      Sorry, no beard and pretty short and skinny. XD
      But as to the video topic...yet again, you post something I agree with. Just watched the Phys Ranged, and you're right on that, too.
      I'm not sure what's up, but things are just weird in DT. I'm hoping 7.1 comes soonish and has stuff to do to get people more distractions, like hoping for the field content and stuff where these issues are...less pronounced. And I also agree the "healer strike" (or any strike) is kind of dump (not to mention self-important). Me, I mostly play healer as I'm a healer main, though I've started doing Expert roulettes as RDM. The damage spike in normal content was a bit too spicy for my comfort level, so I'm inadvertently semi-striking by accident since I don't wanna wipe parties (and I'm still averaging about 1.5 raises, including of the healer, in my average Expert runs...)
      But hey, 24 mans soon, and I got drafted to do Savages for 2 hours on weekends with my FC's C static...so I heal in those. We got the M2S clear, so that was neat. We'll see what comes next. Love me some WHM and SGE. I do like SCH, but I know I can't get anywhere near full potential from it. AST is too much juggling for my smooth brain mental stack. XD
      I still contend the issue is that Healers are DPSers. I know it's not EVERYONE, but I feel like a lot of people that want to play healers want to heal, and doing your primary job through only oGCDs just feels...lackluster. I actually enjoy rolling HoTs like a Resto Druid or upkeeping buffs on party members like an EQ Bard. I wish we had something more like a Resto Druid. "That's WHM", no it's not. WHM has no oGCD HoTs and doesn't upkeep a 3 stack HoT on the main tank, just for an example. XD

      Oh, and I agreed with your video on WHM. Been saying forever Plenary should get the Pro-Shell effect on its buff. WHM needs a shorter duration party mit, and it blew my mind reading the comments on that Reddit thread about your 2 hour video of people insisting WHM was totally fine and THIN AIR - of all things, THIN AIR?!?! - was somehow a super powerful prog tool that made it worth WHM not having a party mit. Like what the hell kind of logic is THAT?? o.O

    My main is a WHM, but I stopped playing it cause no matter how many mistakes are made by others players. It’s the healers fault if things aren’t perfect. Players are very vocal about frustrations and mean to healers. It’s not fun to have to pick up everyone’s slack and be told you are not doing a good job

      @@alexmaganda5827 Bad take. Shield healers have plenty of oGCD shields/mitigations so in most situations they shouldn't NEED to GCD shield for you to survive a straightforward, single hit raidwide. A GCD shield costs 1000MP for SCH and 900 for SGE. We literally CANNOT be spamming that shit. Meanwhile, your Feints and Addles and all else are FREE and can be squeezed in wherever between your GCDs at no damage loss (which I'm mentioning not because "parse", but rather "let's not lose at 0.2% to enrage").

      @@LittleHobbit13 He didn't claim Shield Healers should spam GCD shields all the time (and a competent healer doesn't need to, unless he's being griefed by his co-healer). He said that Mitigation from Shield Healers is often lacking overall, and I agree. And it's even more frustrating, since Mitigation is mostly OGCDs, and not even those are used. It comes down to a lack of knowledge and care from many healers. You cannot leave a party not topped back up and/or shielded properly before the next raid wide comes up. And I've seen this happening quite often in this tier.

      @LittleHobbit13 День назад

      @@MilkAndSugar16 I understand what they were saying, and what you are saying, I just don't agree. At least in 1-3, there are actually very few places where you NEED GCD shields outside of a spreadlo so long as dps are applying their share of mitigations.
      What plenty of people have been chocking up to "not enough mitigations from shield healers" this tier, I -- as a shield healer -- am here to tell you it has more to do with dps mitigation. Why? Because it's part of my job to watch what mitigations are going up on various attacks, and all throughout this tier I've been seeing a distinct lack of them. It makes WAY more of a difference on the damage taken whether DPS are mitigating vs whether I toss out a Concitation. There have been fights where I have watched 3 raidwide hits in a row go out without any mitigation on them.

