Thank you for decoding something that could take years to learn and $100's of dollars in mistakes! Your no BS videos are putting me way ahead of competitors, and theres nothing like scooping up gems right behind other resellers!
This comment makes my day. Thank you for taking the time to comment. You may be surprised how much these types of comments help people making videos like this.
The sell thru rates in the video seemed very low, I comped out several on my phone and for example for 527 I get 4800 listed , 3400 sold. Which would be around 70% sell thru rather than in your video you have 21%. Same goes for any other cuts I am researching I’m not sure if that’s just me or what
You have to be specific. If you want the STR for modern non vintage Levi's you have to exclude vintage from your results. Vintage Levi's inflate the STR for modern Levi's in a way that really gives you a bad idea of how much demand there is. I explained this in the video. Thanks for watching!
@@L.RoweFischer Another example would be if I search for (levis 569 jeans mens vintage) I get 689 listed and 485 sold which is around 70% STR but in your video you have the STR at 28%. It’s a similar story for most styles like this if I search. I’m not saying I’m definitely right , but it does seem very abnormal that you have most all of the cuts between 15-30% sell thru when you’ve even said a lot of them usually sell quick for you.
@@KevinDurantisnot On pc the results are incorrect unless you sort by lowest price, this has been a problem for over 6 months. You're correct all the sell thrus are much much higher.
Thanks for the great videos!!! I always gain some new knowledge from watching them and I can't help but laugh out loud by a lot of your comments. Great work!
Unbelievably helpful, your content is so simplified and easy to follow. New sellers would be foolish to not absorb this info and apply it. Spent the past year and a half learning a lot of this naturally in my business and the numbers dont lie, agreed with you on almost every point. Its easy to pass on levis (especially modern) when starting out but there is a TON of money to be made with them. Thank you for the content as always, hope you’re well.
Thanks for the support. Modern Levi's are a goldmine if you can get them cheap, or new with tags. Here in Phoenix, it is extremely difficult to profitably flip modern Levi's. The truth is, with my jeans prices here, I tend to pass on most Levi's unless I know they are vintage since I will usually be spending over 15 bucks for them. There is no meat on the bone if you pay 15 for used modern levis.
Absolutely. 15 is way too much, id pass too. By me a lot of thrifts have been pricing levis at 9.99 and even at that price its a stretch. Most times i half to wait for half off days to grab them. But at some thrifts i still get them from 5-7 dollars even off new racks, and for the good models theyre no brainers for me, especially since other resellers around here always pass on them.
Recently I found a pair of 511 commuter jeans. They are green on one inside pocket, have a reinforced bottom(like where you sit), and have a reflective tape on the inside like where a selvedge seam would be. They were made for commuting on a bicycle for people in the city I guess.
Glad you found it helpful! I missed a few things like brown tabs, which are the budget model levis that came out in the 80s-90s and a few other offshoots. There are so many Levi's, thanks for the kind words it was hard and missed a bunch but I did my best.
Talking about orange tabs looking brown, there are brown tabs as well. They are the 90s precursor to the Signatures/Denizens. Also surprised on no mention of Engineered Jeans, but overall wonderful video.
There are so many Levi's. I tried to cover the most likely ones people will encounter. Engineered is not a line that comes up much. I did not know about brown tabs, had no idea. You are right they are the precursor to the Levi's Strauss Sig line. I have seen them many times but just thought it was discolored orange tag because the time line intersects. Thanks for the comment now I know!
I would think so, I should look into that. Personally, I don't like stretch jeans at all. I have only 2 pair. It makes them weak and I hate saggy back pockets.
Loved this video, thank you for sharing! Also btw I died laughing at the commentary at the end towards the pictures posing the jeans with the boots. Hysterical. Appreciate you!
Thanks again for all the videos you make. I know it takes you probably a lot of time to make and is tough to, but you have been the #1 reason for me being successful as a reseller :)
Thanks for the support, I appreciate it. I have been considering a members only thing where I am not restrained and show all my numbers and it's more of a teaching thing, but also a bit of fun. My channel is pretty tame but I am definitely not haha.
I did not know about the irregular thing. I take your point, they get leftovers and stuff, not everything. I am sure it has a significant effect on resale value still.
I am partial to the 501s and the 559 is nice too. I like the 501 probably because it was the first jeans I ever had that I loved so much I wore them to nothing.
I learned something interesting about sizes recently which seems to apply to any jeans brand. If you find 36 inseams and 33 inch waist or smaller the STR jumps way up.
