I feel like some of the answers were cultural. Even compared to what they said about women in New York, Japanese people's answers were somewhat different. For example, "being good with their hands" "having broader interests" "Resilient" etc. How about your country? Do you think people have different answers in different countries? Oh, I also think that different parts of the US have different answers. I'd like to talk more about how Japanese people think of genders, including subtle cultural gender discourse. But I obviously can't talk about everything so if you are interested in this topic, you need to be able to understand Japanese. So get my free lessons here bit.ly/3nvmPKz
Lived in Hungary for most of my younger years. No one respects women there. Women live to become sexy baby machines and cook and clean and also work a job because no one can afford a lifestyle of only one parent working. Women are "a burden", they are "terrible snakes" etc. but they have to be sexy. It's honestly disgusting. I live in the UK now and while this place isn't perfect either (what place is?), people do respect women more, and it's refreshing to see them actually being happy and not turn into backstabbing, ignorant, abused because society expects them to. (Men in Hungary are also insufferable bastards. No respect for anyone. It's really bad.)
I think it's universally true that men are better at compartmentalizing. Generally speaking, if a man has a problem with someone, that problem is what has to be addressed. If a woman has a problem with someone, that entire relationship has to be addressed. I think this is part of the reason that, when polled, both men and women prefer male bosses (at least, if they're being honest: www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/our-gender-ourselves/201407/both-men-and-women-prefer-working-male-boss).
The sad thing is it shouldn't even be a "trap". Men in general lean towards being better at certain things and so do women. I imagine especially in NYC though, where it is quite liberal, they've been brainwashed with the "evil patriarchy" idea and the idea of "equality" has often morphed into women being better than men.
Yep. This is because we accidentally trained people to think less of men in our quest to make them think more of women. We're all this together, the battle of the sexes is BS. I just wish more people realized that.
@エリック I just follow a simple doctrine. You attack me. I will retaliate. If a woman punches me. I do not give two shits if its wrong to punch a woman. Its wrong in the first place to attack me. As such I would never do anything to anyone without the expectation of being treated the same back (naturally I get kinda mad when a debt in kindness isn't paid).
@@ceresbane Don't count me in your opinion pal, "America." I went to over 30 countries in my 20's and I have Japanese friends that have been to over 20. But by and large, I believe you are correct.
my rural chinese family see men as stronger (for manual labour) but women as having a more level headed and caring nature. But in Dongbei (north of china) our women are seen as very strong and less level headed sometimes 😂. This was very interesting, i love seeing different cultural perspectives like this, thanks Yuta.
well because female got more privilege and rights which was a horrible idea the whole point of discipline women is so they maintain being good I feel the people oppressed are good but when u stop oppressing them they become bad.
@@ericx6969 so you'd like to be oppressed...? By your logic it would make you a good person, so you should really consider it as an option for yourself... ;)
I definitely think that people were just scared of being called sexist in the US for saying men are better at some things and I think that’s really bad I’m female so before any angry feminists attack me assuming I’m a man, I’m a woman who thinks it’s not equal if men aren’t allowed to say things but women are. That’s called sexism. Sexism against men. Women are naturally better at some things, men are naturally better at some things due to genetics and nature and how they’re brought up etc. It’s not wrong to say that. If we can say things that women are better at, we should also be okay to say which things men are better at.
Yet even you are afraid of being attacked by some random angry feminist. And you are a female :) I agree with you completely, just pointing out that the "fear" is real.
I think it is a matter of ethics, some people think people are naturally better at certain things because of gender but some people would rather say that is not correct and points to nurture ( many social psychologists for example ). I’m one of those people, there is no right answer but I would argue that it is the structures in society that builds how men and women are, there are studies that show how similar the brains of men and women are when they are born but how they develop differently, I don’t think this is natural, I think this is about how one is treated. I recommend reading Christine L. Williams for more interesting input
Ida Fruitboot You’re right that the claims aren’t always true and don’t represent every man or every woman and obviously nurture does play a part. A woman can be better than a man at something men are generally good at if she is taught/trained to be better, there’s no gender block, people are capable of breaking the stereotypes but the stereotypes are there to represent the majority and the general consensus based on what things people have witnessed from men and women they know. The problem I have is that people think it’s offensive to make claims for one gender but fine to make claims for the other.
PetrSojnek Yeah, only difference is I will speak the truth. Obviously we have political correctness for a reason and there are reasons why we shouldn’t say some things but making a harmless comment about men being generally stronger physically/whatever just isn’t offensive and there’s nothing wrong with saying it.
As a man, I accept my flaws and improve things I'm good at. I'm pretty shitty at multitasking and learning multiple things at a time, but when doing one thing I can do it very thoroughly and precisely. The fact that the American women couldn't say one good thing about men, without whom there would be no modern society, is beyond me
You can tell from that very short footage in New York that the atmosphere is tense to the point of it feeling like a war zone when it comes to speaking about topics like that. Totally not normal and not healthy. No, more like one has to become mentally ill living in such circumstances sooner or later. The footage from Japan, on the other hand, seems rather relaxed and normal, with people giving their honest opinions. The difference is shocking. We, the West, are not alright. By the way, I love your channel Yuta. You're doing great work.
Of course we have differences and we should be totally comfortable talking about them. When my wife needs a bag of compost moved in the garden, she asks me to do it because 'A' it's heavy and 'B' there might be a giant Japanese centipede, (mukade), hiding under it and she is totally terrified of them. If she wants something built in the house or garden, I get the job, even though I'm not that skilled with woodworking or laying paths etc. If I want my clothes altered or repaired, she is much more skillful at such things than me. She was raised to be a housewife in a very traditional culture but I don't see anything wrong with that as long as she and I are both happy with our roles.