    In my opinion there's a drought because people in PF are assholes to healers.
    Missed mitigations and the party wipes to getting one shot? Well, just a healer problem.
    DPS just caused a chain reaction of deaths and then the healer is disoriented from fixing their mistakes? Healer problem.
    DPS play like greedy little shits, take extra damage, or tanks collecting damage downs like they're trading cards, and then the healer damage suffers fixing mistakes? Healer problem.
    You ask them to fix their mistakes and press their mitigations? This healer's an asshole. How dare you criticize me, I did nothing wrong!

  • @dbull620
    @dbull620 6 дней назад +16

    In a nutshell, coordinating mitigations and major healer CDs in a random group of 7 other players isn't a simple task yet healers are expected to just somehow pick up the slack while also doing optimal damage. Unsurprisingly most healers don't want to deal with that added stress so PF has a shortage.

    • @LittleHobbit13
      @LittleHobbit13 5 дней назад +3

      "Healers adjust" mentality is simply too strong in PF at times. I was legit kicked out of an M1S party because the lead kept insisting I should be GCD shielding for every mechanic and I refused to overtax all my resources and MP when the DPS could just be putting up mitigations like they're supposed to. Things hit way harder this tier, highlighting the absolute necessity of mitigation, and I literally *cannot* sustain my MP through a fight if I'm GCD shielding everything.
      Look, I love healing and I love a good healing challenge, but I'm also not about to carry a whole party just because people can't be bothered to put a single Feint or Addle up. I'm still out there in PF healing, but I also fully respect any healer who got fed up and quit the role.

    Healer complaints have been ignored for like 5 years now. And the few things we hear from the devs are “go heal ultimate” and that they removed the healer tester for being “too good”. And they accidentally make good design decisions like making sage dots stack, then remove them. Hopefully the 8.0 rework finally fixes things, because it’s not in a good state.

      The problem is there are 4 different ways to go, and they kind of sit in this limbo of none of them. Some players want to heal (with GCDs) not damage. Some want to have a robust damage rotation (and ideally damage parses/output that isn't nerfed compared to even Tanks), some want encounters to be harder, and some already find encounters overwhelming. So they...sit in the middle doing nothing, simultaneously making everyone upset at the same time.

Aren't people allowed to play whatever job they want? You know... agree with me or not; I just think the developers designed healers to the burden of other's mistakes. They know a lot of players aren't actually good with their toolkits. They set up healers to catch these problems because there are many players who sit at level max level not knowing how to play their job, nor they coordinate with their team. Its why things have been dumbed down for the healer role. The stress is already printed in due to player behavior. They don't give us extra dps buttons because Joe Sally over there is constantly getting hit by mechanics, they aren't using their mitigation, but they'll call you lazy if you don't use your full DPS kit in the midst of their mistakes. It breeds toxicity and even more pain for healers who just want to do their role properly. Being torn in two directions to dps or to heal is rampant because its not consistent with every random group they fall into. Its better to be safe than sorry, and that is how these developers think.
    A DPS might think "I don't want to think about support! I just want to DPS" is the same mentality of a healer who only wants to heal and not DPS. The problem goes both way where roles feel like their stance is pure, and not mixed. It does not get taught well in this game, and we have to rely on the community to push that forward. Still though; it doesn't reach many players out there regardless of the forums, RUclips videos, etc; because players don't check these sources. The problem with healers is just a mix of role understanding, developer fears, and the game not teaching squat about these small but effective tools.

    re: comments saying "its the healer strike!" its not. the healer strike was about how unnecessary healers felt.
    the current issue is about the huge stress difference between other roles and healers. every mistake made by *any player* falls upon the healers to fix. If the samurai greeds and takes the mechanic to the face as a result? Healer's gotta fix it. And that's on top of their normal contributions to mitigations and damage.
    The reason *I* don't play healer is because it's so incredibly, unimaginably stressful. I do not want to balance the health bars of eight players simultaneousy and have the deaths of others be blamed on me when it was their mistake in the first place.
    And I don't think that's fixable. Healer is simply the hardest role in the game by far because it's playing nurse to six idiots at all times.

