You have him pegged 100% accurately. He's a talented coach and has a high degree of professionalism... he can walk into many programs and raise the floor and get it on track.... but he has a ceiling. He will likely not win any national championships, regardless of talent available to him. LSU.. if you stick with Kelly... enjoy the 9 and 10 win seasons... the second-tier bowl wins and top-tier bowl losses. That being said... I'm not sure "we" don't have the same problem with coach Freeman. Difference is... Freeman is still new to head-coaching and I'm not sure what his ceiling is. That being said... I really LIKE coach Freeman more and want him to succeed.
Brian Kelly will take LSU from being a team that wins a championship once every 8 years with mostly mediocre years in between to a consistent 10 win team and will never win a championship. But the next guy will have a good chance to.
'03, and '07 are less than 8 years apart. Played for title in '11. bama got gifted a mulligan that year. Should have been 3 in your 8 year time frame. Could have been 4 in a 16 year timeframe. What does this say about the rest of college football playing nation. LSU still has MORE national TITLES this millennium than any school not named gumps. MORE than uga. MORE than mich. MORE than tOSU. MORE than clemson. MORE than fsu. MORE than tx. MORE than ou. MORE than usc. MORE than oregon. MORE than uf. MORE than aub. MORE than wash. Think I accounted for EVERY school that's won a title. Couple more that were/are close.
Im very glad Brian Kelly’s loss to Florida knocked them out of the playoff race because I’ve always disliked LSU so the satisfaction is full circle. However, as a Notre Dame fan I’ll always appreciate and be thankful Brian Kelly turned Notre Dame back into a winning program. He is ND all time-winningest coach. Thank you coach!
I liked what Brian Kelly was doing at ND until he left for LSU. But I look at the positives. Marcus Freeman has those players buying in more than Brian Kelly ever did. Big games aren't the achilles heal anymore. Marcus came from the program. He focused on defense first. And you can tell he did. That secondary is the most dangerous secondary in the country. They worked on depth at skill positions on defense. Luke Tallisch was a walk-on that Freeman gave a scholarship to. And boy did he flash! Look at Urlacher's kid out there as well! Brian Kelly got some pretty big names, but Marcus is drawing kids in by what is happening on the field. And BK is doing what he always did, consistent mediocrity. Just enough to not get fired but more than enough to hope for next season.
If was Miami in 17 for me. But I remember being so frustrated with that Cinci game. All you gotta do is beat Cinci at home for a playoff bid and you couldn’t get it done. I was like wtf is this.
I mean he did… -push to upgrade facilities. -get Notre Dame to a National Championship game vs a generational Bama team. - get ND to multiple playoff appearances. Lost to a generational Clemson team as UNDERDOGS. -Lost to a generational Bama team & Heisman trophy freak Davante Smith as UNDERDOGS. He lost all 3 as a significant Vegas UNDERDOG & all to National Champions. Let’s not forget he also fought LSU for current Head Coach Marcus Freeman who was the hottest DC on the market at the time…(watch the Marcus Freeman Chris Zorich interview) Marcus breaks down how Kelly recruited him. Brian Kelly played a vital role & should be appreciated for it.
Ya not to mention that ND hasn’t done anything better without him yet, for all the hate ND fans r giving him u would think Freeman has a natty already, turns out he’s also lost all his big games & has multiple G5 losses lol
If we hired a better coach we would’ve won a national championship. He did ok, Notre dame will always be able to attract good talent he’s just an arrogant underachieving asshole.
@ I don’t believe this… I actually think Notre Dame is one of the best teams in the country with one of the most dangerous weapons in Riley Leonard going into the playoffs. You need a playmaker in playoff situations that can work off script & I think only a handful of teams have that with a championship defense. I honestly feel only Ohio State/Oregon can beat this Notre Dame team this season. If this ND team was fully healthy with Craig, Jagusah, Morrison, Traore, Botelho… I would pencil them in for a National Championship appearance.