Here’s another ignorant weeaboo who constantly goes around insulting America thinking it’ll get them any respect from Japanese people. Do you know just how many deep and cruel issues Japan has to face? Clearly you don’t. Also wtf are you talking about the New York footage feeling like a “war zone”? Everyone there was calm and you just felt so desperately to insult America even if your insult made zero sense. You seriously need to watch Nobita from Japan or Shogo’s channel where they explain the large number of piercing societal issues in Japan since you’re so delusional that you think Japan is a utopia.
@@allingtonmarakan1436 It's not so easy apparently. Check Sargon of Akkad channel and video on Pierce Morgan feelz vs. Korwin-Mikke facts. Mikke is a politician who keeps getting into trouble for bluntly speaking things, and even if they're taken from statistics or academic research, it sparks a lot of controversy. Partly because he touches taboo topics like average differences between different sexes, and partly because the man has a sloppy way of expressing himself but even without the latter, modern media and many politicians are eager be against recognizing the fact that in population you can find averages that are different for different groups, and therefore equality of outcome is impossible unless specific measures are taken to discriminate against someone. This was also repeatedly addressed by dr Jordan Peterson who got bashed a lot by the media and politicians although as a man of academia and clinical psychologist, he knows about these things better than most people who ever challenged his statements in public.
7:37 _This_ is it. Stop denying that differences exist. Differences between sexes brought about by both natural and nurtured factors over a significant period are real, and that's not an issue. In fact, that's an asset. Stop deluding yourselves. Great answers from level-headed people untinged by zealotry.
This is kind of a misunderstanding. Female lions hunt smaller prey like Zebras and Wildabeasts, but male lion usually gelp out with water buffalo and giraffes. Also male lions are not actually lazy at all. Male lions will walk hundreds of kilometers a day to keep their cubs and territory safe. They throw themselves at packs of predators and join in hunting when they can. They are also forced out of their original pride and need to constantly defeat cahllenging males. Male lions actually have far tougher in the wild than females.
It's sad how in the American interview people could say good things about women, but held their tongue when mentioning men's strengths because they're afraid of being called sexist. . I believe there's power in words, especially if it's repeated many times. So I worry one day American men begin to actually believe that there is nothing good in being born a man...eventhough it's not true. Both genders should be proud of what they can do, or what people believe they can do, even if sometimes it sounded stereotypical. Because it could be a form of motivation to keep someone going.
well just wait till you have your first woman as president, let's see how worthy a man life at that time, even with Trump as president, your men already afraid of talking back to women....
I say the ability for men to be more likely to stay focused and motivated is definitely true in the States. But this is probably true across the board. A main reason being that men are under pressure to be successful to attract a mate and sustain a family, whereas women do not have that pressure. This is the norm almost everywhere. A man who is a master is regarded as attractive and glorious, but a women who is as focused isn’t necessarily attractive to a male. An average woman would dig a male CEO, but would an average man dig a female CEO? It’s just weird and challenges the basic cultural norms our ancestors have had for hundreds of thousands of years.
I believe the answer to your last question is "yes". Men have been shown to not really care about social status or power, "up" or "down", when selecting a mate. Women, on the other hand, place more importance on a man having high social status or powerful in some way.
XBebopo I accept that the average guy might not care as much about his partners status. But would the average male have an easy time getting with a female who is substantially stronger than him (financially/mentally/etc.)? Based on the info you’ve provided it would seem so. So, yeah I can see an average guy digging a female CEO. However, the likelihood of an average guy maintaining a relationship with one is slim in my opinion. Therefore if a man wants to date a girl out of his league, he must work to get to her level. Women, on the other hand, don’t have the same pressure to move up because of the same reason as stated before. Men tend to place less emphasis on their partners status.
It's like neuroscience 101 all over again. Here are answers backed by science. Women are better at: 1. Listening to/Participating in more than one conversation 2. Reading other people's emotions 3. Hearing higher pitches Men are better at: 1. Things that require physical strength 2. Spacial thinking 3. Hearing lower pitches
I am sure that the fact about hearing higher or lower pitches is wrong. Because once a human grows older he/she is naturally unable to hear many high pitched wavelenghts. Younger people hear more high pitches whereas older people only the lower ones. And every animal/human(male/female) is able to distinct a high pitch sound as equally good because it resembles the sound of a babies cry.
Women also have better color vision, while men have better night vision, although that's a purely physiological difference to do with the proportion of rod and cone cells in the retina.
I'm so glad that Japan is still a normal society, and hasn't been confused with all this gender theory. Just honest kind people making observations, there's no thought in their mind about being called bigots or oppressors or evil. It feels like a simpler time
@OkayGotIt huh western europe is 90% based tbh. It’s just that the media gives attention to the 10% woke leftists. Most people know what’s up and don’t plan to change. England is way better than America at accepting facts
7:36 I think that is a healthy attitude, but *much* more importantly, each person has their own things they are good at, and to hold him or her against the standard of gender is a hindrance on not only that person, but the concept of gender as a whole.
Men tend to be better at lifting heavy things up, more willing to take risk; because of that you see more men in higher paid jobs and politics, and think more technically and scientifically. Women tend to be better at emotional intelligence, going for more secured jobs because they reluctant to take risk and communication. Of course there men and women willing to break the mould, men can be trained to become better at emotional intelligence and women can get used to taking risk! 🙂 It’s really an open ended question 🙂
Which makes me think if it as something to do with the design of the maps themselves. Yeah, on average, men have more spatial navigation capabilities (probably due to its usefulness while hunting and battling), but I wonder how would maps look like if they were originally created by women (who have better location memory). Probably it would have more colors for the different types of locations and accuracy would not be an important factor. Think, for example, about how the maps in shopping centers have simplified layouts and put more emphasis on the types of shops.
Dunno. All women I know can perfectly handle maps. I wonder whether it is an outdated stereotype or a matter of nurture because navigation used to be a male domain and women didn't get involved with it and therefore had less practice in using maps. Then, when they tried, they obviously failed based on their lack of experience and the stereotype of women being bad at reading maps formed. Now, having heard the rumor women just shy away from even trying...? Like a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't think spatial perception plays a role here. I mean, it's "spatial" as in "3D" but a map is only 2D.
