Your good that’s why have subscribed yeah
Hey Shelby! I find your videos so helpful. I’m learning tap by myself since I always wanted to take tap in my younger years as a dancer! So what is a good way to make sure your sounds flow?
I guess I would say to make sure you relax your ankles when you dance and work on shifting your weight quickly so you can get from step to step without unintentional pauses.
Do you recommend hard soles or split soles for tap shoes? I have split soles but find them hard to control. I think I would prefer hard soles. However, if more advanced tap dancers prefer split soles, than maybe I should continue to train with the split soles.
All advanced tap dancers should wear hard sole shoes... they do not even make split sole tap shoes at a professional level. You are completely right to want to switch!
Shelby Kaufman Ok, thank you. That makes me feel better! I have been struggling in the split soles and find it so much easier to tap in any other shoe that is not split sole. I don’t understand why they would even often split soles for beginners. They are hard to control with precision, have no support, and make it very hard to stay on the balls of your feet.
occasionally i miss a sound on the flaps- what am i doing wrong?
Possibly flexing your ankles instead of relaxing them? Also make sure you are lifting up from your knees and not kicking yourself in the butt :)
It would be so much more helpful to be able to practice along with you from the back (thanks for turning around) but like 20 times through the step slowly speeding up. No one does this in their videos and it’s shocking to me. We, the beginner, don’t get a chance to just get the feel the rhythm in our body seeing it once slowly then twice fast. We generally mess up the first one then it’s over and we try to rewind but it doesn’t allow the beat to grow instead de our body’s and solidify! Please add more practice time in your videos!! 😃 seeing the steps not in time is more confusing for me. Slowly in time makes it easier to learn (for me anyway). Thanks!
The reason I don't tend to put in a ton of practice time is that its a video so people can rewind as often as they want. I don't want to make the videos redundant and longer than necessary. I will try to do it a bit more in the future though, since you asked :)
Nah.... It’s too hard to rewind constantly and get back in place for 1-2 repetitions. It’s hard to find the right spot to rewind too... Just keep going so we can find our groove. :) Start slow, in time, and slowly speed up. That’s how beginners will catch on! 20-30 times. I tried 4 different videos today and nothing had this. It was a lot of over explaining, breaking down the steps really slowly, then one time through the step slow and then super fast once. That’s just not enough for a beginner. 😃 but kudos for showing from behind! Idk why so many dance videos don’t do this!
Anyway, thanks!
@@jocelyn7733 I just started tap a few weeks ago and 100% agree. A slower and longer repetition with a rear view is what a beginner really needs to commit the step to memory. Like 3 mins of the beginner pace of the same step, right?? But I haven't found a video like this yet as well. As of now with the videos I find, I'm doing the step once on each side, and having to awkwardly reach out and click the cursor back to the beginning spot. Glad to hear I'm not the only one :-)
if you are watching this on a computer, do you see the settings cog wheel lower right? click that then select playback speed .75 is good. Done.
@@shelbykaufman you could explain the computer settings in your video. If watching this on a computer, you see the settings cog wheel lower right, click that then select playback speed .75 is good. Done.

ho you is going way too fast
@@mirandasanchez395 since it’s on RUclips you can rewind as much as you want 😁
@ trust i did 🙁
@@mirandasanchez395aww. I am a fast talker… maybe do it at 75 percent? Lol
@@shelbykaufman are you supposed to learn how to do a single and double time step before learning triple? every video i’ve watched has had someone mention certain aspects of those moves and that’s where i get lost because i don’t know them. is it sort of a must?
