- This is a relatively easy and low cost fix and quite common among many brands of leaf blowers and string trimmers. Just search on amazon or google (Snap in Primer Bulb for Stihl Weed Eater McCulloch Ryobi Echo Primer Bulb ) and the primer bulb for this blower will appear. Good luck with your repair. Cheers

Love my Hitachi blower. Going strong for 8 years without maintenance but I'm having this issue. Glad to see your video. Going to try it out.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
Thank you, the primer bulb was exactly the fix, $6.99 for the bulb on Amazon and 10 minutes. Like magic. Thank you.
Awesome 👍
Nice video, easy to follow and well explained. Our blower has been hard to start since new, finally couldn't get it gowing. Was about to dig into primer bulb/carb and checked the spark - it was very weak or non-existent. Replaced the plug and started like a champ - I suspect it's been questionable since new. Will tag this video for future reference.
Nice to see you figured it out John 👍
Mine starts cold and never starts again once it’s hot. Been a terrific blower for many many years so thanks for this video.
Easy fix , your engine is running too rich. Adjust the low and high speed fuel screws and it will start fine when hot after.
@@SteveRobReviewsthank you!
just bought one for $10. followed your trouble shoot tips and got it running for $8 :) like your videos and will be back if I run into trouble.
Awesome. Thanks Mark .
Awesome fix Buddy! You are the man! Amazing that a little part can prevent something from running properly.
Thanks bud , these primer bulbs just dont last that long at all if your using it a lot.
That was a great fix Steve. You got'r going like new again.
Thanks Lloyd , I use this blower a lot and suprised its lasted this long :)
Nice fix mate 👍 ... Good that they are not too expensive keep a bunch around just in case 😉😁👍👍
Thanks Igor , easy fix , I wish they all went this smooth 🤣🤣
How's she goin'? Great fix there Steve!! I bet there are lots of these types of engines that get tossed because they won't start and all it takes is a $1 part and it's as good as new!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Yes sir and in my experience I usually spend a lot more till it's fixed so this was a treat. LOL
Had the same thing happen to my backpack Husqvarna and the pump thing is not sold so I was looking at these but then I took it apart and There was a gasket with small valves that I have put in the wrong way the last time I took it apart to see how it worked so now it workes....these primer bulb don't last too long....the one on the wife's push mower is shot so I use a bit of quick-start ....she only uses it when I`m not around to cut the grass with my ride-on mower....she`s scared of it.....CHEERS
Your so right about the bulbs especially of you use them like me in the cold weather too. Cheers
👍👍
Happy Thursday...blessings and much love to you...😘😘
This solved my problem thank you. Also tightened the throttle as well. And realized the refurb unit I bought has a junk gasket. Go figure
👍
Keep up the good work Sir !!! Great maintenance video !!! Cheers !!!
Thanks Dave. 👍
@@SteveRobReviews Good night Sir !!! Cheers !!!
Great video, Steve, and thank you! I see the model you have has the two different size grommets (one big, one small) on the fuel tank like my RB24EAP. I believe similar ones (or another variant) has a single two-line grommet for the tank. All the replacements I see online have the single two-line grommet, or I see 2-pack aftermarket grommets that look like the small one but there doesn't seem to be the bigger one anywhere to be found. Do you have a source or link for the replacement grommets like the one in your video? Thanks for any help with this!
Since these are no longer produced I'd contact the manufacturer directly for parts you can't find online.
How long does the line from the bulb go into tank? Mine seems short, but not sure it needs to be in the gas itself
@@raven7401 The black line into the tank is a short one , just a return fuel line .
Replaced bulb and adjusted gas line going to tank and works
Awesome 👍
I've grown to hate my gas powered leaf blower. I changed the fuel lines and rebuilt the carb (and changed the primer bulb) and it ran great, started first pull for a couple of months, now it's hard to start again. I'm gonna stick with my cordless blower!