I have a different perspective of Brian Kelly's time here. The man consistently won here. Made it to the championship game. Yes they got destroyed. No one thought the Irish belonged on the field with that Bama team anyway. Made it to the playoffs twice. Lost both times. I believe he is the winnings coach in ND history. They didn't win a championship and didn't have the talent to do so but his teams were consistently good and won the games they were suppose to. He was here for 10 yrs and it was just time for him to move on. He had taken the program as far as he could. I have very positive feelings of his tenure at ND and am not rejoicing about his struggles at LSU. I appreciate him restoring the program while he was here and don't lose any sleep one way or the other what he does at LSU.
I’ve been a ND fan since 1973, I coached HS football for 12 years. I’ve forgotten more about ND football, than this guy, and all the other IB flunkies, including that failed D3 coach Driskell. I can concede Kelly has come up short in the biggest moments, but ND has not won a National Title since the Reagan Administration. Which means ND fans & commentators have no business talking about any coach or any fanbase. Especially LSU who has won 3 National Titles this century, compared to NDs zero. Kelly has been gone 3 years, let it go, grow up. You are embarrassing sane ND fans.
I don't think half these people even care about BK. I'm sure some are barely even football fans at all, nor do they sincerely believe he's a 'garbage human being'. It's just social media. And they're looking for the next twittter mob. And somehow BK got swallowed up in that when left for LSU. And it really hasn't let up since, it followed him to LSU. It's just the world we live in now.
No one gives a sht that you coached for 12 years. Kelly was a snooty asshole who didn't like to "bend the knee" for anyone once he got to ND. I hate that he broke Knute Rockne's record.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Opinion: LSU is likely facing a substantial conundrum: continuing with the incumbent HC while observing that the program is clearly in a state of regression, or trying to raise the $70 million dollar buyout required to say goodbye. Tough decisions in Baton Rouge.
Kelly gave Cincinnati a 12-0 season them stiffed them to go to ND before their bowl game with Florida in 2009 where they got blown out. Karma came back to visit Kelly in 2021 in the form of a Cincinnati team that beat him in South Bend and was coached by Luke Fickell. I'm surprised Kelly lasted as long as he did at his "dream job" (His words) at ND.
I'm a Bama fan and I was actually nervous when Kelly went to LSU because there's so much talent in Louisiana and they have no rivals to recruit against in state that you can win a Natty even with mediocre coaches (Les Miles, Ed Orgeron). I figured LSU would be a real problem with competent coaching. Boy was I wrong
CBK was competent enough to BEAT da goat last time saban was on the east sideline in Tiger stadium. Just so we clear on something. nic was NOT an elite head coach when he arrived in BR. In his 5 years coaching LSU he avg 3 losses a season. Only ONCE did LSU lose fewer than 3 games under miss terry's husband's guidance.
I don't know why as a Bama fan. Clearly, you weren't watching overall football because BK has been this guy always. As a Bama fan myself I hated when we took on Tommy Reese. He was a dud also!
@FredPitre-o4b get real and honest. BK caught Saban as he was in his decline at Bama. This is coming from a Bama Fan yes we were in decline in those years!
@@kyoung4534 I damn well was watching. I respected Kelly because he took Notre Dame to two playoffs in a state like Indiana that doesn’t have a lot of high school talent in a cold weather state with high academic standards. That program was nowhere when he got there. As a matter of fact, I still think Kelly is a good coach, I just think it’s a bad fit at LSU.
Great commentary bro great commentary I've been saying the same Brian Kelly took us far as he could go and I appreciate him for that but we outgrew him. Looking back I bet he wish he could we think that decision if only I'd known the door would be wide open this year go Irish!!!!!
We also need to hear comments from previous players at Notre Dame. Their comments would carry more weight than the fake punditry of the other commenters here.
My only regret is that we didn't have a Marcus Freeman alot sooner. If it weren't for NIL we'd probably have top 5 classes every year. Not that ND isn't competitive but it's still not where it should be.
I was pissed when Kelly left, but I realize now that it was what was needed. Not sure what’s gonna happen this year with my team, but they are definitely rolling and that offensive engine is purring. The defense looks stout ! GO ND GO !!!!!!!!
