Thanks for all the comments on this video!! This is something I had made for a gamejam from MFGG back in 2020 which I just now decided to upload and share. I did not expect this to get as much attention as it has but I appreciate all the comments. I have added a download link to the videos description for anyone that wants to check the hack out for themselves!
I used to imagine a secret path going down the waterfall from vanilla fortress, which never existed, but this is something amazing all together! It’s real??
I used to have dreams about Zelda link to the past, I was finding new areas thru the map And it seemed so real, the bridge u stand up on death mountain when u look down u see a part of the map u can’t get to, that frickin gave me so many dreams too
I SWORE there was a second secret behind Vanilla Dome 1. Those rocks behind it looked oddly suspicious and held a secret that I spent AGES trying to find something with.
I like thay these are normal difficulty and not crazy impossible maps like most mods and edits. This feels exactly like something Nintendo would make back in the 90s. And theres something magical about that.
I know its not real but damn this is so nostalgic with all those like videos that are like "super secret exit" and stuff. Also the map looks super clean
yea it's really lovely this has a cross-generational appeal- older people who grew up imagining such things in smw, younger now old enough to be remembering videos of a similar kind of idea
I've been wanting to rebuild the entirety of Mega Man 2 from the ground up, but then add whole new areas to the existing levels with new items and weapons and game play features, but they can only be accessed by doing extremely obscure and specific things
@@wijons522, I hate the fact that your parents thought that meeting each other in the first place was a pair of good ideas, let alone the fact that you think that people ought to give you credibility with your complete and utter dumpster fire of a comment because you were so desperate and pathetic to try and get up votes that you literally have given to your comment that you dared to post on here. Finally, if you hate mods so much, and if they were also so horrible, then why is it that, not only is there a whole series of modding communities that are around Mario games, but that even Nintendo themselves essentially gave up and made not one, but TWO, Super Mario Maker video games in response to the modding communities? Why not riddle me THAT one, Batman?
I must have horror brain rot of some kind cause I expected things to go bad after triggering the purple switch lol. The hack looks so well made, good job!
The levels and even the switch palace feel pretty close to the actual game. The combination of ice and lava is a little silly but I could see them doing that one as a regular cave or an icy cave with regular death pits. The switch palace is slightly less on brand with its use of concrete blocks, but the note block bounce to get the 1up to the end does actually feel like a switch palace puzzle.
When I was a kid, I always thought there was a secret exit in the castle right there that I couldn't find because it totally looks like there should be another map area up there. I used to have dreams about it and then wake up and spend hours beating that castle and the surrounding levels over and over trying to find the secret exit that doesn't exist. 😅 Very cool video!
I’m almost inclined to call this the first *real* patch/DLC made for SMW. This is incredible. For once, it’s not just a random added secret or kaizo levels. It’s a real alternate route across the Butter Bridge area. Would be awesome if someone built on this with a World9-type continuation that utilized the purple blocks.
The only thing that convinces me that this isn't vanilla is that stages with multiple exits are always red and stages with only one exit are yellow. But still fun, regardless!
Vanilla peak looks amazing! You did a good job! Kinda strange how the vine just dumps Mario out on top of Ludwigs castle tho. Maybe you could have put a star warp that flies Mario up and then fades back in to him being on castle 4. idk
A common mistake is having two feathers or two flowers in a place where both are important you can manually release one of them and the other will go back in the box when you collect it
Be careful. My cousin did this on a cartridge that he bought from an old japanese man at a yard sell, and my cousin went missing 😮😮 and when they found his body there was a note in his pocket that said “sper Mario pleas. Need more super Mario.” 😮😮😮😮
Brings back memories of playing Super Mario World in the early 90s before I made it very far and imagining levels like this. One that I actually dreamt about was an alternate Cookie Mountain with levels called Watch Out For Dragons, which were basically all like Chocolate Island 1 with Dino Rhinos and Mini-Rhinos (Dino Torches).
This reminds me of old old old myth on top secret area and its secret exit that leads to that small island and granted you "Super Lazer Suit". Or one that had a secret level with grey spinies that were graphically glitched buzzy beatles. Ah... those were some nice times of "oldschool rumours".
Is there any read me file for this to help identify other secrets in this game? Is Vanilla Peak the only additional secret? I don't think anyone would be able to figure out that you had to wait a certain bit of time before the end of Vanilla Secret 3 for a P Switch. Or does this version of the game have in-game hints through those hint boxes? - This is really cool though.
i thought this was going to be some kind of creepypasta. now i think this would be a pretty cool creepypasta game concept. it’s the normal game but there are tiny hidden ways to get to new areas which is where the spoopy part is. which i guess is kind of like b3313 this is cool regardless
I wish it was made clear that this isn't in the actual game so you don't have people trying this out wondering why it doesn't work. This is not real, people.
They should’ve also had a purple Yoshi to go with the hack. But what would it be able to do? The Red could breathe fire, the Blue could fly, and the Yellow could stomp, but what would Purple do? Also, could there also be other colors, like Orange and Pink?
I played the entire game 6 or 5 and found everything so when i saw this i was yeah okay Then saw the comments and yeah it almost looks exactly like a Nintendo thing its crazy
Hi how come nothing drops down to show the door to open to vanilla peak 1? got all yhe yoshi coins to get the one up but still nothing..did this a lot of times now ehe

