Sadly, Viking Saturn aborts Porto because of high winds. Look at the port map in the video and it is obvious why Leixoes Port is dicey under the best of circumstances. Big sigh!! We now have three sea days in a row. Please don't forget to Subscribe, Share and Like. Thanks. April 8, 2024
I'm sorry you didn't get to Porto. Everyone seems to love it. I'm actually looking at an Ama cruise of the Douro for 2026 so I'll be very interested to watch your videos of that upcoming trip.
Definitely watch! the series after this one because I am on that cruise right now. Wasn’t thrilled with first night’s dinner (last night, pretty bad) but had a WONDERFUL lunch. Super yum.

My wife's sister and brother in law took the Viking Douro cruise with Viking last month. They came to Lisbon before the cruise and we spent a lovely 4 days with them in Lisbon. I hadn't been to Portugal since 1990 when I went with a Portuguese friend I was very happy with the tri last month. Will return but most likely to discover Porto.

I did a comparison, Warren, on the Seine Paris cruise with Joel last year. His opinion and mine. But I will redo on this trip. And, no, fresh bread is further down on the breakfast buffet and I am busy snarfing down the excellent varieties of bread rolls 😂
A cruise up the Douro with AMA? Won't this be like your fourth cruise with them? Looking forward to that one as it seems are others. Hope the PS palace is now stocked with furniture and whatever you bought for it on this cruise. Best from over the hills to your west.
😂 This is my 3rd Ama. There are 26 “boats” on the Douro during season which this is now. I am still merrily buying, David, primarily original Art and small “stuff” in both Bilbao and Porto. Best to you from the East! 💕
Here we go again…..😂 not surprising, and such a gem of a destination. Had a wonderful few days in Porto a couple of years ago.
Pure luck that Porto is where I am right now. So sorry my sister-in-law didn’t get to share it; she would have loved it!
The Douro is excellent, so glad you will get to see Porto and the whole upriver area. I love Port wine but don't drink it much.
To add to all my other replies on Porto! I am on the AMA Douro cruise right now. I think Port wine is going to grow on me…😂
Hi Sheila, the same thing always happens to me when I take a cruise. I often wonder if they do it because having an extra sea day means people will spend more on the ship, like in the spa!
Spending a day in the spa isn’t all bad 😂 Better than spending day in cabin reading or drinking (guess which I prefer). Best to you and thanks for your time to view and comment. 😍

I was just looking yesterday at a Viking river cruise from Portugal. I'm amazed at how far out people book their cruises. There are several cruises we had looked at that we passed on because the rooms we wanted were already spoken for.
I am on an AMA Waterway Douro cruise even as my fingers type. Have been told that this cruise is one of the most popular river cruises with more ships joining in each year!
