This song leads into Living Loving Maid, on the radio back in the days it was automatic that they would play the songs back to back. I'm loving the reaction to Led Zeppelin.
On the album they ran together but when everything was so "wonderfully digitally remastered" they ruined it and separated them. When they released the box set they weren't even on the same disc. Tragic to me I love the build up of Heartbreaker and how it broke into Living Loving Maid
The reason is because when the album was cut there was very little "dead air" space between songs and DJs couldn't stop the album fast enough and it just got to where they would just let it play.
Poor John Paul Jones. Nobody gives him any credit. He is definitely a badass bass player. When a drummer and the bass player are totally in sync then the band is a band. John Paul Jones and John Bonham sure proved that.
"Why do I feel like there's something missing in this song? Am I missing something?" Yes, you are. The ending of Heartbreaker transitions into the song Living Loving Maid
This was not before funk. Bonzo was partially inspired by James Brown's drummer. Also, on the album, the abrupt ending to this goes directly into Living Loving Maid, which is a great transition if you are listening the whole album.
I think a lot of fans think it was a parody, especially the "where's the bridge?" line. They were fans of JB and funk & soul. Trampled Under Foot borrows from Stevie Wonder's Superstition. You probably already knew all this stuff anyway but it's cool to see new fans discovering great music
Hate to disappoint you man, but I truly believe you have set yourself on an impossible quest, I been an LZ fan since forever and have never found a 'bad' song, this band rocks like no other.
When I first heard this song I was a nine year old kid and I was just as blown away brother, but I still remember whole lotta love when it first came out: both on LZ2!! Thankyou very much Keep the faith
On the album, that abrupt ending goes directly, and without pause into anther song called Livin Lovin...but in cases where the song is all by itself, it does sound like a weird ending. Listen to the album and you'll see what we mean. When played on the radio in those days, they always played both songs, because they are basically one song on the Album.
