A chap was admiring a beautiful sculpture of a horse and asked the sculptor how on earth he made something like that. The sculptor replied, 'It's easy. I get a block of marble and just cut away everything that isn't horse.'
Was this very difficult, or what skill level would you suggest? And dust or the like? I'm impressed and would like to know what sort of investment in time and resources to see if I could do this. You are the master at this DIY, and make it look so easy!
Lots of dust, definitely don't do this indoors, and definitely wear a dust mask, but it was really easy. The material is soft and carves with only gentle hand pressure. Have a go! The materials are so cheap, it doesn't matter if you don't get it right first time.
@@AtomicShrimp What an elaborate story to tell the cops when they want to figurine print you. "Yes, sir I have a yt channel and made this really cool block deal-y, no sir I didn't rob that bank"
This channel is like tv used to be when they had no idea what to put on TV, so it was a mix of all sorts of random infomercials and how-to videos. Today children, we're going to make a head out of concrete, but do make sure you ask your parents if they've finished using the concrete!
You remind me so much of a practical lyndebiege. Like you have a soothing voice and have so much knowledge and you like to show it off in an interesting way that involves going out there and doing it. I've learned so much from you in just half a day. You've improved the quality of my life.
Excellent work. I remember my brother doing something very similar back when we were youngsters, staying at our grandparents house, probably the best part of 60 years ago. I have just spent time searching through old photos to see if I could find a picture of it. I scanned a lot of my dad's old photos in, years ago, but I haven't found that one in my records. I know the head was still there a few years back when I visited my Uncle who lives in the house they built next door and I think that was one of the left over blocks.
That looks like my Uncle Chester. Always wear breathing protection when doing projects like this so you do not get pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
If you paint on some diluted natural yoghurt it'll age and weather it within a few days. Just to give it that (I've been here on watch fer 10,000 years look)
If you put live moss in the yogurt and blend with blender, paint onto the concrete and when dry, mist with water and the moss will grow all over it. It's a great effect, just don't overwater it. Beautiful work sir. Keep it up.
I watch this vid whenever I’m feeling anxious and like I can’t face people, it’s relaxing and uplifting , the music and talent and the hopefulness it exudes work wonders for one’s state of mind, thanks Mike ☺️ I’m sure it wasn’t supposed to be a self help anti anxiety video lol let’s just call it the Shrimp effect.
Great job on the craving this and even a greater job on making this one of the calming videos on RUclips. This shut put me to ease so thanks Mr Shrimp.
At first, i thought he only does scaambaiting and weird stuff in a can, and as soon as i saw this video, this man is actually talented! Give this man more subs! He deserves it!
I just wish I had house... and space to spread concrete dust all around. Anyway, you're great inspiration to me, I hope some day I'll be able to craft things with my hands just like you!
Brilliant. It was not until fairly recently, that it was found that some Moai have stumpy little arms and legs. Some have long ears, some have short ears. Most things about Rapa' Nui are enigmatic - they know that a written language, Rongorongo existed, and boards of characters have been discovered - but the means of decrypting them are not there.
Mmm, not sure about that - it is essentially artificial limestone, but it's probably very alkaline, maybe after prolonged soaking it could be used - this is something to check with an experienced aquarist
Love your channel, so many different types of things to watch and all done with a charm and style that has me up at 3:30am watching you slice up parsnips for a 97p meal. Now your'e sculpting too? My only question is, what can't you make?
I recall you saying your daughter is an artist, it appears she inherited at least some of that talent from you...I know I inherited some of my own from my dad (both parents actually, but still)
I think you may be me from the future. So the time-traveling worked and so did my RUclips channel that I've always wanted to do. Also my fascination with the Easter island heads and annoying scammers. Did I ever get around to going to space?
I've got a block of this stuff I intend to carve, but I know it's pretty fragile. Would a layer of laquer or varnish keep the finished product mostly together?
this man's talents have no bounds
Filthy_prankz I was just thinking that!
Ok
I am The Grass Man and I think this head is great, but let's take a moment to appreciate the beautiful grass in your yard
Oh, its not good
Alright then.... I guess.
@@AtomicShrimp All grass is good, as long as it is real, not that plastic bullshit!

Thanks Atomic, I've been wondering what to do with all these aerated concrete blocks I have lying around!

Very cool. Can you imsgine that guy was hiding inside that block for all this time, and you set him free!
Eating ant pupae followed with carving a Moai head from aerated concrete. I never know what to expect from this man.
I'm just afraid one day he'll mix two videos up and ends up eating concrete and carving things out of tin cans...
This: ⬆ 😂😂😂😂😂
Your video videos are so underrated. This channel deserves more attention!
Well share the videos then dude
Oh wait this is the same guy who does the scammer videos. That's an interesting mix of talents lol

Oh, and gloves, definitely. Fingerprint unlock on my phone doesn't recognise me now
Utter coolness! I think I will!
Make sure you get the aerated blocks (regular concrete will be impossible to carve). Good luck!

The variety on this channel is amazing... I subscribed after scambaiting but stayed for the sheer variety and epic content
Such relaxing music. I'd call you a Jack of all trades, but at this point it seems your rather a master of all.

They are more than just heads you need another 6 blocks to make one of those things. Amazing things they are.
Oh aye that Moai looks like my sister in pretty much every selfie with those goddamn duck lips 😑
Brilliantly done.
The song made me feel like I was gonna die soon. I don't know what but it just sounds like the lobby music to limbo.
I think I might have used the 'sad' filter on RUclips Audio Library
It's amazing that you can use a handsaw and such with this material, never realised how soft the stuff actually is
Yeah, I imagine that means it won't be terribly durable, but I plan to try to get moss growing on it which will hopefully stabilise the surface
A perfect video... Clear, concise & really enjoyable! Can the finished piece be submerged under water such as fish tanks?
Mmm, not sure about that - it is essentially artificial limestone, but it's probably very alkaline, maybe after prolonged soaking it could be used - this is something to check with an experienced aquarist
