Billy Moore, I work with homeless, drug and alcohol dependent and ex prisoners, I discovered your channel about two or three weeks ago, for the most part I never get to find out what happened to the people I have tried to help, but watching this video shows me, the work I do can sometimes help people, you are an amazing man Billy who has been through a lot, keep up the good work, love your channel.
Billy When I first meet you near Williamson Square by chance the last thing I ever thought would be you sharing this very moving video on your road to recovery. I felt very moved and humbled. Especially when you said it was the first time you felt you belonged and was welcomed . I also felt a certain pride when you spoke to the passers-by and said that you were there 20years ago and evidently you were successful.
We all get written off. I get it so few make but we are around. Proud to be 4 years clean. For clarity I smoke weed and do hallucinagens. Great for my asd. It ain't heroin and crack.
Great video I to was in there 23 years ago and walk up that drive with my HMP bag to be met by Dave after years in jail thought I was better than all the crack heads and looked down on the smack heads… but I was the same as them just lost and then moved into the mance and after that to Weston super mare… thank god for the old wood still got some great oaks from there 20years on I’m living the dream.. well done pal
My parents went there when i was 12ish about 20 years ago. Got lots of pics outside there i used to love running riots on the grounds lol. They say the exact same what you said about the meetings they hated it at first lol. Changed their lives though. Good video brings back so many memories
If not for Barley Wood!! Good on you Billy, I could see it was pulling on you mate. Made you the best version of yourself. Enjoy every day, you’ve earned it. 🙏🏻✌️🏴
Billy i cant even picture you as a junkie or being on the streets lad. Out of all these podcasters you are by far the most inspring. Respect to the scouse 👊👊👊
Wow I was in there when I was 18 went straight there from the Kevin White unit, That was 26 years ago, I was the same thought I knew better than everyone else, How times have changed 💯
What a beautiful place, such gorgeous grounds. It must make you feel really proud billy to see how much your life has changed for the better! Such a gift to have recovery in your life, I have a younger brother who’s been to rehab many times and it hasn’t worked for him yet!! I still have hope though! He’s wasted so much of his life in and out of prison.😢 Hope Terry is okay and doing well! haven’t him on here since his holiday x
Helen and Gill seemed like decent people. Lovely little village and I imagine that rehab could really help and more than likely has helped a lot of people like yourself billy. Beautiful place

Loved this story Billy been watching your podcasts since lockdown from North Wales. Tomorrow I'm 1 week sober/free from alcohol and I never want to go back. Take care mate.
Great video Billy a had same experience as you but in a place called castle Craig in the Scottish borders a had same street mentality a was closed right up it took a wile for me to break down the walls that a covered myself in a felt right out of place the other residents wer acting different from me they wer nice to each other loving and caring with each other this was new to me first a thought they wer softies or bible thumpers but through time a got humble and started telling the truth to myself and others a had to get rid of the street mentality which took some doing as it was all a ever knew anyway now am 10 year clean and sober and fit in society cheers Billy ❤ Willie from glasgow
I knew you been in the castle Bill, I was brought up 2 mins away from Lancaster castle, Billy spent a lot of my youth up at the back of the castle behind their by the priory, drinking and smoking weed, and behind their is called the quay meadow and if we got off wi a girl, then we'd take them to the quay meadow disco, 😆ha ha, did most of my dating ther 😆, but Billy this place has gotta bring back good memories for you, cos it put you on the road to recovery, well done Billy Moore, you're a goodfella, 👌💯.
Beautiful place that Billy, you look a bit emotional, cos you know you've got a lot to thank this place for, it saved your life Billy, well done sir, you've come a million miles, absolutely stunning place, did this place give you inspiration Billy. I'm in a 33 yr addiction, never done rehab, detox, nothing, I'm still on 90 mil, and that's the lowest I've ever been on, i was taking 175 mil a day plus alcohol, benzos, and half gram of gear a day, now I still have a dabble, blow out 1/2 times a month, but I come off the bevvy 6 years ago, and I stopped the benzos, and I get 200 mils of pregabs a day, but I do struggle, i hate it but it's all I've known since I was 11 , I've took some kind of drugs since then, and it terrifies me mate, i wish I had the strength of ppl in the comments, but well done to you Billy, and shout out, Helen and Gill 💙. Gwan Billy, you're smashing it now lad. Moral billy, always have a spare pair of kex, cos u never know, ha ha 😆✌️😎.
