Arthur Mendes you said in 2010's.....Mariah is a legend she will always be in the music book ☺ or something like that. But now she can't sing like before. .she lost it. Beyoncé brandy they still slayyyyyyyyyyyyyy....they got it.
Chris tromp that doesn’t even make sense. If they’re so fast that you can’t hear them then how would we know that she’s been doing runs if you “can’t hear them” as you claim. Her runs can be heard perfectly and clearly by anyone with a working ear. I swear y’all lambs be making stuff up just to make Mariah seem better than what she actually is.
@Jo-Ash Scott Official He means you can't hear all the notes she does in her runs. They're visible, but you have to put the video on the slowest speed to hear the notes individually. And Mariah perfers the runs to blend in with the melody more instead of having random runs off to the side.
Anyone anyone with a working ear can hear all the individual notes when Mariah is executing her riffs and runs. Videos don’t need to be put in the “slowest speeds” in order to hear them.
there are a ton of girls non famous and not signed to majors that girls that these girls could not hold a candle too. Susu Bobien is way better and so is Michelle weeks absolutely sweat less!!. Maria sounds like she is trying too hard
Mark G actually they are hard to do because it's not the typical 'airy' runs other singers do. Her runs are precise and 'thicker' (I don't know how to exactly describe it). And her best runs happen on the LIVE settings and the collections here don't give justice to what she's capable of (watch 'Dangerously in love' The Beyonce Experience where she did a 'thick' and 'throaty' runs in the last part like HOW).
I listen to every genre including classical music which I love. I've heard a lot, but there is something the way Beyonce does her runs that separates her from the rest. I don't know maybe it's the 'hiccup' technique she does mid-phrase (sometimes in the middle of syllables). Also she does different varieties of runs. I don't want to explain. You better go and watch for yourself since you are already in RUclips.
Mark G don't mistake the speed for being 'basic'. Yes, she may not have the fastest runs but the STYLING of her runs are very intricate. Have you even heard the runs she did in her 'Dangerously in love' performance live at The Beyonce Experience in LA? Go check it out on the end part. That run was not your typical 'airy' runs you hear from all these singers. I can't even explain how she did that it sounds like it came from her throat yet the speed tells you that it came from the diaphragm. I've been practicing runs and I can already do fast airy runs, but that particular run always makes me so damn depress because there's no way I can do it I even send the link to a vocal expert and do a tutorial about it to this day I haven't heard one tutorial on that type of run execution.
Yesss for including Joy to the World and All the Man That I Need. Woo Tiyon gave me life. Whitney and Mariah are so special because of the way they retain that huge resonance and rich tonal quality throughout every single note and still being so agile. Omg and Hood Love, Slower, Emotion and Make Me Over are in this
I really would recommend you use more recent stuff from Beyonce like the 2007 and above I you should've tried songs like "Dreaming/Superpower/Dance For You/I Care/You Changed/Rocket/Love A Woman/I Rather Die Young/I Rather Go Blind" I think allot of those songs would've been more impressive since her tone is much more developed on them.
Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan ("Masterpiece" ALWAYS takes me DIRECTLY out the game), Kierra Sheard, Tonex, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, KEKE (YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!) are absolutely BEAST when it comes to those runs. And Claudette on Message to You, YAS! Epic SLAYAGE! Tiyon - YAS! on "Sleep In The Middle")
Beautiful collection! What a Magical World of Artistry. So blessed to see the torch pass and people find an appreciation for young and old. We can all shine bright. Again beautiful collection!!!
YES! whitney's 'JTTW' and i LIVE FOR mariah's ' oh jesus, what a wonderful child'!!! :D I love deitrick and stevie! whew! i got my life from this GREAT JOB! ive been planning to do one of these vids! :D
Beyoncé actually has THOUGHT Behind her runs. She doesn’t just “wing it” her control is the Best I’ve heard. Sure other singer may sing different scales out of the norm specifically minor chords and scales alas Kim Burrell and Brandy but that doesn’t make them better
YO usually I skip videos like this or Im sitting here cussing at the computer like really? BUT your list is pretty slick. The very fact that it opens with anything from brandy had my attention from git. there was a couple of things in there where I as like ummmmm nah but at the same time, this is not my video but yours. with that being said. You should look into Joe's first album entitled Everything. there are a BUNCH of runs that you could get just off of that one alone cause just how brandy changed the game when she came out he did the same for guys. Additionally, two songs with Tonex come to mind God has not forgot and Seasons. The fact that you mentioned the clark sisters already puts you WAY ABOVE most people who make vids like this in my book, not that that matters but Great video . if you are talking all around coldness of singers and you are going back all like that. dont forget about Sam Cook, Donnie hathaway, Layla Hathaway, Aretha, Gladys, Prince, the lady that song on diamonds and pearls with prince, The lady that song the church scene from color purple TA TA VEGA! dont forget about the British chick Karen Wheeler from back in the day. (Most of you have heard her and DONT know who she is but she is the chick from Soul TO soul) Jay Moss, and there is a cool dude that sings good as hell that not many people know about his name is Rich King. I have only seen a couple of his songs here on youtube he usually sings like acousticy type shit but he vocal ability!!!!!! I know he has one song called Jpeg and another one called the Villan I think. He is definantly worth a listen. He doesnt do too many runs and shit but his pure texture reminds me of Donnie ALOT! Any way good vid and have a good day
+Todd Maek Thank you so much for your comment! I appreciate your feedback. I know that this video only includes a small glimpse of the incredible runs and riffs in R&B and Gospel music. I definitely have to do this video in several parts because there is a lot of people to include. Thank you again.
I don't sing. However I am a HUGE fan of music & REAL talent (and the "Angelfully" channels as well). I was wondering if anyone can school me real quick. I don't know what a Run, Riff, or Melisma is, they sound similar to me tbh, & its difficult for me to differentiate.
+Marrico Rogers Hey, thanks for commenting. Riffs are a short set of notes that are sung repeatedly....for example at 0:57 Beyonce's runs in "Next Ex" are riffs. Melismas are a set of notes sung in one syllable. For example at 2:47 when Claudette sang "I..." she used about 21 different notes for that one syllable. So frickin impressive. A lot of the other runs throughout the video were a mix of melismas and riffs. I just grouped them under "vocal embellishments" because I was being lazy lol. I hope that explains it.
You cant do a compilation of descending runs without including Prince's melisma from Little Red Corvette... Great choices though!!! Also... check out Samoht and Yebba for some killer runs :O
+Angelfully 2 great video as always I can honestly say I made I good choice in subscribing to you, your videos have entertained me since your old channel. But I must ask as much as I love 97% of the singers mentioned, why no Clark Sisters they have been running queens for 30+ decades
@Slaydaya Coleman, have you ever heard of Joshua Rogers, Leandria Johnson, Alexis Spight, and Lena Byrd Miles? You may want to add these people to that list. Those are vocal pros in my book.
Mariah's way of doing all of these runs just blows me away!!!!!!! She is a true vocal master.
swacman04 she was...Now she fails
Arthur Mendes you said in 2010's.....Mariah is a legend she will always be in the music book ☺ or something like that.
But now she can't sing like before. .she lost it. Beyoncé brandy they still slayyyyyyyyyyyyyy....they got it.
+michy mych she still can u dump bitch
Chris Orlando if you said that
@@michelminko6842 She's an established vocalist and has nothing to prove. What's the point of saying this? Lmao
Beyonce, Brandy, Mariah, Jasmin are amazing. all of them are!
Yep
Yes... I think so... Beyonce number one...