LOL Bruce you don't give up now . I worked on a trimmer a while back drove me nuts and in the end it was the fuel cap plugged and not venting , as soon as I unscrewed it a but it ran like a champ. 😆😆
Yes, you're right that those primer bulbs don't last too long as well as those plastic fuel lines. Good tip to keep the blower running! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Terry and them factory lines don't last that's for sure.
Do you have a link on where to get the primer bulbs?
Hi Brian
I dont have a link but an easy search on Amazon or Google will find the best price in your area.
Thank you for the great video! I just bought this blower. Could you tell me the exact two cycle oil you are using in yours? Thanks
I use stihl regular oil not synthetic.
@@SteveRobReviews Ok thanks!
The clear line from bulb into gas tank, how far does that line have to go in? does it just need to go in grommet about an inch or all the way down tank?
One is a return and the other that goes thru the primer bulb goes all the way into the tank.
Thanks for this... kept adjusting carb and changed the spark plug. After watching, I noticed the primer ball wasn’t getting the air out of the line
Give that a try. Cheers Chris
Starts right up now... thx
I have one that's great machine 👍😁
Great video Steve! My Craftsman Blower is hard starting so I removed the two hoses from the carb and got no resistance by covering the ports. I pulled the carb apart. My bulb is a stand alone bulb held in place with a steel plate. There is a thin .002" diaphragm under the bulb. The diaphragm looks like it acts like a check valve. Where can I get replacement diaphragm? Thank you!
Thanks Chuck , I seem to get my parts off amazon , its just matching the specific model.
I hear you, I keep a few in the shop in 2 sizes.
Good to hear buzz , so you know your always going to need another one soon😂
Dam I learned something today. Thanks buddy
Thanks bud thats a nice thing to say.
Nice fix Steve
Thanks bud much appreciated.
Ok..I tried new carb, new hoses, new coil..still dead. That leaves me with timing. I pulled the magneto and the key seems very worn but it was hard to tell if the timing was off. Is there a way to tell where the magneto should be at top dead?
Well George I would make sure the stop switch is OK. Hope it's not stuck in the off position or a wire is not grounding the coil. The flywheel only goes on one way so there is no other timing.
@@SteveRobReviews I checked that and it working fine. The only thing I can think of is the key in the magneto is worn and the magneto isnt timing right. Thanks...this is baffling me. I love this blower and am determined to figure it out. I have a new magneto on order. It has spark and wont start on starting fluid so the only thing I can think of is timing. Ill post back if I figure it out. Thanks for the help.
Good fix 👍
Thanks bud much appreciated.
It's that time of year.
Yes and for me it switching my leaf blower from leaves to snow :)
Hey Steven, may be you can help me with this one.
I have a blower, it's starts after a prime runs for a few seconds and dies. Then again, prime, starts, dies. smoothies it revs before it dies.
Good compression 130 PSI, good spark and ignition switch(Tried from working blower) , Flywheel ( removed and checked ), no spark arrestor and even tried without the muffler, checked cylinder exhaust, tried fresh gas new carburetor. New fuel lines and gas filter.
Would start after each prime and die.
Any ideas.
Yes absolutely I think this is what's wrong . I'd say your diaphragm is torn or distorted or you have a carb passage plugged . When your priming it , your bypassing the carb so it's the carb not flowing fuel .
I tried new carburetor and nothing changed.
Did you try the same brand new carb or did you buy a new aftermarket carb. You definitely still do not have fuel flow .
I'd also pull the fuel line that goes to the filter in the tank and make sure you can blow thru it , also all the lines must fit tight to the fittings. The gasket from the carb to the intake must be in good shape too and tight. Just some more ideas and lastly, I'd check to make sure the wiring to the stop switch is not shorting out anywhere causing it to shutoff .
The fuel lines are new, and sit snug on the carb fittings, the gasket is in good shaped the kill switch wiring is fine. The carburetor is aftermarket. I also have a Tanaka hedge trimmer with eh same issue. Mystery.
May I ask you this question:
I will take it off and check. However...I do get fuel on the bulb as right now.