I went too phoenix house Wirral in 2012 bill similar lovley old house in its own grounds as well as giving me the tools too recover don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in my life think people think recovery all seriousness which it is but omg some of the things we used too do in free time and have a laugh never forget that thanks bill
Powerful video this one billy.what a beautiful place barley wood is.i went to the wrong rehab in the early 2000s by the look n sound of your experience the difference is like night n day to my experience in the Princess diana one in Norfolk.screwed up faces no welcome nobody wanted to be there people were getting parcels in it was a knightmare i lasted 26hours an went bck home sadly..😂💚✌️
Very very lucky to be sent there Bill it’s absolutely Beautiful & if you wasn’t going to carry on with your recovery there & successfully beat your Demons there l don’t think you would beat them anywhere anywhere 🤷🏼♀️l went to a retreat with the Nun’s my Auntie had been there a couple so she sorted it for me and l thought l was in heaven ! The peace , tranquility and the grounds reminded me of there & it was were l needed to be at that exact time and everyone there was there for me and as you you said showed you love with out you even knowing you needed it and lve never looked back, so l understand exactly what you’re saying, so thanks for bringing back some of my own memories and maybe one day lie go back like you did & show them my appreciation hopefully it’s still a Retreat! But what a lovely place Barley Wood is 🌸🌺
Its only a few mile from me as a bristol lad i was never going to get in there lol i ended up in st james priory walsingham house round the back of the bus station in town .. not the best of places 😱 got shut down for its harsh ragime but think still operates as a mens mental health suport. What did help me later on was walking off miles all day loosing myself in somerset countryside the peace for your soul and time out from all the rubbish and shit you been through in life is perfect healing 🙏
Wow Billy, that was a big one for me to see all round there again, and I too remember you walking in, but I stood off a bit in the reception near the bay window, I thought he looks a handful ! 😂 no joke, cos you’d come in with weight on from prison like you said and I turned up a week or 2 earlier than you at about 10 stone ringing wet and carrying two bags of clothes. You should have put the photo I sent you of you stood outside the front door ( you were still in your first week or two of Barleywood stage on that pic ) When you walked round the grounds filming there it really hasn’t changed a bit, and I too used to enjoy sitting round that fish pond ( because I’m an avid angler and a proper water baby ) very peaceful round that end of the grounds, like the bottom tier of the lawns and bushes area etc . The Irish lad was called Jayson I think, him and that lad from reading used to show us all pickpocketing tricks in the hallway in our down time.
Bless you Billy ! I've been away from all that shyte for more than 20 years, sometimes I forget for a while, I ponder on what could of happened if I hadn't leant that way, but that frightens me because I've made it through, and I know what happened and I wouldn't gamble that for anything , I stumbled on your videos by accident and a lot of them are close to where I grew up, from St pauls to Wrington, you brought back a lot of thoughts and memories and it was all positive because of your manner, you've a good positive mental attitude, hold that tight my friend it will see you right forever ! Stay strong and live long, we are the survivors. 🙏👌👍
I moved to Bristol myself (also to try and get clean.) Great city. You should visit Minehead while you're down there it's got some of the most beautiful coastline in the UK
Billy you really do talk some sense, people are very quick to judge, to watch your videos and to listen to the sometimes harrowing tales is a testament to how you have pulled your finger out your arse and knuckled down, addiction is a horrible thing it lingers over you like that big black rain cloud and inevitably pisses all over you day after fuckin day, people don't realize how difficult it is each and every day, to wake up and not know if today you will be weak and have a slip up, weather that be a pint,a pipe or a line, it's hard. Each clean day is a blessing and should be recognized, there is nobody to pat you on the back but yourself and each night alone in ya pit all you can do is think about your past and all your fuck ups, All the people you let down then bang it's morning and you go again, all we can do is keep our heads high our chest out and do it all again. Its truly hard, and I think some people will never really get that. Another insightful video Billy, thanks. I think we have some thing in common buddy, i used to live with a cousin of yours for what nearly 10 years. Keep up the good work and stay safe 👍
Christmas 1998 I was in there. Got into a relationship and used. I was given a choice be discharged home or get transfered to the sister house in Norfolk..I took the transfer.
Wow I bet we only got a snippet of the thoughts this must’ve invoked in you, good and bad. I was hooked on weed for about 30 years (I know not a hard drug but it’s the addiction gene that keeps you there) I managed finally, and I know it was final to kick it last March. I knew the chains had finally come off. There’s no better feeling than looking back at your old life and feeling strong and confident you’ll never return to that way.
Isn’t it sad though ay Billy, that places like Barley Wood, and the like, are now closed, when they are desperately needed, their putting you in a so called “rehab”more like “recall “,in Tuebrook now,a rehab in tuebrook man, compared with Barley Wood, say no more.
Don't get me wrong we are all different I never went to a rehab got so much strong will. I was a iv user too. The truth is I hate being told what to do. I wouldn't have lasted a day. F this I'm walking back to the Midlands. I've walked 70 miles because I was pissed off.
Make sure you speak SLOOOOOWLY round there lad, (so people can understand you), im from Huyton, but due to the accent they all thaught i was from poland 😳😳😳🤦♂️😂👍🏻
