BMW F10 M5 Detail Series: E1 - Decontamination

- It's the start of the many episodes for the F10 M5! The long detail series will start out with the Decontamination step which will get the paint ready for polishing. I start with a rinse & a wash using Obsessed Garage Decontamination Soap. Next I remove any iron left on the surface with an iron remover like CarPro IronX, once it has set for a while give it a rinse off. Now we want to mechanically remove any contamination left on the paint with clay, I use a synthetic clay called a NanoSkin. After all these steps you dry your car and get ready for taping & polishing.
The next video will be cleaning the engine bay and dressing it with Meguiar's Hyper Dressing.

With a corvette you'd need white new balances, calf-high white socks, and denim shorts. You and Michelle would also need matching corvette leather-sleeved jackets. You'd have to film a "Day In The Life" video at Perkins or Denny's with your corvette friends. Yeah, Dinan stroker is definitely the way to go.
Matt, IND will paint those chrome strips in your door handles body color if you take them off and send them to them. I was talking with Ryan about doing it on mine. They used to have a core program, but they don't anymore. Either way, it's still worth a couple days of down time.

I think since you aren’t a huge fan of the colour it might be a the perfect opportunity to give the Optimum Sprayable PPF with the colour changing a go. PPF without the edges sounds like exactly what you’d want, especially on a car which will be used a bit more like the M5

Idk how old your car is but anything pretty much after the 90's have a hook to leave your gas cap on. Idk anyone that takes there cap off and puts it on the car or gas pump when there is a hook to set it up lol That little rope is absolutely 100% the most useless thing, it bangs off your car and scratches it, gets gas all over the car when doing so and looks like trash. rope-less is the way to go

@@ViperRoleplayfivem LOL, well I must be showing my age, as to the best of my knowledge the fuel cap tether wasn't included on cars until mid 90's, so I am guessing no one has owned a car prior to that. And I would also guess the whole reason for the invention of the tether was that people were losing their fuel caps or else we wouldn't see them on cars today, unless there is another purpose for them that I am missing.
@@MrBenw72 Well yeah they added it for that reason, but its the same concept as putting a warning label on bleech not to drink it. Anyone with the IQ of 10 and above knows not to drink it, as well as anyone with an iq over 10 can set there gas cap on a hook and doesnt need a little tether like a dog lol I mean i get it, its a cool concept but like Matt in the video I would much rather drop my gas cap on the ground than have it slip out of my hand on that tether and smack my fresh paint and possibly get gas on it and/or damage the paint.

From past videos to this one you seem alot happier and in a better place mentally. I don’t know if it’s because your therapy is really working out and you are making the best out of your life. Or if it’s just because you have a couple M cars in the garage now 😂. No matter what It seems to be working. Glad to see you in a good place. If you happen to miss a few spots of contamination will the machine polish remove it ? At the place I worked they spun the clay disc on a machine and it swirled but using it by hand didn’t always take the grit 100% off

Why not mix the iron cleaner with a bucket a water and then just let sit? I was thinking to what about using it in a foam cannon?

Just wanted to ask for some tips on your 2 bucket wash method, something new to me. Do you not rub the pad against the grit guard after its been on your paint? I have the incredipad as well and it didn't seem like all the small leaves come off the pad when you simply dunk it in the water. Also, which grit guards do you have and think are the best? What do I need to do to get the pad as clean as possible in the rinse bucket after its been on a dirty car?
I don't find that necessary, but some do. I use actual Grit Guards in my buckets. I don't use their wash board option.
That will get you in shape if you did a couple a week!! lol.... It's going to look great thought!

Wasn’t Matt supposed to dry or blow dry the engine before he applying the hyper dressing?, won’t that completely change the dilution spraying on a wet engine ?
I have always looked for a better door jam cleaning technique, but I dont understand when/how the door jams get rinsed in doing it this way??? I get that some of it gets rinsed with the exterior but does the drying aid procedure take care of the rest of it?
Most of the soap gets washed away when rinsing the car.

I just got a Miata last month and ordered a special collegiate plate which I had to wait 2 weeks for. Drove the car 2 weeks with no plate and never had a cop give it a second look. I was sort of amazed actually.
The gas cap rope... In Oregon we arent allowed to pump our own gas and it drives me crazy!!! Watched an old man the other day hold my cap for about 5 seconds and I could tell he wasnt sure what to do with it before just dropping it as I watched it bounce off my quarter panel... This was before he grabbed the windshield washer and proceeded to start scrubbing on my windshield while Im yelling at him to stop... Took his squeegee away, went to the trunk for a microfiber, hung my gas cap properly, and cleaned up his mess myself... Might adopt the cutting of the rope technique. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Please let us know how long is it going to take you to loose your gas cap, when you open the door for put gas you can see the cap holder .
Welp...I have 5 cars and 4 of them with same thing. Gas caps are cheap. I'd rather lose that than smack my fender.
Since you are transitioning to Optimum Ferrex, would it be worth switching to their clay towel since you can use the Ferrex as lube for that product? It would allow you to skip an entire step in the decon process, while delivering the same result.

One thing never mentioned and not in the description is what was being sprayed for the synthetic clay step. I'm assuming it was the iron x being used again after letting it sit step. Is that correct?