    I feel like this conversation happens literally every single tier. There's no doubt that healers have its issues, but it always going to be an underplayed class due to the nature of it being a support. Every game that has this sort of trifecta of roles always has less people playing the support class, it's not unique to FFXIV. There's hardly any evidence I've seen numbers-wise outside of anecdotal statements, which is hard to take very seriously.
    Again, I'm not stating that Healer doesn't have problems, or that people shouldn't speak their mind about them, but things like Healer "shortages" and the such are largely unsubstantiated, and take away from the conversation about the fundamental issues of the role. I believe that if healer shortages were truly at such a level where it was severely hampering the formation of parties and the like, Square would have full data and would make it a priority to solve, as content literally cannot be done without them in DF due to forced compositions.

    Thanks for sharing your concerns openly. I haven't felt the issues or pf demands while shield healing or main tanking my way through this tier and the reclears, but I won't dismiss them. However, I don't agree that the lack of healers in pf has anything to do with a supposed strike. It was a common dry spot in past savages, one that got me to go to scholar on many an occasion.
    As far as healing in general goes, I personally do not want any additional dps options, I'd rather concentrate on darting my eyes between mechanics and health bars and doing weird max shield combos hopefully within the span of a cast bar. To each their own, that bit is obviously divisive. The only thing about healers that I'm honestly upset about is how fairy jank is still a thing.

    Cleared all savage with every role and healing is the hardest job by far.
    As Tank the only thing that change with every grp is just reprisal and it's really easy to adjust for the co-tank. Plus points if the ot use his mit on mt so healer don't even have to heal the mt this is very noticable in m4. Remember tanks if u use reprisal well u cover half of the fight and every mech of the boss.
    As dps just throw ur mit on cd and u can cover half the raidwides or difficult mech. Plus points if u use ur heal on cd so u can save some gcd from the healers.
    As healer even if u have ur cd charted out u have to deal with the 2 above not doing their job so most of the time the fight even if should be easy on paper can become hard or even a nightmare.

    DPS gear wise for melee while I do think having how many different sets we have is a bit much, I'd still say having different ones is good, but it should ideally be split in half. Currently its a bit awkward split but having MNK, SAM, NIN, VPR as one gear set with DRG and RPR as their own. SAM I do feel could be shifted to DRG and RPR gear though if we wanted an even split, though new classes could balance it out pretty easily. I do feel trying to limit it down to 1 set thematically though is quite a stretch and doesn't make as much sense given it feels like there is a distinct difference between the more 'agile' melee and the armored 'heavy' dps.

Its simple math, the game desperately needs more tank and healer jobs.

      Yep! This is what led the strike. By endwalker, healers were already at their best. Macrocosmos eats up a lot of damage by massively healing the party. White mages have Liturgy Bell that heals when taking continuous damage. Scholars and sage are capable of shielding massive damages. All the healers were already at their best. It was completely unnecessary to add anymore healing spells. And to add insult to injury, they did such a bad job that homogenization is at its peak right now. Scholars can become white mages for 20 seconds straight by pumping out pure healing. AST’s have so much mitigation they’re basically in line with barrier healers? It’s so bad.

    • @SubduedRadical
      @SubduedRadical 4 дня назад

      A lot of healers don't like DPS rotations. I do not. I'd quit the role if I had to manage health bars and a DPS rotation and become a SMN main or something. Their rotation is a pretty easy loop that doesn't require watching health bars. SOME do, so SOME healers (I'd say SCH for historical reasons and AST) should have them while some (WHM and SGE, probably, as the easier ones) should not. That way everyone can just play the one they want/enjoy best, either more DPS (SCH/AST) or less (WHM/SGE).
      And yes, I get that some people would say it should be SCH/SGE, but AST is NOT easy and we have the stupid pure/barrier thing unless they get rid of it. So it can't be both barrier healers, and SCH is both the more complex one and the one that used to have a more involved damage kit with more DoTs and some DPS CDs.

