I get the feeling that there are a lot of little kids right now who one day will have "my parents thought this would be a kid's movie and it REALLY wasn't" stories about this one
This is exactly why I watch stuff first before I show it to my kids 😂🤣😂🤣
@R. G.B. Just about to say this , I was an adult who found it creepy.
@R. G.B. This is wayyyy more unsettling than Coraline.
Watership Down… 🐇🐇🐇
Oh yeah, definitely 😌
I have tremendous respect for people who have the patience to do stop motion movies/series. When it takes 24 shots just to make one second clip, just the thought of having to painstakingly create one itself makes me want to trash and burn those beautiful film sets with their beautiful puppets to the ground.
You mean 24 shots to make one second ^^
makes me**
Literally 💯
I believe most stop motion is NOT done at 24fps, but 12. On the topic, Mad God is being released soon. It's Phil Tippet's Magnum Opus.
Who hurt you😭
This whole movie was a strange, weird, unique and most of all an amazing ride, I can’t explain what I think of it. Just watch it and get your mind blown. 10/10
The symbolism! I geeked out in all of it
So damned enjoyable. 10/10. Never realised how much Jarvis Cocker sounds like Bob Mortimer.
1/10 from my gf and I. Utter drivel and not the uniqueness we hoped for. No real overarching story and we understand why, three different directors. Why they put this up as a movie, instead of just making three short shitty films, one will maybe never know.
I swear i have never watched something awfull as whatever this is. Can netflix get any worse?
@@hecatommyriagon655 you and your gf have no taste…
I feel like, after watching all 3 parts, the main thing in common with them is the idea of obsession and each story focuses on how you deal with said obsession.
i think it also might be desparation!! and how it gets out of hand
All of them didn’t appreciate what they had as well. And then lost everything trying to chase some fantasy of a perfect life and house
Thats an interesting detail I honestly didnt know how to describe the first story other than being greedy. The second one I supposed that it dealt with like you said obssession and for me toxic people its really cool how the rats who are destroying the house look very similar to the parasites that were driving the poor rat crazy. And the third story I assumed it was like fear of letting go of the past because an obssession with an idea. How cool.
Yes! I also think there was a class commentary on seeking upwards mobility through material possessions. Characters become increasingly isolated from love and connection from others the more they obsess over filling the void in themselves through the desire for an extravagant house.
The parents and the developer lose their “humanity” by the end of their stories. The cat is told she’s losing herself, to which she replies no one knows her. Yet by the end of each story, once they leave/give up on their dreams of wealth, the sisters still have each other, the developer finds a community, and the cat (the only one who learned a lesson before it was too late) rediscovers herself and what she really need to be happy as she moves on with the people who care about her.
Wow that could be true! First part, the parents became the very thing they obsessed about (richness, good furnitures). Second, the mouse became the very thing he obsessively wanted to get rid of (vermin), and the third, Jen decide to free herself by keeping the old and go forward and not let the house chain herself
The film industry needs more originality and creativity like this.
It does just very rarely do those films make their budget back and or get the audience they deserve.
They make them. They just get overshadowed by other more commercialized films.
No
Originality doesn’t necessarily mean good
did you know that such things are always going to be a rarity?, uniqueness is fundamentally, well.. UNIQUE, otherwise it would be the new norm, and stuff even like what we've just watched would become bland, i know the concept of anthropomorphic animals, the 19th century, and strange houses are getting boring for me.
This trailer in itself is amazing. Unlike the other trailers, where the whole movie plot becomes obvious, this one is quite unique. Is it a horror, mystery, comedy. Looks really promising.
Confusing
It’s three separate stories which means the trailer creators can make room for creativity and vagueness.
I have no idea what's happening here, and I love it.
Thought the same exact thing!! Lol
I legit don’t know what this movie will be about
The sound design is what really struck me. All those creative sound choices they made set the mood very well thus misleading all your emotions making you wonder or think you know what is going on but you don't.
Yeah! The soundtrack from the first story is very unsettling, it's kind of influenced by Hereditary.
@@dave3286 Oh yea! it does!
The first short was eerie, the second one was traumatising and the third one was genuinely cathartic. They're all quite memorable in their own way but the third one had the biggest emotional impact on me and I will be thinking about it for a long time. You could say that it's an artistic demonstration of the "sunk cost fallacy"... literally and allegorically. It applies to so many different situations in life, especially those with the most intimate value. Amazing work!
Agreed - all 3 were beautiful but the last one was just.. idk exactly but as soon as I connected where the story was going, I sobbed the rest of it. Absolutely stunning
Someone finally figured out that horror and stop-motion really work together! Can't wait to see this
The Nightmare Before Christmas and stop motion animation has been included in scary films before, like Clash of the Titans
Ehhm literally Coraline?! (And Paranorman ect)

I put off watching that film, despite loving LAIKA studio productions, for the longest time and when I finally sat down to watch it, I was totally charmed. I could see it being a bit scary to little kids...but I still can't watch a Nightmare Before Christmas or James and the Giant Peach because they scare me too much hahaha
I was like “Oh, my kids would like this, omg this looks disturbing, nevermind, omg I’m gonna love this.”

