I'd forgotten how trapping souls worked (the different levels) and also find this video standing up well. I hope it's monetized and the creator is being rewarded for the great content! I recently got the game free from GOG. Had it at release back on Xbox 360 and remember cursing at the random crashes. It's been great diving back in and enjoying the game all over again. And even though it barely uses any resources on my Asus ROG Zephyrus, it still manages to randomly crash /shrug LOL

I started the mages guild questline when I first got it... I am yet to gain entry to the university... I keep getting sidetracked XD so many years can be spent playing this game.
Steven Brown When you clear an Oblivion Gate, the last thing you must do is to remove the Sigil Stone. If you click the Sigil Stone in your inventory, the enchanting menu appears and allows you to give a weapon or piece of apparel a preset enchantment. If you obtain the Sigil Stone after level 17, the effects that you get are usually orders of magnitude better than what you can do at the Enchanting Altar.
@@irisvaldez-porter4463 ex fortify magicka 50 pts or chameleon 25 pts. Cannot enchant them yourself. Enchanting is best for weapons, you can make damage health + weakness to magicka like shadowrend but with higher magnitude and lesser duration for the weakness effect, making it such that it would kill fast but last less, add soul trap for 1 second and with Azura's star you can have a permanently enchanted powerful weapon that you can use.
@cheesebuyer Filled soul gems are two sided. They can be used to make enchanted items, or they can be used to recharge enchanted items. To do the latter just select a filled soul gem from your inventory. You'll then be allowed to choose which weapon you want to use it on.
Feather increases your carry weight and Burden increases a victim's encumbrance. Both spells being particularly useful in enabling you to fast travel when over-encumbered or making your enemies immobile if the spell surpasses the maximum value of their encumbrance.
@VagPaiNeer It's not specific to Skyrim,it's the symbol of Talos. It's the tails side of coins used in in Tamriel, it's found on every district door in the imperial city, it patterns the floor in white gold tower, and is found in countless other places in the game oblivion alone. Talos is used for Skyrim because (of the nine divines), it (he) is a dragon familiar. Since Skyrim involves dragon at the centre of it's story, the use of the Talos symbol makes plenty of sense.
@Fallout3sFinest the imperial library is the most extensive website that has nearly all the elder scrolls lore created for easy and quick reference. It's mostly composed of official transcriptions from official sources.
@ISASPTM Completely install oblivion, then reinstall from your GotY disc and you'll find the wizards tower to be completely absent. All the house plug-ins were only ever published to disc once, and even then only for the PC. They were put on disc as additional content packaged with the original nights of the nine retail expansion. It doesn't matter what you say, the content was never published physically beyond this one instance.
@Renax111 As a PC gamer I've latched onto extremely high FPS as a must. Since AA is the fastest and easiest way to slash your FPS dramatically, I prefer to leave it off. That being said I haven't upgraded my rig in years (I intend to rebuild within 2 months), so I'll probably start using AA again once I have a new machine. As it stands though a rig built back in '08 can't really lift a whole lot of weight today.

Magicka is governed by Intelligence so increasing this to 100 will benefit you with maximum magicka on your character (There are also Racial Abilities, Birthsigns, Stones and spells which give you additional Magicka either permanently or temporarily). You can increase your Intelligence beyond 100 or Magicka using a Fortification Enchantment on your Apparel. Although it isn't necessary to have a high Magicka unless you create spells which require it. Increasing your Willpower increases Mag regen.
one of the best tutorials I've seen around, got a way better explanation than the one I thought was going to,......aside the disturbing humor ... it was awesome...
@LHGH4x0r I have the OBMM friend, but a lot of mods I use are so large and complex, they require the rewriting of files instead of re-referencing of files. Thus a dual install is the only option.
These Oblivion guides are so helpful, the best I’ve seen on youtube. Can you do a video on the best ways of getting large amounts of gold. I’m convinced I’m doing something wrong because my gold has never gone higher than about 2000 and most of the time its spent on repairing my gear and cheap spells. Plus 20,000 for a house? Where are people getting that much gold from? Keep the awesome Oblivion vids coming.
@LHGH4x0r Actually I do used the DarNified UI. It's just I hate getting tons of questions about what mods I use, and how to put them on consoles (ugh!). Thus I have two separate installs of Oblivion. One that I mod and play leisurely, and one Vanilla that I use for recording.
@Fallout3sFinest actually thats all you do with the lockpicking game in oblivion. you keep pushing the tumbler up until it stays in place for a longer period of time. thats when you press your activate button and lock it into place. if the tumbler falls very quickly after you push it up, dont try to lock the tumbler into place, or you'll break the lockpick and screw up the other tumblers. its a matter of patience and reaction time. hope this helped.
"Can't fill a gem with multiple petty souls" Ive been playing Oblivion about four years now. And didn't know that. And have always wondered why the fuck my grand gems are never filled with grand souls.

