to play all 12 within an hour. There’s a video of him performing all 12 on a Korean TV program before this competition.
@@reubenmoisey897 You should consider that he is still remarkably young. At eighteen and he's already playing all the transcendental Ètudes in a row! His technique is unbelievably good, and the way he handles the passages with minimal fatique is really professional. Although, I'd suggest that he slows down to be able to fully absorb the music. Storytelling is more important than showmanship. Piano competitions nowadays are almost being treated like car racing tournaments
Presenting this level of music not even his recital but in a competition is a complete non-sense. I just can’t wrap my head around… Yunchan should be designated as a human treasure of the world.
I just heard a background to this piece. Imaging Goethes Faust and Mephisto climbing the Brocken mountain following a willowisp and witness the witches dance on top of it and zooming around on their brooms. Nice interpretation, so fluent, the willowisp so erratic, the tension of the situation, just great.
Best thing that happened to the Cliburn - and the world… this recording and the rest of the etudes. It encapsulates everything that a piano, an impeccable score and an insanely out of this world performance can offer.
Sound so much better here than in the Cliburn channel. Thanks very much. I know this is possibly the best rendition compared with the other etudes, but it's still not one of my favourites. Hope the others get uploaded too. Otherwise, I hope I can get the CD in Kuala Lumpur.
Well, there you have it. If this can't be considered the final, definitive performance of Feux Follets, delivered here with astonishing effortlessness and finesse, then nothing else can.
I have a D.M. in piano. I studied with Jorge Bolet and John Browning. I'd tell this young man that playing the piano is not an Olympic event. The title of this piece means "Will-o-the-wisp". His performance, while technically stupendous, sounded more like an angry swarm of hornets. Less speed, more atmosphere and color please!
This is played prestissimo but the score clearly states it's 'allegretto'. A literary analysis of the source material for Liszt's inspiration, Goethe's Faust, and the German folk mythology regarding the 'Irrlicht' also makes a much slower more deliberate tempo choice more logical as it's supposed to be imagery of doom and gloom and not a light-hearted subject matter. Yunchan Lim is an excellent pianist and this recording is musical if ignoring the programmatic content and tempo indication, but his approach to this particular work just doesn't match the programmatic content.
I am sorry, its Chinese pianism-very fast, extremely fast, loud left hand in some places,so,for me its just sport.Kissin is more sofisticated, with easy sound,elegant...
That smile on his face when he plays the piano says it all
This guy is going to have an exciting career.

Hat sich George Gershwin aus dieser Etude beim Komponieren seiner Rhapsody in Blue inspirieren lassen?
Fantastisch gespielt. wow

HOW BEAUTIFUL it is. It's like a heaven.
WOW😊
amazing great ✨️✨️✨️🥳🎈👏👏👏
I'd rather hear Yunchan play a scale than most pianists play a concerto.
I’m in awe!

Insane level of playing

새삼 새삼 위대한 연주
As if liszt was playing it himself
Mic. Drop.
To think he was doing this on barely any sleep...
Pretty sure Liszt thought this was easy.
How to make yourself impossible to be single guide:
Now that's how you use a steinway & sons.
Those facial expressions. Seems inspired by Zimmerman lol
I do not want that VD even as a gift.
Steinway is very late to the party!
Yikes
1957 ASHKENAZY RECORDING ....nobody is even close 📣📣📣📣....NOBODY !
Yes, Ashkenazy is spectacular. But then there's Richter's live Moscow performance from 1958...
Ashlenazy's recording is amazing. But I still think Friedheim's is better.

Is it me...but either the sound recording is not good or it's the piano...it sounds very cardboardy.