He was pretty dang good at Notre Dame and built the program. You cant shit all over him that much if you think about it. Cmon He is the most winningest coach in Notre Dame Football history. He brought the program back and you know it.
I was thrilled especially when they were smart enough to recognize the impact freeman has with the athletes. Also Kelly was fine, he had peaked and wasnt going to move it forward any more and it looked like he was back sliding.
I cant use the words I want to on Kelly except every time I see your team mess up I smile I become so happy, want to see him fired I thought he would retire at ND him leaving shocked me.He has plenty of money , had loving fans,I feel he is a unfaithful snobby coach.Three years losing your first game three years in a row ,I will be a cheering fan sitting on the other teams side cheering on every play you lose. I will never lose my anger over what you did. MKL
I wasn’t angry that he left; I was angry with HOW he left - with the team still in the hunt for a playoff spot. That being said, he did Notre Dame a favor by leaving because he took the program as far as he was going to take it, but he was never going to get them over the hump. Even so, the school had no justifiable reason to get rid of a guy who was 54-9 his last 5 seasons with the team. The school was in a tough spot but Kelly made it easy for them by taking himself out of the equation. Despite the ending, I am appreciative of what he did for the program his 12 years there. Even the most ardent Kelly critic will admit he left the program in much better shape than when he first arrived, so there’s that.
Loved the comment at halftime of National Championship game. He said, "Hope Alabama doesn't show up". ND was down 28-0, lost 42-14. That was the adjustments he made at halftime? In reality, Saban knew the game was over and put Alabama on cruise control for the second half.
It’s funny because for the last 20 years you could look at the schedule and ID the one or two losses. This year is kind of the same but different considering we beat TAMU but lost to NIU. I’ll give it time but unless we beat a good school in the playoffs it’s more of the same
Kelly was never all in at ND. He went after the Eagles job hard and thought he was a the choice he didn’t recruit one player. When they went with Chip Kelly , Brian came back to an empty closet and never recovered. I was more surprised ND didn’t let him go then.
He did help boost our Irish FB program...great indoor FB facility, etc. But, almost from the get-go, Kelly wasn't a Notre Dame man ... from the day he didn't help prevent the needless death of his camera student on top the football-practice field ladder on an extremely windy day (& then not showing nearly enough remorse) to the days of his willy-nilly coaching-hire failures, game & recruiting failures, to the cancelling of the long-time tradition of the pre-game Mass in the Basilica (since restored)!
Coach Kelly is not the fundamentals coach like Les Miles and not the experimental edge like Orgeron. Hes not terrible. But still i would like the chance to play Notre Dame in a bowl game
Well in his defense, he did take accountability and changed whatever needed to be changed. He takes accountability at LSU bc we are ruthless. Most ruthless fan base in college football I promise you
It is easy to criticize but Kelly did a heck of a job at ND. Didn't they play for a national title in 2012 and go 12-0. Also, he had a couple of other very good seasons at ND. His teams never lost to creampuffs like NIU and Marshall. Those two are totally unacceptable
Brian Kelly if he is canned at LSU. He will never recover from this. He should've went pro when he had the chance. Also, remember there was rumor going around that Kelly said to another one of his staff members "I cannot believe they (Previous Staff -Charlie Weis) COULD NOT WIN with these players" and everybody quickly dispelled it as rumors and he say she say BS. Well I fully believe now, knowing his character and lack of coaching/ peer etiquette he made those remarks towards WEIS' staff. This guy is some piece of sh**, WORK I MEANT WORK LOL.....I'm so happy we have Coach Freeman, to all of those fans trying to dismiss CMF as not the one, well well well look at us now.....#FreemanERAisHERE #NATTYNEXT

It’s only been three years. I guess I get the ND salt (leaving for a better looking girlfriend/boyfriend) but I wasn’t expecting to hear it for so long. Isn’t he the most winningest coach in ND history?