@@alephnulI good to know. I still wonder though whether culture is relevant to this observation. I come from a country where I haven't even heard about that stereotype. But geography was taught thoroughly and that included different types of maps.
@@SystemBD I think its a lot more simple than that. I think that to men, on average, a map looks appealing/interesting. If something looks appealing to someone, not just men but women also, someone is more likely to look it up more.
@@alephnulI It can be also case of self fulfilling prophesy. If you are in culture where the stereotype exists, you may be told you are bad at reading maps and so you are. If someone told me there is no way in hell I can jump over this gap, I'm way more likely to fail at it than if I thought I should be able to do it. Regardless, we have this stereotype and females in our family are very bad with maps :)
In my experience, women have been more patient and sympathetic to others. They're caring, even if they don't always express it. Men may be single minded but when they put something on that mind then they'll stop at nothing to get it done. They're tolerant and honest in the heart. There are more obvious examples such as physical strength and natural flexibility but I wanted to touch on more.... sentimental traits
True women are better to do many things at one time but not perfectly just they can like 5/6 thing at one time but men can focus on one thing and do it perfectly
I think that maybe this is one of the reason women (me tough) feel anxious on our carrer path choice and of course there is the other aspect of women bearing and nurturing a child that seems to be more of a priority than working or leading a company If we have the support of the father that does it already
@ThriftSewSteal I think social factors are pretty clear, there, we've got to be competent at a lot of things but there are few areas we'd expect to be in the top of one field or specialty, where it's probably fair to say men tend to be more *competitive.* (Which wouldn't be perceived well for us if we were, or were going around being 'I'm going to be Number One,' .....Which can bring out good things and it can bring out bad things.
It's always important for both men and women to realize that one is better at certain things than the other and vice versa and not just on a biological level but also personal as well. After all men and women are made to compliment each other. where one is lacking, the other makes up for it! its a relationship after all.
@@lucija9197 I do understand trans people, because you can be born with high level of estrogen, and lower level of testosterone (i bought DNA test and that is the case for me), and i do understand lesbian women, because it's hard to deny that there are more angry/unmannered/ugly men than women, and they could have experienced something bad related to men. but i do not understand gay men, and i think that is either 1. psychical difference caused by mutation, which destroys reproductive instinct, or 2. nurture, growing up in only men groups, or getting often embarrassed/attacked by women. after all i think this all comes down to nurture in most cases, but trans people are born like that. thought 40% suicide rate of trans people shows that they often get disappointed of their new appearance and feelings after hormone replacement therapy. i don't think that will ever be solved, and i don't think trans rights protests work either. i only want better for them, but i don't think that is really possible at least currently.
aside from physical differences, men and women wouldn't be all that different if they weren't raised with entirely different expectations and societal limitations preventing them from pursuing careers and getting hobbies 'typical' for the other gender. in an ideal society everyone would do what they want and can without facing judgement (or actual restrictive laws) for it. it wouldn't have perfect 50/50 split gender ratio in every profession, but most careers wouldn't be considered a typically male or female job as they are now, i think. it's fair to give people a chance at trying something without them growing up not even considering a certain option they could've enjoyed, because these are things for men, and these are things for women, and taking a different route would put extra obstacles in your path (i'm talking about things like certain colleges weeding out female applicants or a man not going into a profession related to makeup and such because appearing feminine would be dangerous in his background, etc, not 'physical strength'). this hysteria and overreactions over the topic of gender equality in the west will inevitably balance itself out. given america's history, i understand why every social movement gets so distorted and exaggerated tbh. it's not pleasant to live through, but i don't see another scenario for positive change in such environment, so... just gotta be patient and make sure you personally keep your head cool and don't let your biases cloud your vision too much. everything people do happens for a reason, an understanding the other side's motives even you don't agree with it helps a whole lot and makes your own views stronger.
To be fair tough that guy in new york had an agenda, exposing the people he interviewed as hypocrites. So I imagine he excluded the people who came up with answers for men, because it didnt fit his theme and the point he was trying to make.
Perhaps, but that only worked because he had footage of the same people reeling off things they could think of for women, but drawing a blank with men. His agenda to expose them as hypocrites wouldn't have worked had they not been so readily absurd.
I believe it isn't simply based on men vs women, it is mainly based on the cultural norms of the society in which he/she live. Also, some men are feminine and some women are masculine. 今こそ日本で男女平等とか騒がれてますけど、10年前にアメリカ/カナダから日本に帰国したばかりの時、そんな話をしたら周りの人に批判されましたからね。
The West has jumped the shark. Imagine the internal gymnastics you'd have to do to not immediately think of the things that men dominate: medicine, every sport, strength, tech, philosophy, etc. Engineering departments are trying to lure women like crazy and they can't get them to join the field because *they don't want to be engineers* for the most part. Women are amazing at plenty of things, and should have absolute equality of opportunity. But to think that women and men are the same completely ignores the rigid selection pressures under which we evolved. What a surprise that the human that carried the baby for nine months is more selective of mates and nurturing than the one who had very little responsibility towards the child or mother. How odd that the ones who raised children were more social and less aggressive than the ones who had to hunt and fight for the right to pass on their genes. The science is pretty rigorous: there are innate differences. But the West thinks that because social constructionism sounds more egalitarian that it is more truthful. The virtue signalling is like tinnitus to me now.
What I found interesting about this wasn't so much the content of the answers, as the impression of conformity or independence in the way Americans and Japanese act. It is often thought that Japanese are more conformist than western cultures, but Americans are conformist in a different way. They like to 'appear' to have independence of thought but don't necessarily give answers that are not what society sanctions-it is very difficult for someone in North American culture to say in public that men might be better at something because they're taught from an early age that this is the wrong thing to think. In Japan, it is preferable to appear to be normal or confirm, but answers still show a degree of independence of thought. It is not so much that one country appears to have greater conformity or independence, but rather that they both have these features equally, but they are expressed in different ways. I think in both places, it is often difficult for people to truly give their honest opinion in public.