    • @SubduedRadical

    It is no surprise at this point.
    Like kudos to making stuff harder for DT, there were times I actually felt like a healer. I hope they do more of that
    But this really only accounts for a small part of content and being realistic, it would be an unreasonable job to retroactively change all content to make healers work harder.
    There is a solution we've LONG been asking for and they keep refusing.
    And that's having a good DPS kit.
    And if mixed with making content more challenging for healers going forward so they can get to make use of their healing kit feels like a good enough all round solution without asking for too much.
    And I cannot really see any other viable solution, because the boredom happens in the downtime and downtime is inevitable and the only way to meaningfully fill that downtime is to contribute towards DPS, because of how the game is designed. But ultimately, we want to be healers, I just accept how big of a job it would be to retroactively fix all content to make healers feel like healers, but DPS would mean giving us more to do for that content...because it's what we're doing already & it's dull AF...so let's just not make it dull AF.

    • @cutejustice
      @cutejustice 5 дней назад +1

      But it doesn’t even have to just be dps skills. They can add party buffs. Maybe even include some fun ways to make healing fun. Scholars could be able to convert shields to damage reflecting shields during downtime. Idk?
      Sage does need a better dps skills and to be extremely different from scholar. I should not be able to switch between kits and the only difference are skill icons. I need to not know wtf I’m doing going through each healer lol.

    • @sae2705
      @sae2705 5 дней назад

      @@cutejustice Party buffs would ultimately be to contribute to DPS and are still kinda DPS abilities, just indirect because it still counts towards rDPS, which is how performance is measured regardless of role. Granted it's different ways of approaching it and there are ways to make the contribution unique between jobs.
      And absolutely, I am down for that, I kind of see WHM as pure DPS, SCH as a DoT Mage (and now SMN has ditched that, perfect time for SCH to pick up that up again), SGE as heal-through-DPS and AST as a party buffer. But they could weave in more support contributions to DPS.
      Just sadly our abilities have no meaningful way of interacting with mechanics other than: heal, tank, damage and getting out of the way. And sadly kind of limits what we could contribute in downtime.

    • @SubduedRadical
      @SubduedRadical 4 дня назад

      I mean, the making things harder is why I don't do healer in random content anymore, only with my FC. Anything random I do on RDM (or sometimes SMN) now. So I'm striking from healer, by accident, in normal content/DF/PF, due to the content being made harder.
      I hate DPS kits and I enjoy more methodical (GCD) healing. Not the twitch reaction healing, mostly oGCD weaving and mitigation (with WHM not having any mit other than Temperance - good GOD does it need a 1 min party mit!!!!) thing.
      But no, more DPS rotation/buttons = bad. Do it on SCH and AST, but leave WHM and probably SGE alone. Likewise, everything being harder is driving more people out of the role since healers get blamed when things go bad, even if they can't do anything about it - e.g. WHM has Temperance on CD, the DPS don't use Feint/Addle, and everyone dies. Literally nothing you could do as WHM. And you get blamed and bitched at anyway somehow. The damage spike has brought out the worst in this community and it's getting really bad out there. It's why I only heal for my FC most of the time, or rarely in DF or a PF where most of the members are from my FC anyway.