First time Oblivion player. I'm a raw and in charge orc warrior and I got access to the Arcane University by completing the Dwarven Orrery quest. My magicka and mysticism is non-existant. Can I still enchant stuff? I currently use a basic glass mace, is it worth enchanting it now? Or should I wait for atleast ebony mace? Money doesn't seem to be an issue in this game tho, I'm lvl 13 and I got 30k gold. Much thanks!
Look, both games have awesome experiences in them, and I like both... Oblivion felt warm, complex and mellow, and Skyrim feels cold, simplified and manly... If you are a true gamer (that enjoys games, not run empty debates over them) you will appreciate both of these epic games (including Morrowind that I never played :( )
That outro though.. hahahha.. Thank you for this guide (even though it was posted quite some time ago... it helped me understand (sort of) basic enchanting! :)

Correction Grand, Black, and Azura's Star all have a max cap value of 1600. Azura's Star not leaving your inventory after being used just becoming empty and can be fill with all types of souls except NPC souls. Black soul gems can hold NPC souls and Grand level souls only.
go to a Mage's guild of Mystic Imporium in the Imperial City. They sell soul gems, though not any soul gems with grand souls. You can also find them as random loot in dungeons and oblivion gates.
If you have the dlc the tower house has the enchantment/spell creation instantly as long as you can afford it, no quest/guild needed just gold. Frostcrag tower or something like that, the tower home. @devastation134 A console game's PC counter part will ALWAYS look better. It's just a matter of weather or not the computer can run the game at higher settings.
If you do not want to advance your mysticism skill, you can kill Umbra with poison (or lure her to the City guards) and use her sword, which contains 125 soul trap "spells" each lasting two minutes. Hit an enemy once with the sword and then switch to a different method of fighting. It is perfect for use with conjured creatures to recharge magical staves.
You can go to a blacksmith to repair and someone in one of many mages halls have a person u pay to recharge... you can also recharge with soul gems by clicking on them while in ur thing
The lighting symbol represents how much charge is expended on each use. This only applies to weapons as they expend their charge with every successful attack and must be periodically recharged. The Candle represents how many uses the weapon will have before it is totally depleted of charge and must be recharged.
William Strife Thanks, that was helpful. Couldn't tell what the icons were for and got annoyed that none of the enchanting guides I watched explained them in the video.
Find them in necromancer caves, buy them from any mage merchant, and dupe them by double tapping a scroll you have multiple copies of in your inventory and dropping the preferred item. Works with everything.
I have enchanted a few items using sigil stones from oblivion gates recently. I was surprised that this way is not mentioned here. Is it an add-on or did you just forget? Your guides helped me a lot btw
I already knew everything told in the vid, I just watched it because it was enjoyable, like all of you videos. I use Umbra for my soul trapping, but it makes it too easy. Seriously, my mage had multiple armour pieces that all fortified magicka by 24 and a ring that fortified it by 50, I had about 700 magicka, I could cast spells that could kill anything with 1 hit. My main sword had drain health 100. I also had the 100% chameleon and several armour pieces and spells to increase acrobatics lol
There are various magical stones scattered through out Cyrodiil which provide abilities which can be used every 24 hours. There are also spells or scrolls which fortify Magicka or Intelligence which increase your total magicka. For more info, you should check the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages
You find them in dungeons and shops they are actually really easy to come by. They are in a dungeon near the sewers and baisically in alot off the magic shops so this just shows me that you played the game for a top of like two hours.
I have been recommended to your guides on Oblivion and I have to say the recommendation was certainly worth it. Excellent work! I am already fully fledged with the Arcane University. I have to be because I'm on PS3! I am at Level 29 but still a bit green on the enchanting side of things. I know about Soul Gems and how to fill them - that's about all really! Can you give me step by step method of enchanting a bow that has everlasting arrows? By the way, regarding the fines for necrophilia - I recall Cary Grant had a standard tariff!
@S0LiDsnAke36 gotcha. thanks! i find it funny how if you combine the concepts of the torque wrench from fallout 3's lockpick and the tumblers in oblivion thats actually a very close recreation of how you lock pick (tension on the wrench then get the tumblers to go up (except in real life the tension wrench holds the tumblers up with the tension you place on it))
I have everything you told me to get; A filled grand soul gem, a plan item, a LOT of gold, and a spell, well, the spell i'm using is a chameleon 25% on self, I bought it off the vendor and equiped it on, but I don't have enough magika to use it. But you said you don't need the proficiency to cast the spell, so, when I went to the Chironasium and the enchanting altar, I put my item up and a filled grand soul gem, but to my suprise, all that came up were Light and Fire damage, not chameleon!
Thanks for the video mate. I'm playing Skyrim for months already and there are things I'm still learning and I never played Oblivion but the same principles aply I gues tho with different names sometimes and I've read my share on uesp and skyrim wikia and your videos some things were easier to understand. I even think you provide additional info here that they don't. It's not they don't know but they don't mention them. Sorry not to be specific.. err whatever.. maybe it's just me, ty mate.
Just something on the topic of enchanting. If you enchant enough jewelry and clothes/armour with greater/black soul gems with a chameleon spell it is possible to be completely invisible and still interact with the world. Maybe you could include this in a stealth tutorial for oblivion?
How can I make some boots similar to those of Springheel Jak (re: The Ultimate Heist - Theives Guild quest)? Is it possible? They increased Athletic ability by 50% (I think) - bloody useful - too useful not to have! I wish I'd known that they get destroyed at the end of the quest, I would have taken them off for the big drop!
my character was a wimpy magic high elf ,i got full body steel armour and enchanted it with strength or woz it feather and chose paralyze for my enchanted staff ,but i cant find those flaming magetallow candles do i have to buy them from a person or shop in the game .a good way to make easy money is make potions and sell em .
This sheer quality and effort this video radiates holds up to this day. Fantastic work, dude.