I used to watch “Find Your Love in Japan” until he started spreading a very different opinion about foreigners and lots of other controversial issues. I am so glad I found your channel I love the content and I’m learning more about the culture as I learn Japanese at my college! Love your videos!
I feel that the correct way to go about seeing differences is that depending on your physiology (regardless of sex) one will have different advantages. So, in the context of "men vs women" men, on a general level, have the advantage of being taller, haveing more muscle, being more dextrous etc. However, these characteristics are further dependent on the individual, thus saying "men are better than women at X" is a kind of moot point to make. Yes some averages of groups of people have physiological and mental advantages compared to others, but the main point to be made is comparing each individual to another. For example: "men are faster than women." is a true statement in the context of averages. However, there's still a large number of women that could outrun a large percentage of men. So, it's not a very telling statement to make if you're not clarifying the context of it being "on average". Basically, it's fine to say "men/women are better at X generally" but to let that even remotely affect your view on an individual's capabilities before having evidence of them is stupid and more importantly, spreads dangerous ideas about being prejudice towards specific groups of people. That's the point most "Feminists" and "SJWs" make. Not "everyone is 100% equal mentally and physically and no one can say otherwise."
I think the guy that first responded to the "why men don't say where they think they are better than women", was spot on. In a lot of places even if you were speaking generally... You might get pointed out as a sexist. Even if it was just a harmless conversation. But to say men focus on one thing to mastery... could be somewhat true. But putting that question to myself (I am by no means a master), but I focus on art, music, mechanics, electrical, and cooking. But I do look at them as an art, and not so much as labor type things. Interesting petspective.
I wonder whether one could then see women as masters of cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry etc. You don't want to eat bad food, you don't want have your furniture destroyed because someone used the wrong cleaner on it, you don't want your white clothes to turn grey-ish, and you want to have your shirts to be ironed properly, right? Those are also things to master just like mastering carpentry, right? It's just that those mastered skills are seen as less valuable than carpentry. So are really only men aiming for mastery or do we just keep missing women's mastery aspirations...? 🤔
I guess the reason they have more good things to say about the opposite sex is cuz they’ve lived a whole life being whatever gender they are and they are really only making assumptions about the opposite, since they really can’t know for sure. I guess it’s just that people usually tend to make better assumptions about anything that isn’t themselves cuz 1 it isn’t wrong to hope that there are better things in the world or 2 just general attraction to the opposite gender, so we just hopelessly assume the the opposite gender (or actually any gender we’re attracted to cuz this is a matter of attraction) will fill in our gaps (as in be better at things we are bad at)
Hey Yuta, regarding your question at the end of the video, I think the idea that women are multitaskers while men tend toward mastery is wide-spread. It certainly is in Australia. Although, as with anything else, it's also a crude generalisation because there are many who stray from these stereotypes, and it's possible to deliberately train yourself to be the other way if your situation demands it, which I think has some implications for why things might be this way in the first place.
I think the comments about women being able to do many things quite well, and men being able to do just a few things extremely well was surprising. I've read this sort of thing a lot in western articles about "male vs female brain", so I find it interesting that this idea is present in Japan, too. It really makes me think about how this sort of mixture of science and folk wisdom spreads to different places.
Some nice casual questions. "Improve" has already a positive connotation to it. They say "don't ask a question you don't already know the answer to", meaning you can phrase a question a certain way to provoke a certain answer.
Great video. And a contrast to the rot we saw in NY. To answer your last question, I actually think men have broader interests in general, but it does not show until men have become mature, which is probably around the age of 26 now days. I am middle aged, and every man I know (friends with at least) have numerous hobbies. I will include my closest friends (7). All of us are now studying. We all have post graduate studies backing us up and we are now continuing to study while working full time. We all pursue hobbies such as: photography, film making, wood work, programming, language learning, physical fitness, playing musical instruments and the list goes on. When I see what adult women discuss around hobbies, they include movies and shopping, both tasks that are not hobbies because you cannot get better at them. In the work place (i am a teacher in a position which is dominated by women (85% female)), women gossip more and cause issues, they tend to look favourably upon students who have a gold standard of behaviour and they grade with that in mind. Actually, its time I made a RUclips video about this and uploaded what I and many students see at school. Thanks again.
Exactly. Everyone knows women are more emotional. Level headed means more logical and rational, the opposite of emotional. 50% or women aren't on antidepressants because they are level headed.
"Do men need to specialize and women need to think broader?" More so than no, imo. However, I do think variety is always best. That way men can understand women better, and women can understand men better. Understanding each other is the best way to go about it, even though in the end, they'll still go back to their roots. Men will still like specializing more, and women would still rather stabilize. Just that with understanding, there won't be very much complaints about the other side.
"I think women are almost the same" says the man who works with women while studying to be a nurse. I think he learned a lot in his studies :) (When it comes to leadership and "bringing people together"; not in things like strength that is obvious, and I'm sure other things mentioned as we speak in generalities)
It's outdated. In Japan, men are promoted to top positions eventhough on average they don't put in as much work and effort as women. You see a lot of women in the work force, but they rarely get to the decision-making positions. They are deemed incompetent because they are women, not worth the investment because they won't be able to work as much if they have a family. That is extremely sexist, the constant assignment of women in the family role never even escapes the workplace, or any spaces really.
