    Man, your sound and slide playing on that Republic guitar is sublime, very soulful and sensitive! The guitar sounds really great, you should be doing more videos playing the resonator. All the Best!!

      👍 Yes the Republic tricorne is best for a moderate price. I had bought mine in 2010. At this time the instrument was made in China, the resonator in Germany and assembled in Usa. I dont know now. Just the case is of poor quality, not so important.

    Dude post more! Miss your videos! Any thoughts on lap slide? I found tone is deeper on the lap but round necks are so much more convenient and versatile from harmony perspective

    The first 30 seconds could have been the full justification for buying it!! Sounds amazing. What's the difference between tricone and single cone, is it just more amplification?

    • @curteisj9491
      @curteisj9491 3 года назад +1

      Exactly that yes.

    • @danvtoppo
      @danvtoppo  3 года назад +1

      Sweet! Good question-I haven’t played a single cone, but from everything I’ve looked up, the tricone provides more amplification and has more sustain. Not sure about the intricacies though-if someone could shine more light on this, please do!

    • @gregormcgregor7522
      @gregormcgregor7522 3 года назад +3

      @@danvtoppo Single cones are louder with less sustain and a quick resolution. Tricones are quieter with longer sustain and a fuller sound

      My National tricone is tuned to open D. It is more bell-like and rings out. In open D, you have three tonic D strings, so it works. My National single cone is tuned to open G. It has more pop and attack; maybe, that is why Son House used one?

    Now you need a vintage parlour guitar set up just for slide and a partscaster with weird pickups of choice!

    Hi Dan.
    Love this Guitar. I’ve got a Dean but looking to get a better resonator. What pickup did you choose?
    As always brilliant playing. Also bought you 50 slide licks.
    Cheers
    Peter (Valencia Spain)

    • @danvtoppo
      @danvtoppo  3 года назад +1

      Hey Peter, I opted for no pickup actually. I figured I could always have a pickup installed if I didn’t like the way it sounded mic’d acoustically. Since it sounds great mic’d up with an SM58, I figure I don’t need a pickup.
      And awesome! Please give me any and all of your feedback on the video book-enjoy!

    What is your opinion in regards to buying a Republic vs a National? Is the real deal worth the price of admission?

  • @1111MJR

    Hi Dan
    Sorry to be a pest but I really want one of these guitars and I think I need a pickup.
    Which one would you recommend.
    No pressure
    Cheers
    Peter

    • @danvtoppo
      @danvtoppo  3 года назад

      Hey Peter, no problem! It's hard for me to give a recommendation because I haven't played a resonator with a pickup, But if I were to get a pickup, I would get a Lace Humbucker (only because I've loved Humbuckers on every electric I've played). Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions

    Also is there any difference between the different models?

    • @danvtoppo
      @danvtoppo  3 года назад +1

      All the "Classic Tricones" on Republic Guitars' website are made of the same material (except for the sunburst and steel models) and have the same features. The only differences are the cutaways and the finishes