He's also the losingest coach in ND history. Of the seven coaches who played more than five seasons, his winning percentage is seventh. Even if you count the vacated wins.
@@timpetta2974 '22 10 wins. '23 10 wins. How is that regressing? In fact %wise the '23 season was BETTER than '22. How much you chipping in for the buyouts??
Yes he has more wins then knute rockne but wors wining percentage. Bk coached at nd for 10 years knute for 13. But if you go back and look Notre dame was only playing between 6-8 games a season back then. So it's not really as impressive as it sound. rockne was 105-12. BK lost a total of 39 games at nd
You might be correct about Kelly, but the concerns about recruiting to ND, especially with regard to academics and the strict entrance requirements, are true (and weather isn't a significant issue.) Many former coaches have spoken about this. Urban Meyer took the FL job over ND because Lou Holtz told him this exact thing.
LSU overall has some of the HIGHEST NIL athletes in the country. This is year THREE of the CBK regime. It takes a minute to rectify the mess he inherited.
Kelly took ND to a nattie game with less than very top drawer talent, after an undefeated regular season. He also got into four-team playoff on multiple occasions without benefit of a 13th game. The "hump" you say Kelly couldn't get over was one heck of a hump. It was made up of UGA (regular season), Bama twice at Saban's raging peak, Clemson in Dabo's peak. Also, his arrival at LSU was unprecedented in that absolutely NO assts followed him. That was a disaster. He's also playing a hell of a lot tougher schedule+ conference title game. And who has ND beat subce he left there. Freeman has all of Kelly's coaches and he still is not a serious title contender.
Most fans around LSU are impatient. They want to win now, regardless of circumstances. The handful of realistic people knew that when BK got here, it was going to be a 5-6 year rebuild. Why? Because of the state of the roster at the time. LSU had 39 scholarship players. The first two years of recruiting were basically throw-away, because he had to take so many portal guys. Yet, he still managed to win the SEC West and the Heisman. We knew it was going to take several (4-5) recruiting cycles to get the mean talent level back up to LSU standards, where you have veteran, elite talent and depth at all positions. And that's what we're seeing play out. LSU being 6-4 is not a surprise to the handful of realistic people around here. BK insists (and I agree) on building the program from high school players. And it takes time to do that. LSU's 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes are going to be elite. And when those guys are developed, along with some guys from last year's class, LSU will have a team of elite players capable of competing for the NC. Meanwhile, ND's recruiting has proven to be same-ole same-ole. Also, don't forget, you play a cheese schedule and you lost to Northern Illinois... NORTHERN ILLINOIS!! Also, you all were so excited to get Denbrock. You thought he was a game changer. And he could workout well for you guys. But I know I told you, and I'm sure others did as well, that you guys were underrating Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr. Those 3, along with the rest of the offense, made Denbrock look pretty damn good. Bottom line - ND will not have a good offense until it gets an elite QB and elite skill players across the board. Which it hasn't been able to get in my lifetime. Think about this - LSU lost their OC, starting WRs, starting QB, and starting RB and their offense STILL puts up better numbers than ND's offense this year. And that's with ND playing against the #82 strength of schedule while LSU has the #5 strength of schedule. This video is dumb and premature. And next year won't be much better for LSU... as expected.
LSU football needs to change to BKs expectations. It’s not the other way around. LSU is lucky to have him. No coach wanted to touch 2021 LSU with a stick.
Nonsense. Kelly brought the program back after a series of underperforming coaches. So, thank you Brian and best of luck. And I love Marcus Freeman and the job he is doing.