@dertob_ what is that hack name? Can you send that link to me?
Vanilla Peak overworld feels like a land you would see in a dream. The theme also has a ... "dreamy" pleasant feel to it.
Had dreams about stuff like this as a kid. Suddenly uncovering entire new areas in Super Metroid, and new suits. Ugh.
Yup! Same here. I had dreams about a secret exit in the Special levels, giving access to a secret Yoshi world.
I used to have dreams about Zelda link to the past, I was finding new areas thru the map
And it seemed so real, the bridge u stand up on death mountain when u look down u see a part of the map u can’t get to, that frickin gave me so many dreams too
My dreams helped me completing Majoras mask as a young kid. Kinda crazy how much sleep theorycrafting can help.

Yeah some require you to precisely hop on top of a shell
These levels feel out of place because they have no sense of flow ..kinda slapped together to be easy
@@flewis02most of the levels in this part of the game are confusing tangles of possible paths. That’s not just this one.
The most aggravating part about this video is that we never get to see if the Purple Blocks contain any power-ups when they're hit.

videos like these had me enamored as a kid. thanks for keeping the magic alive.

I love the concept of secrets that haven't been discovered until ages later.
EDIT: I already knew it was fake, by the way.
SMW has always and will always have 96 exits, these are mods you are watching in these videos.

This is neat. I like how it just feels like there should be more to see above Vanilla Lake, but isn't a large area.
Reminds me of that secret laser suit video we all fell for way back when. If this video came out back then I would have 100% believed it

This looks so real, I could believe Nintendo made it. However, Vanilla Peak 2 doesn't have SFX echo unlike other cave levels in SMW.

great idea honestly. might be a nice change from my usually very involved projects
@@dertob_ So what's that name? Where am I trying to find it??

I was literally about to pull out my Super Nintendo and try this until I read the comments 😂
I thought this was real, but no. It's like the secret laser suit level all over again.
These kinds of levels in a newer version of the original game would make it considerably more enjoyable I think

Oh good, now all those purple outlines that never existed can be filled in.
This is super well made !!
>That mountain on top of Vanilla Dome
...Yeah, that would be prime real estate for something like this. And Vanilla Peak is a good name for it.
I agree, this would be a great addition to the game. Also that little island north of Top Secret Area.
That’s some seriously good level design ❤
Well done, I never knew that was there until now.
For once they are Mario mod levels that aren’t constant anxiety-attack, overly difficult stupidity. They actually look legit and believable. Props.

I dont remember do this world, there were "97 worlds" in Super Mario World. Amazing. I will check on Mini SNES...
This is so realistic that I'm 90% sure I played it as a child.
Its funny how years later one finds secrets in a game. Granted I know this ones made up but it makes you want to play the game again. I know I do.
Love it !
Can I access the purple land shown in this video on Super Mario World for SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) on Nintendo Switch?
Exactly four levels. The four levels that we always needed! To round out to where the level count would be 100

I told my friends it was real, but I could never discover how to get the p switch to spawn. Thanks for the video evidence.
Vanilla Peak's map theme reminds me of a lo-fi song.
It's missing something...
oh right! a "super duper ultra infinity top secret area" level with a blatantly overpowered powerup
Love the level design, forgotten the beauty in the simplicity of making a true vanilla mario world level

If you've seen the code spelled out with coins in Vanilla Peak 1, It spells mario.
Waluigi Switch Palace? We had Wario Switch Palace, Luigi Switch Palace, and Mario Switch Palace.
I remember these playground talks we had about finding secrets, that our uncle who worked for Nintendo told us about 😅

I love it I just wish we got to see what happens when you hit a purple block.
Where did you discover that secret; In that water castle, there is another one above.
I was today years old when I learned this
The simple fact that Vanilla Peak 1 spelled MARIO instead of MAYRO is proof this is fake!
Also, the extra Switch Palace should've been Grey imo.
The snes gods have smiled upon us today
Dude if you would tell this to any SMW player who didn't know about this romhack they would go nuts

Hey how did you The purple switch in super Mario world.
The messed up part is i sold my Super nintendo when i was 15. Used to own one at one time myself.
How is it messed up?