@@chromeuserisme3551 biology isn't outdated. 75 years of modernity doesn't get rid of a million years of evolution. That is why everything is falling apart and will crash soon. I'm American, I lived in Japan for 5 years. I still have Japanese and American friends that live there. I think Japanese women get treated bad in most work places. And sometimes are treated inferior in married home life. To make any kind of economic progress with more women entering the work force, this must end. Japan barely has anything to offer the world of the 21st century. Cars is about all, for now. Electronics used to be a staple in the japanese economy. @@SobriusVigilans I'm living in Germany in a city of 300k people, in an area with a lot of refugees. Trust me, a lot of the things you hear about refugees on TV is fearmongering. They tell you that crime rates increased, but they don't tell you which crime it is that made the crime rates increase. For Germany it's mostly pretending to be someone who you are not (false identity. Popular because Syrians have a chance to stay and others not so everyone pretends to be a Syrian). According to german law that's a crime and therefore it appears in the statistics. Another popular one is leaving the area you were assigned to. According to german law refugees are not allowed to move around freely. They have to stay in the administrative sector they were assigned to. So if a refugee visits a relative who lives in a different sector they commit a crime. Those are the refugee crimes committed the most in Germany. I noticed a while ago, women, tend to be more adapt with language , and at getting free drinks. then i realized why. its all about full term gestation. men not having that time restriction , have evolved to diversify often, and as quickly as possible. women on the other hand will have to commit those 7 months, if not for their entire lives (as so should the man responsible), but this does two things, maybe 3 or 4. (at least in Americas current society) 1. makes many males of capable age, and upwards, look at pretty much any female he encounters as a consideration and subconsciously leads them to flirting, more often than they should. (like consider the amount of adult clubs for men versus how many for women, exist.) 2. so, females, often starting at a young age, deal with much more social interaction because of this natural attraction balance. They listen to their verbal advances, develope the language and social skills as they also learn the stakes and begin to understand that they, are the ones that hold the incentive and ability to drive a mans actions. 3. so, why bother working? let the men do it to impress. manage a team. multitask. lead them all. and so this leads us to the men. they either 1. understand this and either A: be open, and honest about it, and stop acting like an animal. or B: feel intimidated by it, or dumb that they've wasted all this time. and they now feel they're useless. this fear leads to them to believe it even more. 2. don't understand this yet still persist and think their the best (they're oblivious) so, this is why we see so many people say women are more capable and more cerebral . ALL the women say it... plus, what? 3/4s of the men say it, or lie (poorly against it). that leads us with only a fraction of the total, that understand the potential men have , and their limitations, and are honest enough to overcome them. Women wholy deserve their ability , they worked for it and most men, are good at working for the women that influence them. but then again... 7 billion and counting. if it wasn't for this drive we have , this balance of influence, we wouldn't be this successful as a species. and if guys just stopped thinking with their penis they might realize they have a brain too (7 billion...... i think its time to SLOW THE **** DOWN GUYS)
Nature vs Nurture, my answer Nature reinforced by Nurture. It's a bit of both and to easy to dismiss it was one or the other. Men are inclined towards this or that and Women are inclined towards this or that and we're reinforced with those notions throughout our lives. Although, as a man living his entire life in the USA, I have no idea why they couldn't respond to what men are better at. Clearly physical labor dependent jobs are an easy cop out.
is it more nature since men take the greater risk while women safe guard future men go out while women just stay the times have change and environment but who usually take care of children now most men or women if it women it nature if it men it nurture
i'm one to say that we nurture because of nature, what are ancestors were like really tells us a lot about who we are. women are better at multitasking because of natural motherhood instincts, and can see a wider range of color than men, because they were the gatherers. men have better spacial awareness and mathematical capabilities this comes from being a hunter, as we need both skills to conduct a proper hunt. this also attributes to comrade for comrade relations. i have no idea where the women got the idea that men are more likely to be two-faced, it seems quite opposite to me, especially how she admitted to it.
@@makeshift307 science says though that nobody is good at multitasking. It's a myth. Science also says that intra group differences are bigger than inter group differences. So man A differs more from man B than the average man does from the average woman. Sure we could name male strength as something that men are better at but I feel the question was rather about skill. And having a body that is just naturally physically stronger is not a skill but just anatomy. If we go the anatomy route then we'd have to say that women are better at giving birth than men. That's a ridiculous comparison isn't it? And physical strength falls in this very same anatomy category as does giving birth. If I were to name male skills I'd say, being funny is a strength. Science says that men get more laughs for their jokes than women. Societal expectations might play a role though (you're kinda expected to laugh at those old geezer's jokes and humor is also highly requested in dating at least in the West). I'd also name "being silly/laid back". It's seems to be more acceptable for men to run around even if they are already adults. It's more acceptable for men to fart in public and be open about it while women are expected to be controlled in public. Goes to the point that women are embarrassed if some other woman hears them peeing (see the phenomenon of otohime in Japan). So the male skill of being more laid back seems to be the result of nurture not nature. There's also the man-child but not the woman-child that might fall in the laid-back category. Men seem to be be more in control of a situation too (composure is the English word...?). Though I've read a lot complaints from men about that. They are expected to be in control even if they feel insecure and such but they are not allowed to show it. Still, as long as you don't question that appearance it looks like a strength.
@@IsleNaK: everything is biological, psychology is still a part biology, if we look at all the things you listed, then it becomes quite obvious that our ancestors did the same thing in order to procreate, men who are considered funny are considered more attractive and so are men who are calm and collected. also, science says that no one is great at multitasking, but women usually score higher than men in multitasking tests, thus are better. you seem to view men in a dim light, which is ridicules, men aren't aloud to run around lest they hear their wives complain to them the rest of the night and some the next day. men who aren't in control are beta, men who are are alpha. if we look at our cousins on the other branch of greater apes, we see similar things to our society(which if one is to argue that society nurtures many of these actions as if it were it's own entity rather than a collective of humans, one could not explain why apes act the way they do, when there is no language to facilitate such actions), alphas are often the ones who are able to better control the others through there strength and guide their troop, while females are the nurturers of the next generation. lastly devaluing strength is completely unfair, if you look, being naturally stronger is a pro, being able to give birth is a pro. everything from our strength, to our mental power, to the way and why we think, is all biology. and if you are to argue otherwise, i as someone who takes psychology, know good and well we study anatomy, because our anatomy effects the way we think. there is a difference in men and women, that's a fact, and the way we act is because we are different, the way we think is because we are different. a whole lot of people think that being different is a bad thing, but in the end it's what makes us who we are.
