This song leads into Living Loving Maid, on the radio back in the days it was automatic that they would play the songs back to back. I'm loving the reaction to Led Zeppelin.

On the album they ran together but when everything was so "wonderfully digitally remastered" they ruined it and separated them. When they released the box set they weren't even on the same disc. Tragic to me I love the build up of Heartbreaker and how it broke into Living Loving Maid

The reason is because when the album was cut there was very little "dead air" space between songs and DJs couldn't stop the album fast enough and it just got to where they would just let it play.

Poor John Paul Jones. Nobody gives him any credit. He is definitely a badass bass player. When a drummer and the bass player are totally in sync then the band is a band. John Paul Jones and John Bonham sure proved that.

On the album, that abrupt ending goes directly, and without pause into anther song called Livin Lovin...but in cases where the song is all by itself, it does sound like a weird ending. Listen to the album and you'll see what we mean. When played on the radio in those days, they always played both songs, because they are basically one song on the Album.

Plant ‘always singing about woman’....They were in their 20’s during their hiatus.... being swarmed on by woman like 🐝 on honey by thousands and were a rock/blues band.... What else could they sing about??? 😂. No, really though - their often famous songs were about relationships because most people readily relate. Yet, they were multifaceted and the ones below were not about woman:
THAT’S THE WAY - (Awesome concert version Madison Square Gardens NY 💎💎💎 & they were referring to themselves thru much of that song. About folks from opposite sides of the tracks. Solid mandolin & acoustics 🔥🔥🔥.)

    IN MY TIME OF DYING
    MISTY MOUNTAIN HOP
NO QUARTER - Excellent concert version
    ACHILLES LAST STAND
    THE OCEAN

    THE IMMIGRANT SONG
OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY
    BRON Y AUR STOMP
    KASHMIR

I don't think many American's realize how much influence Blues music had in the British and Irish music scene, the number of musicians who started off in blues bands in the 1960's is crazy or the huge number of artists on this side of the pond who took blues music and created whole new genre's like hard rock or heavy metal. Even Pink Floyd are named after African American blues artists Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

My favourite Zep album Led Zeppelin II.
The whole album is a festival of blues and rock and a landmark.

When heartbreaker hit the radio waves the end of the song was so sudden DJs would miss it and the next song "living loving maid" would start. Over time playing both songs together became the norm for DJs across the country. To this day rock radio stations still play Heartbreaker and living loving maid together. I would suggest reviewing living loving maid next.

That Guy I didn’t know that was the reason for the 2 songs in a row. Interesting. I’ve never heard one without the other until now. 😀

Greatest question ever asked about rock n roll
"Why do I feel there needs to be more to the ending of this song?"
You are right, solo should have been 8 minutes long.

On the album it immediately goes into "Livin' Loving Maid"! It sounds strange not to hear it like that!🙄 I saw Zepplin in 1970, I was 17!😁 First concert, first hit of acid!🤯 What a great time to be alive and young!😂🤣

    2 quick things.
    1. Heartbreaker should always be played with Living Lovin' Maid.
    2. The only bad song in Zeppelin's catalog is Hats off to Roy Harper. It has a strange effect on the vocals that I don't care for.

@@nicholaswind7160 to be fair to jimmy page he didn't like living lovin maid. So in his eyes playing heartbreaker without the added song is definitely his preferred way, but most of the rest of the us who grew up on FM radio in the 1970's and 1980's, feel like cutting off at the end of Heartbreaker is like amputating a leg. Well, maybe just a thumb, and that thumb is living lovin maid.

@@rorylapidus5772 Well I don't like Loving lovin maid too much as well, since I'm from 1997, I don't have the feeling that they should be played together, I truly love the way Heartbreaker end.

@@vichedges8858yeah I remember vividly the first time I heard Hot Dog, It's definitely not what I was expecting. However it was done tounge in cheek, so I don't think it was intended to be taken very seriously, however that being said I like the song, it's at the very least interesting to hear Zeppelin's take on a differnt sound then fans expected.
There are some other Led Zeppelin songs released as bonus disc's on the remastered deluxe editions, that are hit and miss.

Here's a link for a live performance of this song from Earls Court. It's really amazing. m.ruclips.net/video/MAZiuZORD38/видео.html Try their song called Tangerine, it's a deep cut and not requested often.

I wish you could have experienced it with the scratchy sounds of LP, and as already stated on the original Led Zeppelin 2 it leads straight into Living Loving Maid. The saying is if you listen to Led Zeppelin on 78 you will see GOD! Great Reaction!
