For the record, there's an old Black Gospel song called "We Are Soldiers" whose tune is the same as this & probably served as the source for this sorority chant. That song's chorus has similar lyrics - we are soldiers in the army/ we have to fight although we have to cry/we have to hold up the blood stained banner/we have to hold it up until we die.
@GScott7 is correct. To join you now have to undergo MIP aka Membership Intake Process. Hazing is/was associated w/pledging so that it's why forbidden and illegal. Not to say it doesn't happen.

when i refer to pledging, pledging was when girls needed to walk in line to class everyday, wear the same thing, study together, be seen together in the day time, so that everyone knew they were online. that was pledging. today you don't see that because its now forbidden.