I picked this blower from the curb. Put fuel and started right away. Used it for a day. Next day would not like to start even though there is fuel going to the Carburetor, I know this because when I pull the spark plug it was wet.
I put a new spark plug.... Nothing. I will give it a try.. And try to update. Hopefully you read your comments
Well it's getting fuel , try starting it with some quick start just to get it going , not too much :)
I love mine, it isn’t too hard to start and has good power
They are very well built 👍
Steve, mine wont start with starting fluid
Joe if it won't start on starting fluid it's not getting a spark or the flywheel keyway has spun (unlikely) or the exhaust port is plugged. Check the plug for spark.
You can replace the bulb without taking the carb off. Take the gas tank off instead. Its easier.
Yes absolutely 💯 % correct. Cheers Gary 👍
Steve. I have this exact leaf blower and rebuilt the carb recently The bulb was ok. Now the blower is getting hydro locked every time i turn it off. Any suggestions
Joe when you say hydro locked are you saying the cylinder is full of fuel ?
Yes. It is full of fuel
The fuel tank is below the carb so the only way I can see that ever happening is if your hanging it upside down or hanging it vertically with the nozzle down and the fuel is draining into the engine .
Not at all I store it setting on the garage floor. Could the bulb be going bad and allowing fuel to be siphoned into a hot engine. Or could the needle and seat be hanging open. I replaced them when I rebuilt the carb
@@joefranklin7335 Wow that's very odd. The gas cap is my first thought to allow this to happen. I would try using it and then loosen up the cap and see if it happens again.
great advice steve
Thanks buddy 👍
I never would have suspected that.
Terry for most the primer bulbs last pretty good but I do use mine every day all year round.
OK. Took mine apart. The bulb works as described. However during the process of taking it apart I broke one of the hoses because it was too brittle. Maybe it was that.
After I replace the hose I will try.... If it doesn't work I will be clueless
😂😅👍
@@SteveRobReviews I got it running. However.... It took more than 20 pulls to start. When it did it was dragging his ass for few seconds until it finally started running better 🤔. Nothing like the first time I ran it.
I'm using trueFuel 50:1 mix. I ran it for around 20 mins no issues. Hopefully this will be the end of this trouble. Is a great blower. If I encounter more issues I will shoot you a line here. Thanks for the help
New carb, new gaskets, new hoses, new primer bulb, has spark..tried three new plugs. Will not start still. Any ideas?
George try pulling off the muffler and see if the port is plugged.
Same exact thing going on with mine, just spent an hr removing and checking everything. Seems like timing is off,.. what did you figure out George??
@@DK-Bigen I never got it running. After replacing everything and checking the timing the only thing left was compressiom and the new piston block was almost as much as a new blower so theyve priced us into a throw away situation. Its a shame because I loved this blower. I took well care of it too.
@George Des dismantled and cleaned everything still no joy, ordered a piston kit for 21 vs a compression test kit at 33. Hopefully will see
I can't remember ever having an issue with a priming bulb. Y'all must have some really bad gas up there ;)
Jay I'm thinking the cold weather. I use mine year round . I only use high test gas no ethanol.
@@SteveRobReviews Yeah, might be the cold weather.
Mine starts and when I push the throttle is bogs down. You think it could be the primer bulb? Thanks
Dont think so , sounds like it's not getting enough fuel or the air filter is plunged solid.
@@SteveRobReviews the air filter is new. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem myself? Thanks
Look in the fuel tank and make sure the filter is not plugged or pinched fuel lines. If you can keep it running while priming the ball its plugged up in the carb most likely and a carb kit and cleaning is in order. Easy to do actually.
@@SteveRobReviews OK I'll do that. Thank you
@@SteveRobReviews hey bud I bought a new carb and looks likenit fixed the problem. Have a question though. Are the mufflers on these handheld blowers suppose to get so hot that you can actually see the heat come off of it or is that another problem? Thanks in advance.
Hi Steve. Today this freaking blower doesn’t want to start.... Something is wrong and I can't figure it out... Bulb works, New fuel lines, carburador looks clean, the spark plug is receiving electricity... I don't know what else to look.
