So my odometer back light stopped working. Took my cluster out and removed the rear cover, and looking at that same small component where your broken solder connection was, I also found te same result. I didn't need to remove the needles and disassemble any further, as I was able to resolder them still assembled. Thanks for the awesome video, and explaining the process.
Nice work, Chad. I’ve repaired a few digital dashboards on C4 Corvettes (dead or very dim dashboards) by reflowing capacitors. Your explanations are so clear and professional, you’re a gifted teacher and exemplary diagnostician.
Thanks Dave, I have a feeling I’m gonna have to learn more and more board level work in the future. I am ill-equipped at the moment, but I’m planning on building a suitable workstation for board testing, repair, and module cloning.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My 2003 Dodge Ram had the exact same odometer problem (intermittent then inoperative). It was even the very same capacitor causing the problem! Thanks to your video, it was very easy to fix. My name is also Chad 🤣😂🤣
Great video....I to own a doge 1500 STI Hemi. It runs fairly well with 237k miles om it! but I'm getting around 9-11 miles a gallon with no load on the high way!!!!. I also always use top grade full so just figuring out the best next step. Thanks, Tj
Good job 😎👍. And also I don’t know what was different in your filming this day, but that lighting was spot on. You must have hired a beautiful assistant to hold a light for you. Wear your seatbelt ❤
Thanks for the detailed video. I'd like to remove the unit to get it all cleaned up and fixed up. Will the truck still drive with the cluster being removed?
Hello. Great vid. I’m having problems w my lcd and light display. Everything was working fine then all of a sudden the lcd , engine lights etc, odometer, turn signal doesn’t show but they work. Just no display . Also the backlights for gauges work but nothing else. Still runs great but I need to fix it, hard to drive wo the lights and hearing the turn signal clicking when using. Any help much appreciated!!!
@@WarriorNurturer-vg8fd yes just recently. I usually stay low in gas tank. Always refilling at almost empty. But I got some overtime and decided to fill up gas tank. 133$ later of 89 octane the damn cluster just lights up, brighter than it ever has! Try that, if not u might need some chips resoldered.
Please help me. I have a 2004 5.9 cummins 2500. None of my dash lights work they were working on and off after I bought the truck but now completely dead. At night I can see my cluster if my lights are on. Any pointers?
Hi Chad, Your full explinations of the problem and possible causes are just amazing . But here is one I have not found anywhere yet that shows a possible reason for my 2004 Chrysler grand voyager is tha the odometer reading does not cange the value of the distance travelled it just remains at 101288. what would be your reasoning for that . Sorry the speedometer is working well.
I have an issue on the same instrument panel where three of my Dash lights work, and none of the other ones do. I replaced the bulbs and it doesn’t make any difference. I’m curious if you think it might be corrosion on the board or the lights plugged in or if there’s a resistor that powers different sections of the light

I don’t have one for that issue but the troubleshooting may be the same. Make sure you have proper inputs for the illumination circuit and if so just start reflowing solder joints of the resistors until it works again. 02 is an older design and likely simpler to diagnose
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 two-wheel drive I replace the three speed sensor and the differential and transmission my speedometer is not working I hook my scanner to the truck and I can't get no speed what is the problem that speedometer
All my dash gauges turn on and off like intermediate wipers. Drives me crazy driving down the road and they turning off and on and off....any ideas? Somebody said it could be the wires in my door.
I typically have it set to 350°C some times I bump it up to 380°C. Leaded solder flows at lower temps typically so it can help to add just a little leaded solder when reflowing.
Can anyone answer this question please ? I have a 2006 dodge Cummins 3500 with 226520 but the whole cluster is shot. I found one one line but the miles on it 129760 when I hook it to mine will it read my miles or his ? Please advise

Same thing here on my 04. Just fixed it without fully disassembling the cluster.

I haven’t touched a corvette cluster yet. Normally it’s 99-07 gm trucks. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
Chad, you always find a way to raise the bar. Bravo!

For our next production you get to hold the lights and camera at the same time.
@@ThePracticalMechanic I know that’s only double the work but imma have to charge you 6x my usual price. Inflation 🤷♀️
Thank you this video help me with my 05 ram 2 wheel drive 4.7 both LCD display quit working now working

I have these EXACT same symptoms. No lights except for tach speedo backlight. Did you ever figure it out?

I am no expert on cluster repair but on this one I just reflowed as many resistor as I could and hoped for the best.

Do you know if there is a fuse for the blind spot system on a 2014 Town and country van???

How do I take the pins out ?
Found 1 integrated bad, is cuadrate of 64 pines.
Hola, friend. My trouble is, no power my cluster,
Thanks homie !
I have a 2002 Ram 1500 SLT and the odometer back light stopped working. Do you have a video on how to troubleshoot the backlights?

The doors can be unplugged in the door jamb if you wanted to eliminate those from the equation.
What temperature do you set your solder iron to reflow those components?
I typically have it set to 350°C some times I bump it up to 380°C. Leaded solder flows at lower temps typically so it can help to add just a little leaded solder when reflowing.
I from venezuela, gracias.
Also I don't have no lights on the dash that are "out" but they are din. ??
Smack the top of your dash above the gauge that's dim, that's how I got my fuel gauge to brighten back up again
change this integrate and dont power.

The mileage is stored in the cluster on most of them so it will read his mileage.