@@trishab.9913 Look, I respect your choice, but you know damn well, that Mari ah Carey is untouchable.
No one realises that Mariah Careys vocal runs are so fast you can barely hear them when they are slow down you hear them.
She is amazing 😉
That's because they're utilized in Legato. I'm not ignoring her agility.
Chris tromp that doesn’t even make sense. If they’re so fast that you can’t hear them then how would we know that she’s been doing runs if you “can’t hear them” as you claim. Mattie Anti plus jasmines voice was sounding fantastic as little kid where you wouldn’t even think was a kid and Whitney was always the best
gospel runs are the BEST
I think Tori is way too underrated.
She should be more popular duo

Mariah & Beyoncé are the best
And Whitney
Young Singers And Whitney and Brandy
And Brandy
Mariah and Brandy, at 0:30 Beyonces runs arent controlled well as well as the rest of the video. Brandy is better at runs than beyonce
Can't nobody touch brandy with the runs! She's bad!😍
She's very touchable listen to more gospel singers
She is to gospel singers as mentioned above but what makes her runs stand out is her unique and addicting tone.
Devonta White She's definitely not touchable with the runs even in the gospel department.
Her runs can't be learned. I use her run to teach myself and yet im not even close to what she can do.
Beyonce her melisma so fast, natural and beautiful ...

also runs don't need to have thought. runs actually aren't supposed to have thought, they're usually spontaneous
so happy jazmine sullivan was mentioned so underrated and so talented