I don't understand how it started the very first pull when I picked up from the street where it was sitting for few days... God knows when was last started. Then I ran it and now after fixing the fuel lines it won't start. Even yesterday it was a hard task to start it.
Any other suggestions please?
We the first two things you need is spark and fuel . For testing leave the air filter cover off. When you are checking for spark at the plug it's out of the engine attached to the plus lead and your ground the side of the plug to the engine and see if it's actually sparking then onto the fuel side , not enough fuel or too much causes a no start . If the plugs wet theres fuel or dry no fuel. I like to use a bit of quick start to verify because it fires up very easily if there's spark .
check fuel filter/replace they are cheap/sign its fuel filter does'nt idle
No issue with the priming bulb. Blower only starts with starting fluid. But when running I sprayed it on the part of the carb connected to the intake and it shut off. Is that a vacuum leak? It’s driving me nuts.
I would take the carb off and take a look at the gasket its 3 minutes to do or try tightening down the carb screws to the intake.
@@SteveRobReviews carb is brand new. It’s those cheap amazon ones. I have another new one I might put in. But I bought a new insulator intake. The piece that connects to the carb and has the reed valves behind it. My guess maybe the valves are bad there is a very small gap. Super small but it’s there. Not sure if that’ll fix it.
Oh man I have went down that road of aftermarket amazon carbs and it never worked well for me so I don't buy them but not once but twice did and chucked them right in the trash bin 😅😅
@@SteveRobReviews a lot of people say they’re not bad but do get some bad ones from time to time. this leaf blower I’m working on looks pretty new barely used. But it was on the curb. I guess the guy got sick of trying to fix it now I’m the next poor guy trying to LOL maybe the carb is no good.
@@manasseh7 Id put a new carb kit in the original carb if you have it and it will run great . I've lost too much money trying low cost carbs and my arms hate them too . LOL
Replaced the prime bulb and it ran great for 3 uses, then wouldn't start or run. Tested the bulb I had installed and it was bad. Figured I just got a bad one, so replaced it again and same results. It ran great for 3 uses and now the bulb is bad again. Any ideas?
Wow that's very odd . Must have gotten a bad batch of bulbs because it worked for three times.
Mine has spark, and still doesn’t start when I spray carb cleaner down the carb or put fuel in the cylinder. Any ideas?
I would make sure the exhaust is not plugged is the first thing that I would check.
@@SteveRobReviews ok I will do that next. Thank you
@@SteveRobReviewsWell I took the muffler off, put a new plug in it and checked compression. It has 120 for compression. I still can’t get it to fire off at all by putting fuel into the cylinder or spraying carb cleaner in it. Thinking of maybe checking the flywheel key next?
Good idea since you have air , compression and fuel the only thing left is timing .
@@Lightningmicro How did it go? Mine is doing the same thing. Has spark and fuel. Rebuilt original carb then bought an Amazon replacement. Nothing worked. Checking the exhaust next but curious to know if you solved it.
My homelite blower I got off me dad was hard to start. I have a new carb on it. Also replaced the line that has the fuel filter on it as it also then rotted in half. I can start it with easy start sprayed into the cylinder but cant pull start it from cold normally. Am I right it's a fuel delivery issue, assuming the new chinese carb works properly. With easystart it runs until I stop it so I guess the carb is ok. Think il test the bulb and maybe replace the other fuel lines?
Chinese carbs are hit and miss for reliability. A vacuum leak at the bulb causes a hard start , lack of fuel most times so I agree with you , yes lack of fuel.
Everyone needs a good sucker!
Or in this case a blower :)
Nice !
Thanks bud !!
Mine starts and dies, and caskets are eaten up by the weather in time.
Yes the carb gaskets do deteriorate over time.
@@SteveRobReviews is the the reason ,it starts, and stalls?
@TheDominic079 not sure , there could be many reasons.
those cheap bulbs dont last ! your right a year is all you get usually