I have just finished watching this and oh my... what an experience. This is the kind of quality I am expecting Netflix with all their budget to put out. We had Arcane, and now this. It is simply amazing to see the possibilities if they invest more in animation, and I am excited to see the direction they are going to.
I'm more addicted to this than I expected to be. I want to see more of these characters stories, especially Rosa's.

It could be a message like greed is bad /
Maybe for 2nd movie you'll become as your surroundings people/
3rd is getting out of our comfort zone
@@smallhuman280 I think it's just a movie about the evil of capitalism: the first story is set in the past so it's also telling the roots of capitalism, with the contrast between the aristocracy and the poors, who they just see as puppets. The second story is the lowest point of capitalism, constantly mentionin the recession, the investment, etc... and picturing a working class man being used and abused by the rich, who are compared to literal pests or parasites, as if they were parasiting the working class. Finally, the 3rd story is optimistic, it takes place after an immense crisis comparable to climate change and the rising water, a cause of capitalism, and the few survivors of that crisis have to learn to reject the system, reject the past and break free from their chains, sometimes physical sometimes mental. So I see the stories as a progression : the birth of capitalism, its paroxysm (the most striking story as it is also the closest to us on a time scale), and finally its possible demise in a story full of hope
I thought it was the opposite, it was actually about letting go because the things you own end up owning you
Well I thought it was about humans rats and cats living together in ONE house 😭
When Netflix said they were going all-in on animation, this was not what I imagined.
It's better.

It reminds me of an Argentinian tv series called "La Casa" (The House) that tells in every episode a different story and aging of the same house in different decades (the 1940's, the 1950's). And explores on each chapter a different genre. It was very interesting.

Emma De Swaef: For me, it’s really about the puppets. I was making puppets before I was actually doing animation - I was studying film and making puppets. Puppets are a really exciting thing: just making something and then imagining that it comes alive… that's the beautiful thing for me. And stop motion, of course, allows you to not just imagine that it comes alive, but it really comes alive for people to see as well. So, for me, that’s the big draw.

What a beautiful art form for film. Watching the behind the scenes for Kubo and The Two Strings and Isle of Dogs gave me a newfound appreciation for stop motion films.
I think the meticulous and detail oriented nature of stop motion media creates its own filter. I think the best stories easily rise to the top.
I feel you’d enjoy Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit if you haven’t seen it yet! It’s one of my favorite childhood movies :)
Really liked the third story, the story/ending was light hearted and relieving after the other two. The characters were loveable, the flooded post-apocalyptic setting and the visuals were beautiful too.
we dont see a lot of horror animated films lately. this one is an absolute chefs kiss.
Omg, it's one of the only trailers that gave me goosebumps. As someone who's done a few stop motion animations, I know how much planning, preparation, work, skill and patience is involved in this type of art. The trailer looks absolutely breathtaking. Can't wait to watch it ❤️
The is really looked like something Jan Švankmajer would make. The trailer especially reminds me of his "Alice"
Remember to watch this when it comes out y’all! We need to encourage Netflix to keep funding this originality
The prospect of stop motion has saved my life on many occasions, whether it was watching a beloved movie for what I thought was the last time, energy sunk into art projects to distract myself from a dangerous home life, or just consuming behind the scenes content on popular works in this great genre, stop motions are an amazing example of art that I hope we always have. Countless hours and hours poured into expressing something that stillness alone couldn’t achieve ❤️ this is beyond exciting
The definition of movies is changing day by day. This is just a unique idea in itself.loved it.
The very first movies ever created were made in stop motion though haha it's like the oldest movie technique actually
Personally love how netflix products or finds these gems, and give us the opportunity to see these on the platform. Such an hard work, Stop-Motion :)
Hollywood doesn't like good movies, so Netflix takes them, Netflix did the same for The Irishman when Hollywood didn't want it

If Coraline and Fantastic Mr. Fox had a baby on steroids.
This movie is divided in to 3 stories about what is going on in 3 different houses. 1st story is a creepy horror story, 2nd story is about madness and the 3rd story is about not knowing what you want till it is too late, I also believe that the 3rd movie is about a mental illness and losing yourself, it felt to have a deep meaning the more I thought about the story. The third story was my favorite and had me in tears when it ended, it was a beautiful story and the puppets and their movement was some of the most beautiful I've seen in a movie. All of the stories are very good if you enjoy stop-motion. I give this these movies 8/10, 7/10 and 9/10, the third one was close to the same tier of perfection as Coraline, amazing!