@@makeshift307 I'm talking about skills. Things that don't come naturally but are learned. Having a better physical onset in strength is not something that men need to train for. Cooking a tasty meal though requires skill. You're not born with it.
I believe that the answers were very cultural as well. I also believe that the New York residents were definitely trying to not be sexist like you said. I guess it would be based on the person, because if you ask certain people - I - know, the list would be very different and probably longer on either side (based on the gender of the interviewee.)
That was interesting!! Regarding speaking Japanese! I’ve been studying so hard for two months and it’s officially becoming more difficult. I’m worried that because I have no one to speak to, I’m slipping up. BUT I’m also kind of shy about the idea of practicing out loud with someone I don’t know. And when I go on HelloTalk everyone just wants to learn English. 😫 What do I do???
Hey Krissy! I'm studying for one year now and had the same doubts you have. Two methods that are helping me a lot is to read out loud and try to mimic people speaking. Try to find a media you like, like japanese vlogs, animes, j-dramas, and just repeat everything they say. Also, there are some discord channels to japanese learners and they do voice calls to practice. The servers are really good way to practice reading and writing too, the only problem would be vocabulary. Japanese gets a lot easier after learning the basic grammar and kanjis. You will see the basic grammar and kanji everywhere and suddenly things will be really fun! One day you will find yourself speaking with the same pattern japanese people use, and will sound natural. Maybe you won't understand everything, but will become a second nature and just feel right. Don't give up!
7:11 I'm glad you picked up on this. American media is heavily focused on the idea of equality, yet Americans still treat both men and women with archaic stereotypes (eg women are always victims and need special care over men, but the message promoted in media is that women can do anything).
Yeah, a female professional weightlifter will be stronger than a normal male non-weightlifter, but a male weightlifter will be stronger than his female counterpart. This much is nature, the nurture part is the training where the female weightlifter becomes stronger than the normal/average male.
The only thing I would agree and disagree with was the mastery thing. Maybe I just interpreted it wrong but I think men and women can be masters at different things. I had a history teacher that told me that men tend to be better at multiple choice questions and women are better at essay questions. Men are also engineers and more women become nurses. And on an individual level, everyone has a different talent or interest that can be mastered with practice. Everything else I pretty much agreed on.
I think it all boils down to culture and how that's impacted society from ways past. Japan has always had what most other civilizations and "modern" countries have had with regard to gender equality. The status in the states is currently that you cannot say men do anything better than women-however it is perfectly OK to say women are better than men, as we saw in the video. I think Japan maintains certain inequalities for both sides on different subjects. It's definitely not as it was before. The US also had that same mindset and it's only until recently when that started changing. Now you see everyone pushing a pro-women agenda because it's the big issue now. If you look at entertainment from the 50s and 60s, you'll find the same "women are this way" and "men are this way" mindset---which is what we saw from the guys and gals in this video. The point is, Japan and the US have an almost identical perception of what women & men can do but the difference is that the states is being overwhelmed by a leftist agenda that's flown way past its initial objective. The reason it's such a hot debate is because people apparently don't believe in science and or exemptions. For the record, I think women can do the _same_ things men can do. There are some inherent things men can do that women may generally not be able to do (as well) but the same goes for women. If men weren't good at multi-tasking, they wouldn't be managers and the like. That outdated perception doesn't apply and it never did. Biologically, men usually maintain more physical prowess than women thanks to testosterone but I assure you I know many women who can beat me up regardless of that. Honestly, aside from biological discrepancies, women and men are the same. Any psychological, mental, and aptitude differences are purely person-to-person. That is to say, it's a nurture type of thing if someone is "focused" or "varied in interest". The people who influence them as well as their inherent behaviors will determine what they turn out doing. Let's also not forget the way society sets all this up via its "standards" and expectations. *Tl;DR:* Really, it's all dependent on the person.
I think the idea of discrimination in this video didnt come up until it was mentioned (7:15). I think the same wasnt an issue until it was spoken of that way today. The issues have been fixed (i live in lower class, women have actually always made more than me) but nobody wants to move on. A bias i have: women dont let go of grudges.
The problem is in the west people think that being equal means being exactly the same, but this is dishonest. A car and a motorcycle are equally good, but one does certain things better than the other. That doesn't mean if you recognize the advantages of one you hate the other. Being equal just means being fair, and to do so you have to accept both the positives and negatives. Anyway, equality and feminism is just a rabbit hole, and one that always seems to get brought up. Men and women are different, on average we like different things and view the world slightly differently, but this doesn't make one "better" in the grand scheme of things, just different.
Yuta, The question is loaded. The answer is there isn't any real difference, it's all in how you use the human brain you were born with. We're all the same until we make ourselves different. Fortunately we do, and life is rarely boring. Even with differences we can find common ground if we want to. The West is preoccupied in valuating worth based on identity and not personal effort. Tribal gender war in North America and the West has made it difficult to think outside that box to the point men as a group have no identifiable use. Of course that's all wrong because aside from hormones, we all can think and learn to understand each other. Some feel they can gain social advantage by discounting others. We should know better but a failure to educate allows this cognitive flaw to continue. Looks like Japan has that figured out. Btw, the girl on my left in front of the Fiat is super cute. Thanks for sharing her presence :)
Men and women definitely differ due to culture, but there are some things that are necessarily cultural universals due to the laws of nature. For example, every culture treats pregnant women differently from non-pregnant women for obvious reasons. So even when you find that a difference is due to culture, it is possible and even likely that the ultimate cause is something about human nature.