      @sae2705 3 дня назад

      @@SubduedRadical I think the difficulty should match the content and why I think it needs to be a 2 part solution.
      But for a lot of content I've measured about 70-80% downtime, that's 70-80% of skills used that aren't healing. And if you're a WHM that's a Glare/Holy Spam, if SCH it's a Broil/Art of War spam. And that simply is dull as heck. Something more interesting needs to fill it. Regardless of whether you like DPS or not, that's what's going to fill it whether directly or indirectly.
      The alternative is to reduce that downtime, which seems to be what they're going for. And the downside of that is that there are going to be healers that struggle to keep up. However, for me it is nice to feel something, so I'm going to hold onto that until they give us a more rounded solution. Though I think there should remain a progressive difficulty curve as you go through content, because it helps you improve along the way (and I don't think we've had it done well since ARR/HW) and prepares you better for later content.
      The two part solution means they should keep the difficulty level appropriate for the content, which inevitably means there's going to be a lot of content when a lot of healers are going to have down time. It's already being filled with DPS, so all they need to do is make it interesting, which is the second part. It keeps the skill floor lower because DPS is not a requirement for the healer role and people aren't going to bat an eye if you're not optimising your DPS for 98% of content and the content they do, you'll be good enough to handle it. To me, that's the fair compromise, yes, I'd /rather/ feel like a healer in /all/ content, but I also accept there are healers of different capabilities who need to be accommodated for, so my only requirement is to not be bored outside of content where healing should be harder.
      But really, I think it should be all healers this applies to but the complexity could vary - my thinking WHM being a pure DPS wouldn't need a lot to break up the monotony of a glare spam, like taking ideas from level 50 BLM (obviously not the MP loss) could work as an example and without really complicating things. I don't think it should be split down the middle, because it wouldn't impact how a job heals and doesn't make it any less approachable. Else we end up back to where we were before Shadowbringers, when WHM was left behind the other healers asking for something more and instead of bringing WHM up they just brought the other healers down.
      Though with regards to methodic versus reactionary, WHM has always been the more reactive healer, your more methodic healers have been SCH and SGE because their kit is designed to be more forward thinking about incoming damage. AST sits somewhere in the middle. It's why WHM is the healiest healer that heals.

    Healing just kinda sucks in this game. you're expected to spam dps, never cast your main healing spells, waste your core emergency heals to get MP or do damage, or even worse.. play whm. WHM needs a major rework, as does healing at lower levels. either things are extremely boring and uneventful in 95% of content or you're constantly struggling to keep the same 3 people alive that get hit by every single mechanic over and over again. sure, it makes healing more engaging, but babysitting ends up leading to less attention to the constant dance of mechanics you need to avoid while rezzing every 40 seconds with no MP. all that work and you MIGHT get 1 comm lol.

    I'm gonna bring up the point that I brought up as a top 1 Disco Priest back when I played WoW. The skill ceiling when playing healer and when your groups perform well, making little to no mistakes, is actually quite low, probably the lowest out of any roles. As long as you can keep people alive, there's not much to do to increase your performance. I guess you can spam your only damage button more? but not really.
    But now, in a situation where your group underperforms, they use neither their personal mit nor their raidwide mit AND they happen to take unnecessary damage - your role as a healer suddenly becomes the hardest in the whole game. This shift in difficulty, that fully depends on other players performance, combined with the fact that all the blame goes on to healer every time something goes wrong is definitely the reason people just don't want to heal. It's both inconsistent and unsatisfying to play.
    This is also the reason that ever since coming to FFXIV, I am playing a tank instead of a healer, it's so much more fun.

    There's an abundance of healers on Materia, seems to be a lack of tanks more than anything else.
    Healers just don't want to PF for the same reason I don't, PF is a shit fest of the lowest denominator raiders.
    Yes, there are some gems amongst the shit, but the average PF raider is just not worth dealing with.
    Raid with static, ignore PF.

