Quick question, do you not seal the model with a varnish entirely? Then go back and gloss the gem? I’m just worried that the trays might take some paint off after a while if I don’t varnish the entire model.
Yeah you could do. I never really varnish any of my minis and haven’t had any issues. Unless they’re getting knocked about in the trays regularly I wouldn’t think it’ll be an issue as they’re not a tight fit.
Can i paint the gemstones with only the contrast paints? I'm new to painting and bought a couple of bottles of the contrast paint, but didn't buy all the acrylic colors.
Hi and thanks a lot for this tutorial. I'd like to know if someone could say the difference between Brass Scorpion and Balthasar gold ? Similar paint or not ? Brass scorpion is like tin or bronze material maybe ?
That was awesome! Exactly what I needed :) Question on top: I thought that you would have used some Nuin Oil on the stone. Is there any reason why you did not?
The wash just dulls down the layers and blends them where in this effect I wanted to keep the brightness. You could use Nuln Oil if you want a dirtier effect on the stone for sure.
@@BlackJackLegacy Thank you, and yes, I prefer to do the basecoat, wash and highlight at last. Would not had thought that the whole statue can / should be drybrushed but the result presents how right your approach is. Thanks again, this will help me a lot!
Awesome stuff mate. Really efficient process! I keep trying snapping my fingers and my pile of shame and they don’t prime themselves.. I wonder what I’m doing wrong!
Thanks a lot for your advices. I will use it to paint statues. Good choices about colours.
Wow, that dry brushing makes those models look incredible!
Wow had to sub after this... gonna see it you have videos for ppl just starting out painting minis... me and my son both want to get into it
will u do tutorials for all the champions?
Fantastic video as always!
Just used this method and they came out wonderfully! Thank you for the tutorial!
I followed your method and love the result on mine.
I think these will be the first I paint for SFB. Thanks for the inspiration!
You’re very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Very nice process. The tip with the varness was really good.
Thanks mate. You can find some great tutorials on making look like they’re shining gems but by just making them glossy they actually do shine.
I'm part of the Facebook group you're in. Great work!
Thanks Dan. Glad you liked it.
Great little tutorial this mate. Quick and effective 👌🏻🦀
Cheers lad. Sometimes the simple stuff never gets shown and new painters are overwhelmed of where to start.
Such a well presented clear video great stuff :)
Thanks mate. I enjoyed making this one.
Nice work mate
Thx for the video! I will try this :)
Excellent work bro!
Thanks Jason 👍🏼

I just received my Super Fantasy Brawl and was hoping to find exactly this tutorial! Really nice--thanks a lot.
Happy to help mate.
Does this technique work with small miniatures such as those in zombicide?
Yes it absolutely does. Just build up the layers slowly so you don’t overdo it.
@@BlackJackLegacy Perfect! Could you please also recommend the ideal size of brush for a small miniature.
Dry brush wise something around the size of a Games Workshop medium dry brush. It doesn’t need to be this one but that will give you a size reference.
Such an amazing job! Are you vanishing the complete statues at the end?
Thanks. I haven’t varnished them but you could matt varnish them before adding the gloss.
Can i paint the gemstones with only the contrast paints? I'm new to painting and bought a couple of bottles of the contrast paint, but didn't buy all the acrylic colors.
You can but you’ll need to maybe paint the gemstones white or light grey first before painting with the contrast paints or they’ll be very dull.
Really effective result. I'm always averse to using gloss or satin on minis for whatever reason, but this might get me to change my mind. Nice :)
Used sparingly it has some great effects to just give something a different look or look wet. Give it a try mate!
@@BlackJackLegacy For sure :)

Great video, looking forward to trying this on a 3D printed model. Do you use the Citadel Chaos Black primer or do you have another you prefer?
I tend to use Colour Forge Matt Black primer now. It’s the best I’ve found and both bigger cans and cheaper than Citadel.
@@BlackJackLegacy Excellent, I'll give that a try next time!
Love the snap ;)
Like a Geordie Thanos 😂
That was awesome! Exactly what I needed :)

Thanks mate - you’re using the wrong Primer 😉👍🏼
Where is this palette you use from?
It’s just a white ceramic tile. You can pick one up as a sample at any diy or tile store.
I see u havent managed to straighten that staff on the red one too.Havin trouble with that. The plastic keeps bending back after thermal treatment.
Yeah I did it before and after painting too. Doesn’t seem to want to stay there too long!
Might glue a piece of wire to it and mask it like this.Great vid thx gonna use this
Thanks mate - I think I’ll just live with mine. It’s not so bad in the grand scheme of things.