100% correct... i can tell a good coach or not in 2-3 games and b.kelly is average at best in real game situations.....players are not disciplined or ready along with terrible game plan.......you couldnt be more right....hes way overated
Man it’s not that he wasn’t the guy. He could of been the guy. But he took another opportunity that turned out to be trash. It’s definitely his fault the situation he’s in and he could be the head of an amazing football team rn but instead freeman is and it couldn’t make me happier. He’s been a good coach the first two years and the last two he’s been a great coach
Notre Dame fans, sorry for not believing you guys!! We were so happy to have a coach that spoke in complete sentences, we didn’t want to believe all the negatives we heard about!!🐯💜💛
Geez this guy sound scary accurate.... but to be honest our team just not good enough BUT its players showing promise he wont play i really dont know at this point, but we're injured and dont have depth
BK was always a non-aggressive bend don't break coach. This is exactly why he's neutralizing the talent he's inheriting/recruiting at LSU. And LSU players aren't naturally motivated by the demands as a student athlete that ND athletes have. BK leaned on ND players always being battle tested mentally and took it for granted.
I remember his reaction to the ND defeat by Tulsa! Tulsa. And BK said he wouldn’t do anything differently. 🤔😳🤯🤬 What??? I knew at that point that he was gonna SUCK as a head coach. Thank you, LSU.
Notre Dame has failed to win the big game before Brian Kelly and now with out Brian Kelly Notre Dame has a Notre Dame problem not at Brian Kelly problem and Kelly never lost a group of five schools
@@BrendanMeyer-q8l How bout this. CBK has never lost to G5 program while at LSU. Cab freeman same the same about his time in south bend? Same timeframe. CBK wasn't gifted a top 10 program like freeman was.
@@FredPitre-o4b Just so I'm clear, when you say "BK wasn't gifted a top 10 program like freeman was" are you insinuating that MF walked into a better situation than BK? MF did inherited a top 10 team, but BK inherited an SEC blueblood with recent championship pedigree. BK was hardly stepping into a rebuild just b/c the previous coach had consecutive subpar seasons. Big stretch.
USC fan here- great job by Marcus smart this year-if love returns healthy, who knows they may win a playoff game ? Kelly was NOT a bad coach at all, but he was a total jerk, lair and committed manslaughter. He’s justr an awful man.
Nick Sabin had a 5 loss season in his third year at LSU. In year four he won the national championship for LSU. We (LSU) are on track to have our best recruiting class in 2025 ever. Don't forget that Joe Burrow had two mediocre years before winning the National Championship and Jayden Daniels had two mediocre years before winning the Heisman. You may be right in your assessment of Kelly but I'm ready to give him and Nussmeier another year. Oh and by the way, Nick Sabin wasn't exactly Mister Warm and Fuzzy either.
I still don’t think ND will win a championship anytime soon. I can’t see them beating teams like Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State. They just aren’t at that level.
I'm not a ND nor a LSU fan, but predicted this when Kelly took the LSU job. This guy just seems like someone would throw anyone under the bus to get 9 wins, including his players.

Huge favor? Look what you have now? 😂
@@mcraft2240 I guess I see a ton of talent and depth that BK wouldn't have made the effort to recruit.
@@mcraft2240
The huge favor taking Kelly from Notre Dame is that he was never getting fired for winning ten games a year. Marcus is recruiting at a higher level and it’s showing by the depth to overcome all the injuries this year.
I knew Brian Kelly was never going to get us to a national championship. He asked for a raise every year.
Sunday morning, drinking coffee in my Irish mug....enjoying this:)
Remember when they told us….we were the jealous ex-girlfriend!?
Same thing happened to Oklahoma fans when they warned SC about Riley.
Still no National Title since 1988.
@@JTH-hm8ew And we’re still fans. Be gone
Losing to Alabama,Knocked LSU out the playoffs
Marcus Freeman is the real deal. ❤❤❤
I was a BK apologist for a long time, too. The Cincinnati game in 21 is what made me give up on him
If was Miami in 17 for me. But I remember being so frustrated with that Cinci game. All you gotta do is beat Cinci at home for a playoff bid and you couldn’t get it done. I was like wtf is this.
@tomas746 that was a rough one for sure.
It took you that long?!
Cinci, northwestern, Tulsa etc etc. BK sucks
We called him Purple Kelly. He wasn’t a players coach.
I mean he did…
-push to upgrade facilities.
ND plays a soft schedule and will likely lose by 21-24 points if they make the Playoffs.
