- In this video we are reviewing Whoopi Goldberg! Caryn Elaine Johnson (born November 13, 1955), known professionally as Whoopi Goldberg, is an American actress, comedian, author, and television personality. She has been nominated for 13 Emmy Awards and is one of the few entertainers to have won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. She is the second black woman to win an Academy Award for acting.
Whoopi has been a pioneer in wearing dreadlocks in Hollywood. She has featured a great variation of locs ever since The Color Purple, and continues to wear an amazing variation of styles today.
On TPL Locs (that pineapple life locs) we review dreadlocks from people all over the world. We do videos on loc journey's, dreads in different cultures and reactions to (black) hair in the media.

Hey!!! This video was on point. You have no idea how great your timing is ... this video was needed, on a personal tip! So many people have called me Whoopi, since growing my locs (they're getting thicker and thicker) and I never quite knew how to feel about it. Now I see it as nothing but a high compliment. Whoopi Goldberg and Tracy Chapman are two of my favorite black women rocking locs. 😍 😍 Thank ypu for your videos. ❤
Whoopi is an inspiration. I had no idea that wasn’t her real name, though.. lol. She’s beautiful, I have always loved her locs.
Me too! I was pleasantly surprised to see her actual name on Wikipedia haha
Whoopi wore wigs when her locs weren't shown. She started her loc journey in the 80's.
This is the answer, lol. I’m not sure why folks think she was chopping and reattaching locs between movie premiers. She’s talked about it before.
I don't have a problem with faux locs but I really wish she kept her own locs because they were beautiful
True!
Have u ever noticed that Whoopi has no eyebrows???
haha oh my god
Yep. I noticed. Took me a while. I dunno about you, but I love it. This lady was never afraid to do things differently, right?!
@@KatePearl- she's a rebel for sure 😁
@@KatePearl- I don't think she removed her eyebrows to be courageous or a rebel, she just doesn't have freakin eyebrows lol
@@joshuamontgomery2298 she did it on purpose. I remember reading an article where she talked about why she did it
Whoopi’s is also a braidloc like Toni Morrison. Again this method is used also for newgrown and one doesnt want to wait for the length to catch up to the longer locs. 1991: Wig. She too is a semi-form. When you dont see her in locs, they are wigs.
Please do Assata Shakur, Tracy Chapman, Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, and Kelela.
aaah yeah I was waiting on some good suggestions for female loc heads! Thank you Charlyndria! :D
Seeing Whoopi with locs as a kid, made me want locs.
As a kid Whoopi always reminded me of a real life black Marge Simpson
I am soooooo glad you did a closer look at Ms. Whoopi's locs because she always keeps it fresh and different with her own locs. As you may or may not know, Ms. Whoopi was a professional hair stylist by trade before she became the EGOT actor that she has become so she knows how to style and maintain her own hair. I can also imagine that being certified in the haircare industry, as well as becoming the ICON that she is, she is well acquainted and has the access to the latest and greatest in loc techniques, both natural and faux. I was not a fan of faux locs and altering the natural progression of loc growth and maintenance; however, now that I'm on my latest (3rd) set of locks and my views have changed. I've reattached my own locs from (2001) that I preserved and i'm loving the journey thus far. It's been about six weeks. I did my first re-twist and style, which is new for me. I really don't want to re-twist as often as i used to when I had my locs previously. (1997-2001; 2005-2015) I enjoy your channel immensely. Keep providing us with "food for thought" on the Loc Nation!!!
Thanks for sharing! I knew Lady G had done makeup (professionally), but never knew she did hair! Awesome :D
Yes, I agree. I’m glad to see Whoopi keeping her locs. 😃👍
Whoopi and her locs are beautiful at all stages
She never took the braids out from when she first had them done until her locs got longer.
All of your other videos that you had to remove, were all too much for the world, being that they were all so very, very, very beautiful showing people of color "happy" with their dreadlocks. The world can't stand that kind of energy. This world wants your energy to be always below 10. Smh. You were on to some really cool videos showing our beauty with our natural dreadlocks. You had did a very lovely video showing "thick locs". It's gone too. That was my favorite. Keep up the good work nevertheless..xx
Thank you for the kind words Tef! I will be sure to make a more ''acceptable'' video for RUclips's standard with thick locs, dont you worry :D:D
@@TPLlocs what did youtube not like about your other vids?? :/
@@TPLlocs I literally just got here, but whatever YT's issue is with your content, keep going please!
Well said
I think people should do what they like and what's best for each individual person, being able to be ourselves is a true treasure I say live and let live .
🙌🏽🙌🏽
I don't think her locs are faux as often as you mention...what looked like wire or string wrapping in her grey locs, to me, looks like the natural curvyness of compressed, well maintained, long term locs.
Back in the 90s, the lady who played the dean on "A Different World" had locs, and also Vanessa Williams (Soul Food)
You should make a video on Toni Morrisons grey dreads
I love her💖 thanks for this beautiful video✨
Oh wow! Thank you for this video🙇♀️
Great Channel. Glad I found it.
She was wearing wigs! Other than that, she wore her own hair!
Makes sense... she had great hairstylists though!
Jumping Jack Flash she was also really young in this movie
My friend got his locs retwisted in South Africa and they use a crochet needle for it. The result looks like a woolly texture with neat finish
instalocks. Love it. I had my first set started like that.
I love Whoopi Locs.
Some Jamaicans Have Dreadlocks.
I Love My Locs!🥰❤️ Great Video 😊
I like the pic of her and Bea!
I luv her locks
Love this video.
I really like your videos I’m about a month into my lock journey sometimes I felt like just stoping but your videos really make me reconsider
MOB don’t stop I’m 4 months in and enjoying my journey more by the day
At jevonty 96 thanks for the support🙏🏽
@@mob6842 Don't stop growing it. It keeps getting better over time
Don't forget the movie, Ghost! My fav❤
I always said it seems as if her locs fluctuate. Thick thin really thick then thin again. I have locs and that's not what happens IRL. Yarn was uncooperative at certain times. I still love her..
Can you please do a video on Jacquees or jaydayongan
I've always been confused on Whoopis hair...The only reason I'm here is because I'm watching one of her movies from the 90's..
Can you do a Stevie Wonder braidlocs please
So she had Swae Lee's hairstyle before he did
She had dreads way before the color purple check out the movie burglar
The Color Purple was in 1985. That was her filming debut. Burglar came out in 1987.
in 1995 erica alexander had beautiful locs....
Whoopi locs were mature in 93 you said at 5:40 they were starting to mature mature looks are very tight and you can't really make out strands of hair anymore almost like it is cemented.
Love your videos
Wigs weave and braid extensions
Please do dreadlock video on Joey badass
I wanted Wiz Khalifa but I’m satisfied with Whoopi!
I seen sombody said do playboy carti & I agree his locks are dope
Who are you talking about?
Debby Lewis a rapper named “playboy carti”
@@mob6842 ok thanks
You need to review YNW Melly's Dreadlocks
Yaaayy
Do playboi carti🦋
Hmmm... not sure what she is doing but clearly something is going on with her locs or faux locs.. I still like her thou.