The only SURE thing that men are better is usually men are taller and stronger. Girls can be more agile but A LOT of girls are "not interested" in developing their physical advantages. Other things.. it really depends on ones interest.
Of course they said much more, cause there is more reason in Japan than in USA. These were thought out opinions from open minded people. Not from persons that are full with issues and hate toward males. p.s. Yuta, how 'bout you add some exit stunt? For ending the video I mean. Because you jump in at the beginning, it's logical that you would jump out or smthng at the end. p.s. doesn't yawarakai mean soft, and not supple? Keep up the good work though.
This shows that men and women are different. But this difference should be viewed as complementary. This complementariness is very useful in family life caring and bringing up children. Thus men has a share in the family household, not just to bring in money.
The Men having more precise interests and Women having broader interests is not a "cultural" thing it is a psychological thing. In the US it is the same way, when you ask Americans in private they say the same as the people in the video. In Europe it's the same, In Latin America it is the same and in Africa as well. These places have very different culture yet they all say the same thing.
Sources...? Maybe women are just not allowed to focus on only one thing because they have to take care of that baby, they have to do those chores and they have to care for the elderly...? Leaves very little time for themselves
@@IsleNaK That is exactly my point. That is true in every culture. The Men go to work and the Women take care of everyone who can't work. It's still kinda true to this day, there's more Male bosses and Female nurses and teachers. The nurture bits are just parenting techniques passed down from generation to generation to teach the next one how to do the nature part better.
Based only on my preconceptions, and limited knowledge of Japan. I think japanese retain links to strong cultural traditions which assign male/female roles and acceptable behaviour and an adherance to honour.I wonder if the hierachy in the japanese family unit is still strong. In the UK the nuclear family unit has broken down, and the freedom of 'youth culture' is very immediate and has resulted in the breaking of traditonal family bonds. In the UK, I think the 'men are better at, women are better at' question is a flux where changes in society, the nature of work and expectations (particularly for women) have reduced referance to traditional roles.
There's definitely differences between men and women, and those differences are the reason society works. That first guy said it right. A society that takes advantage of these differences instead of ignoring them would be the true definition of equality.
That video would have gone completely differently had it not been shot in New York. In any rural area in the US there would have been a more objective breakdown of the differences and where strengths lay. Liberal America is very anti male, anti previously established cultural conventions and generally not fair towards men. In a lot of America no one would hesitate to talk about the strengths of men, but where this was shot no one wanted to be on camera saying there was anything in the world a man was better at than a woman. It is just the unhealthy cultural climate of some parts of the country at this point and the fear a lot of people have of being associated with any sort of thing that can be said to be discriminatory.
Are there any Women Togishi? I think I know that answer. We're both valuable, without both we wouldn't be here asking the questions. Thank you Yuta. Nice to see rational people for a change from what we see in the US at times.
In Saudi Arabia we respect the woman.. but Thay not respect to us
Lived in Hungary for most of my younger years. I think it's universally true that men are better at compartmentalizing. Generally speaking, if a man has a problem with someone, that problem is what has to be addressed. If a woman has a problem with someone, that entire relationship has to be addressed.

I definitely think that people were just scared of being called sexist in the US for saying men are better at some things and I think that’s really bad
I’m female so before any angry feminists attack me assuming I’m a man, I’m a woman who thinks it’s not equal if men aren’t allowed to say things but women are. That’s called sexism. Sexism against men. Women are naturally better at some things, men are naturally better at some things due to genetics and nature and how they’re brought up etc. It’s not wrong to say that.
If we can say things that women are better at, we should also be okay to say which things men are better at.
Where the heck do reside, for such an honest unbias answer.
The fact that the American women couldn't say one good thing about men, without whom there would be no modern society, is beyond me
I think I've really learned to multi task from my mom.
Nailed it.

I believe there's power in words, especially if it's repeated many times. So I worry one day American men begin to actually believe that there is nothing good in being born a man...eventhough it's not true.

Yes yes yes THANK YOU for this comment

Women are better at:
1. Listening to/Participating in more than one conversation
2. Reading other people's emotions
3. Hearing higher pitches
Men are better at:
1. Things that require physical strength
2. Spacial thinking
3. Hearing lower pitches
Can you refer a source to me? I want to read the paper! thanks!
yeah source please...
Sources for that? I don't believe in aptitude differences between sexes but biological ones can actually be proven.
Women also have better color vision, while men have better night vision, although that's a purely physiological difference to do with the proportion of rod and cone cells in the retina.

It’s really an open ended question 🙂
Because biological speaking women and men are different...but feminist SJW hates this...
I believe the term for that is *Sexual Dimorphism*. Oh yes, the SJW would argue with any kind of facts!
Laughed hard on "They can read maps" hahah
Thought women were more flexible?
In New York:
"Is there anything that men are better at doing than women?"
*Attempts to answer*
*Feels a thousand feminist stares*
I think men tends to be a master of things and woman being able to do many.
That makes sense if you consider the different brain structures of men and women.
True women are better to do many things at one time but not perfectly just they can like 5/6 thing at one time but men can focus on one thing and do it perfectly
There's actually a lot of Truth to that
I think that maybe this is one of the reason women (me tough) feel anxious on our carrer path choice and of course there is the other aspect of women bearing and nurturing a child that seems to be more of a priority than working or leading a company If we have the support of the father that does it already
After all men and women are made to compliment each other. where one is lacking, the other makes up for it! its a relationship after all.
i agree but the last part about its a relationship after all i disagree. Because LGBT people do exist so yeah
It seems like Japanese people have more reasonable logic
The head to body ratio is pretty large compared to Europe and America so it makes sense.
The propaganda they believe isn't the same as America's. In America you're semester for stating the fact that men are better at some things than women
Japanese MEN.Women don't understand "reasonable logic".
7:35 This dude absolutely nails it.
Good job. very interesting to see the cultural variance to the same questions, keep it up!