    Personally ive seen far more of a dps shortage in pf. Which sounds insane but literally seeing so many PFs with full tanks and full healers waiting on 1 or 2 dps for literally 30 minutes plus.
    That being said im still really sad that their "give us something" solution was to just give each healer a funny 2 minute addition. But the healing needed still isnt high enough to make healers even have fun. WHM is once again behind on dps while also being behind on literally getting anything given to it to make the job versatile. I cant even do proper healing as a WHM because my cohealer SHIELD HEALERS have too much pure healing and can literally just make it look like im only overhealing and barely doing anything. Im still surprised that WHM asylum didnt get given a mitigation to it but im not really surprised since the devs seem to hate WHM.
    I can solo heal anything by spamming out gcd heals, the challenge i get is figuring out how to do the minimum amount of heals without griefing my cohealer or my party lol. And besides a few mechanics, its incredibly easy to just...not heal things immediately and just let passive regens/ogcd usage heal in between mechanics. (Now tell that to other PF healers who panic if people arent topped immediately lol)

    Idk why you would blame healers by default, I just blame who ever makes the mistake may it be tank dps or healers, 9/10 times its the dps making mistakes in my experience and im dps main

    it's probably due to the healer strike

      The weird thing about the healer strike was that it was never supposed to actually be a true strike. It was supposed to drum up attention to the poor design of healers, and bring attention to the many players who used to love healing who just don't even bother these days. It might have even made some players realize how little fun they're actually having with the role. I know that I never even thought about how boring healing was until I tried a savage raid as Black Mage. That was back in P9S. and I haven't looked back since.

    this elitist attitude of "i don't play this type of content because i'm so good at this game that anything below savage/mythic/ultimate is BORING and MIND NUMBING" is getting really old, go become a billionaire irl and make the world a better place if you want a challenge.

    I'm an AST main rejoining my static late in the tier after dropping before clearing P12S due to burnout.
    The healer strike is one part healer playability not being addressed, nine parts healers being absolutely done getting shit on for other peoples mistakes. I can play perfectly, but a DPS fucks up and we wipe, but it's somehow my fucking fault. It's perfectly understandable that we healer mains are fed up with hard carrying ungabunga's through a tier.
    For example. I'm playing catchup with the static, right? They've got several weeks head start on me. I quick prog through 1 and 2 without too many issues. But 3 is where the PF hell starts. Most of the time, DPS can't activate help but meme the KB towers on BB.. If it's not BB, it's getting clipped by an avoidable aoe on Fusedown. If it's not Fusedown, it's going to the wrong fuse on Fusefield or derping into the death circle. Two wipes in, it's mine and my cohealers fault despite dumping my entire kit to try to stabilize for someone elses mistake.
    Healer is already the most mentally demanding role in hardmode content. I willingly play the role because the other roles are boring by comparison(And AST because it's the most complex and rewarding of the 4). That said, I don't need randoms giving me shit for their mistakes. So I will only join with members of the static, or alternates I trust, ideally with a minority of randoms. If members of my static aren't available, I'm just not gonna go in cuz I don't wanna deal with the shit.
    With regards to your erroneous Kaiten comment. PF randoms are single braincell idiots. Don't punish the good SAM's by taking away their feel-good toy because PF randoms don't know how to fucking weave. I mained SAM in ShB, cleared E12S on it. Give me back my what made the job fun.

    At the casual level, I've been through roulettes recently carried normal runs and gotten almost no comms for the past two weeks. My damage has gone down a lot because I have healed more recently to make up for carrying mechanic mistakes and people dying, which is fine, but it's not motivating to keep up with good gameplay to dip into harder content. Also, naturally, people go back to school and work a lot I imagine people are busy doing other things but when you are tired in a day squeezing 2hrs into a game that isn't motivating it becomes a chore in a demanding role until more content comes out.

    ow can add to this, gets better.
    if dps does fuck up a mechanic causing a wipe, and you point that out as healer, they kick you.
    had this in E10S for first time, sam messes up placement of clones, he kills me with it (and messes up tower so kills party)
    then group kicked me when I pointed that out after being asked why I died.
    that why now I only heal for my static and PF can go suck it.