What confuses me is why does enchanting needs gold? Who are you gonna give the gold to? The enchanting altar?
Tuez- Vous Daedra?
Kokoro
Maybe, but is that how it works? Do enchantings require daedra assistance? Do daedras even need gold?
Tuez- Vous The souls go to Oblivion.
The golf could be because of the privilege of enchanting, and you have to pay.
Well what about when you are basically the leader of the mages guild? It's pretty bs to pay to use your own tools.
Overhead for purchase, upkeep, and housing of the altars.

The only thing you need to know about enchanting is ... sigil stones and fortify magika +50 on all your gear

@S0LiDsnAke36 gotcha. thanks! i find it funny how if you combine the concepts of the torque wrench from fallout 3's lockpick and the tumblers in oblivion thats actually a very close recreation of how you lock pick (tension on the wrench then get the tumblers to go up (except in real life the tension wrench holds the tumblers up with the tension you place on it))
Nice job, very high quality guide
I have everything you told me to get; A filled grand soul gem, a plan item, a LOT of gold, and a spell, well, the spell i'm using is a chameleon 25% on self, I bought it off the vendor and equiped it on, but I don't have enough magika to use it. But you said you don't need the proficiency to cast the spell, so, when I went to the Chironasium and the enchanting altar, I put my item up and a filled grand soul gem, but to my suprise, all that came up were Light and Fire damage, not chameleon!
Where do I get a filled grand soul gem?
i love your word choices.
Great video! Do you plan on making Rage videos too?
@Linkthe1st hey your right im picking up oblivion for the wait till skyrim, and your guides are super helpful =D
Hey could you possibly do a guide on how to create a black soul gem?
I don't think 3 seconds is sufficient time to enable me to survive the long fall or is it?
Can I create a spell that lasts longer?
my character was a wimpy magic high elf ,i got full body steel armour and enchanted it with strength or woz it feather and chose paralyze for my enchanted staff ,but i cant find those flaming magetallow candles do i have to buy them from a person or shop in the game .a good way to make easy money is make potions and sell em .