3:47 yeah that is a beautiful little Fiat over there! Fits the streets of japan so nicely too
how different would it have been if a woman had asked the question?
Not in Japan, tho.
That was amazing!
I really like that it's not taboo to realize that the genders complement each other.
Ahhh! I love the little Fiat 500 behind two of the women you interviewed.
I guess the reason they have more good things to say about the opposite sex is cuz they’ve lived a whole life being whatever gender they are and they are really only making assumptions about the opposite, since they really can’t know for sure. I guess it’s just that people usually tend to make better assumptions about anything that isn’t themselves cuz 1 it isn’t wrong to hope that there are better things in the world or 2 just general attraction to the opposite gender, so we just hopelessly assume the the opposite gender (or actually any gender we’re attracted to cuz this is a matter of attraction) will fill in our gaps (as in be better at things we are bad at)
Japan looks so chill
American was like that too before diversity.
Great video my man!
9:02. When they say "America": perfect synchronization...!!! 😲 🙂 👍
Wow, those are some good points made by those random people.
At least the Japanese don't have a debate on which sex is superior or how many genders are there
Some nice casual questions.
With me and my personal experiences i have found that men tend to be more level-headed
Exactly. Everyone knows women are more emotional. Level headed means more logical and rational, the opposite of emotional. 50% or women aren't on antidepressants because they are level headed.
This is not a normal video, its a scientific research.
Very good video Yuta, this was a useful insight.

"Do men need to specialize and women need to think broader?"
More so than no, imo.

The "men hunt, women nest" is a widely popular theory applied to social dynamics in Japan. I have seen it in forums and even books quite many times.
@@chromeuserisme3551 Maybe it's because the Men do more Quality work, where women do Quantity

Now there's so much global competition, even Sony is going down the drain. BUT I don't think women should have superiority of right in court, like divorse and family court in USA.

It's not rape ;)

Sorry for being off-topic, but when the 2 girls are speaking I see in the back a green car, is an old FIAT 500? Is it common in Japan?
Unfortunately, no you won't see much old cars in Japan (before the 90's) because unlike in the West, the older your car is, the higher your annual tax becomes. So you gotta be rich (or enthusiast) to own an old car in Japan.
Thereafter, the little fiat being only 500cc -smaller than Kei-cars, that have alleviated taxes-(Japan's taxes on cars is based primarly on displacement) maybe the owner doesn't pay much....
It doesn't matter what group is better than another "on average" unless you want to segregate people and make them compete against each other. Otherwise, every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses; and is either better at or not better at something then some other arbitrary individual. No one is equal to anyone else! (Why do men and women choose to pit themselves against each other, it's disgusting)
great channel. love your upfront social interactions.
my opinion is.....men and women are equally capable, given the opportunity. (at least in Americas current society)
1. makes many males of capable age, and upwards, look at pretty much any female he encounters as a consideration and subconsciously leads them to flirting, more often than they should. (like consider the amount of adult clubs for men versus how many for women, exist.)
2. so, females, often starting at a young age, deal with much more social interaction because of this natural attraction balance. They listen to their verbal advances, develope the language and social skills as they also learn the stakes and begin to understand that they, are the ones that hold the incentive and ability to drive a mans actions.
3. so, why bother working? let the men do it to impress. manage a team. multitask. lead them all.
and so this leads us to the men. they either
1. understand this and either A: be open, and honest about it, and stop acting like an animal. or B: feel intimidated by it, or dumb that they've wasted all this time. and they now feel they're useless. this fear leads to them to believe it even more.
2. don't understand this yet still persist and think their the best (they're oblivious)
so, this is why we see so many people say women are more capable and more cerebral . ALL the women say it... plus, what? 3/4s of the men say it, or lie (poorly against it).
that leads us with only a fraction of the total, that understand the potential men have , and their limitations, and are honest enough to overcome them.
Women wholy deserve their ability , they worked for it
and most men, are good at working for the women that influence them.
but then again... 7 billion and counting. if it wasn't for this drive we have , this balance of influence, we wouldn't be this successful as a species.
and if guys just stopped thinking with their penis
they might realize they have a brain too
(7 billion...... i think its time to SLOW THE **** DOWN GUYS)
Very inspiring. Thank you!

What do I do???

They are more emotionally equipped than men are. They are more sympathetic, compassionate and more. At least thats how I feel.
7:11 I'm glad you picked up on this. American media is heavily focused on the idea of equality, yet Americans still treat both men and women with archaic stereotypes (eg women are always victims and need special care over men, but the message promoted in media is that women can do anything).
Ask feminism SJW about that
Men are better at anything physical it's as easy as that
I feel as though adding the word "generally" would greatly help your case.
@@rowand5380 yea i was talking generally for sure sorry for not making that clear
They are not better at physically giving birth to a baby or breastfeedimg xD. Also the male center of gravity might fail them here and there.
Yeah, a female professional weightlifter will be stronger than a normal male non-weightlifter, but a male weightlifter will be stronger than his female counterpart. This much is nature, the nurture part is the training where the female weightlifter becomes stronger than the normal/average male.
7:35 wisest thing I have heard.
Thank u for making this vid yuta god damn
Good content as always
Interesting indeed.
0:30 LOL!!! She thinks women are better at "making decisions"? Hahahaha! That's a good one!
Yeah, try asking her where she wants to eat or what she is going to wear to dinner.
*Tl;DR:*
Really, it's all dependent on the person.
Can you do a video on all the bad “Engrish” marketing in Japan?
Oh, yes! PLEASE PLEASE
Your english is great
This guy seriously need to fix his roof, he's been falling off of it lol XD
I JUST NOTICED YUTA WEARS DOMINICAN T-SHIRT! #AWESOME!~
Just noticed! Awesome lol
Who's the girl on the right at 2:16? She is stunning!
> Don't look creepy MISSION FAILED