Best coach since Holtz. With ND fans it will never be good enough no matter who’s there.
He is a real piece of work he let these kids down at Notre Dame
i watch all the notre dame channels and you are the best....
Nailed it Ryan! ☘️ 🍀
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Opinion:
LSU is likely facing a substantial conundrum: continuing with the incumbent HC while observing that the program is clearly in a state of regression, or trying to raise the $70 million dollar buyout required to say goodbye.
@@FredPitre-o4b well either way Kalen DeBoer has your number
Kelly won 70% of his games at ND and had a top 10 recruiting class his last year there.
There are a lot of worse coaches than him.
great comments
We also need to hear comments from previous players at Notre Dame. Their comments would carry more weight than the fake punditry of the other commenters here.
This was the easiest schedule with no Championship game. The playoff system was set up for ND to get in every year. How do you not make it?
My only regret is that we didn't have a Marcus Freeman alot sooner. If it weren't for NIL we'd probably have top 5 classes every year. Not that ND isn't competitive but it's still not where it should be.

No National Title since 1988.

What do you mean, another excuse? Eric comments are on point, the truth!

Freeman did get hired by Kelly. I’m not a Kelly guy either, but he did some legit stuff. But glad he’s gone as most ND fans are
I was thrilled especially when they were smart enough to recognize the impact freeman has with the athletes. Also Kelly was fine, he had peaked and wasnt going to move it forward any more and it looked like he was back sliding.
I lost it in 2014 when we lost in Tallahassee they were ranked 4 and we were ranked 5. That fucked the whole season up. I was ready for him to go then
I cant use the words I want to on Kelly except every time I see your team mess up I smile I become so happy, want to see him fired I thought he would retire at ND him leaving shocked me.He has plenty of money , had loving fans,I feel he is a unfaithful snobby coach.Three years losing your first game three years in a row ,I will be a cheering fan sitting on the other teams side cheering on every play you lose. I will never lose my anger over what you did. MKL
Have you thought of getting a life?
In their 3rd seasons, Marcus Freeman's Irish finished 11-1, Brian Kelly's Tigers went 8-4 and Lincoln Riley's Trojans were 6-6.
I stopped thinking about Kelly as soon as I heard he left nd the way he did
Mr Roberts keeps receipts
Have to agree, this LSU team is looking worse each week this season
Tulsa, South Florida and Navy weren’t creampuffs?
He didn't win those big games either
Freeman has more wins against the top 25 in three years than Kelly did in 10 plus years enough said
By my count CBK has a dozen top 25 wins in LAST FIVE years at ND. How many top 25 wins for freeman in his three years?
@FredPitre-o4b Freeman is 10 and 4 against the top 25. Brian Kelly last three seasons at Notre Dame he was 5 and 5 against top 25
Ryan - don't jinx us pal.... ND is in a great spot this year and the years ahead....
Yes, he would love to yell at the pro players and put all the blame on them when they lose. He is a loser with a capital L. I am looking at you now and will not hold my breath waiting for ND and Freeman to win a natty. Won’t happen.
I hate notre dame but I would love for my son to play for coach freeman
Kelly is great if you want a top 12 team and nothing more. Thats the limit of his talent..
HEY Purdue keep him in mind.
@ Over Weis, Willingham, and Davie? Even Hotltz struggled after the adim cracked down.
LSU record gets worse each year. 3 years of no progress but regression. He and Scott Woodward need to go elsewhere.
Brian "pass the blame" Kelly. Living up to his namesake.
I really thought he’d win a national title at lsu with relaxed recruiting standards but I wonder how much nil has effected things
LSU overall has some of the HIGHEST NIL athletes in the country. This is year THREE of the CBK regime. It takes a minute to rectify the mess he inherited.
Nick Saban won his 1st NCAA Championship with LSU. 😊
I was a BK apologist until ND decided to play football in a hurricane against NC State in 2016. After that I had enough.
RYAN ROBERTS is speaking TRUTH 🔥

Brian Kelly was born to be a politician, or an NFL Coach.