This is the video I needed. Recently spent hundreds on LVC Levis, nearly all selvedge. They're all brand new, but with the red tab pulled off, retail tags pulled off and permanent marker across the care labels. They're donated to the charity by levis, but levis want them "debranded" as a condition of donation. I'm hoping the fact they're brand new selvedge by levis will carry sales irrespective of the fact the red tab is gone.
Jeans are something I don’t understand 😂, half the time they’re missing the style labels on them too. You’ll see a pair of Levi and I have no idea what to call it in my title. Unless it’s NWT and has everything on it. Unless I see name brand pants that look great that are somehow at a price you don’t even have to bother looking up I don’t grab it. So I rarely buy pants but the ones I do sell fast.
It just comes with experience. Pants were intimidating to me too, but now I almost like them better than shirts, there is much less competition for pants. Jeans are the exception, there are lots of jeans sellers, but most of them have very little knowledge so it doesn't matter too much, they leave all the good stuff behind.
I’ve picked up the 511 commuter jeans. They have different stitching in the butt. (I guess for riding a bike) They have the reflective stripe on the inside. They don’t sell for me at 28.99. I pass them up now.
I thrift a levis a bunch.. and I actually look for the Commuter Pro 511 with the reflective "selvedge" tape, one green pocket on the inside and an extra loop on the waist (not belt loop).. I own two personal pair (thrifted) , one beige and the other a dark blue.. they are super comfy and lots of crotch space.. when I first started spotting them a few years ago they were selling for $70 each so I've been keeping my eye out for them.. didn't know they were discontinued.. Thanks for the info.
a lot of sellers tank the market needlessly on jeans. its a race to the bottom using ross prices as logic. if they want those jeans at ross brand new then they should go buy those jeans at ross. its not the same. to further my point... modern jeans literally replicate the look of worn jeans and do a poor job of it. the new vs old logic is like an episode of the twilight zone. theress a lot more training the buyer going on than sellers choose to believe.
Not sure I totally follow, but I may understand what you mean. The market is full of tons of modern Levi's, so they are worth less than vintage, which are far less plentiful and have way more intrinsic value, and character. The buyers looking for modern Levi's on eBay will pay as little as possible and the sellers make that very easy. I think that's what you mean by training the buyer, but I just call that a bad market to participate in, so I move on to something with better demand and less supply (sell through rate). Not sure I made this clear in the video but I hardly ever buy modern Levi's unless I get them dirt cheap or they are Levi's workwear, or new with tags. But I sell a sh*t ton of vintage Levi's.
Just wanted to let you know your checking sell-thru rate a bit incorrectly. Over last 6m to year ebay has been less accurate with results on pc (not sure about phone) , you have to sort by lowest price to filter out bad results that are similar but not what you typed. So all your sell thru rates are much much higher like double or triple in many cases.
I avoid this by using advanced search. I don't check STR on mobile for my videos. For example, in this Levi's video I removed the term vintage from all the results when I was looking at modern Levi's, and I forced the results to include only vintage jeans in my vintage jeans searches by using quotes. I actually explained this in the video. If you search Levi's 517 men, the actives and solds are both much higher than if you search Levi's 517 men -vintage -VTG and are only searching the men's jeans category. The way I do it is as accurate as you can get with the eBay website. When you say you have to sort by lowest price to filter out bad results, that does not do anything to numbers in the search results. For example if there are 1500 results for your search term, but you sort by lowest price, the data still shows 1500 results you just see the lowest priced ones first. I agree the search results are less accurate when searching for active listings than they need to be, this is so Ebay can show you some items very close to your search, but they will also show you some that they think you want to see, or that are paying to be seen (like ads). The sold listings are different, though. They show fairly accurately how many items have sold based on your search terms. When coming up with sell though rates I am pretty careful to use short concise search terms and the advanced search function on eBay.com from a PC. Also, use categories to further eliminate more irrelevant items. Clothing/Men/Jeans for example. It will never be 100% accurate because we are dealing with an algorithm programmed by a team of people who are not perfect, but I am pretty sure I am not doing it wrong.
@@L.RoweFischer It doesn't make sense but sorting by lowest does change the amount and removes in the inaccurate listings. Try it yourself you'll see what I mean. I sell like 30 a day so kinda caught it when it first happened last year. Its basically how you remove their nonsense results and get to the real sell-thru, but the -vintage or -anything I wasn't aware of so thats cool to know and also helps get a more accurate number.
Pretty sure I am a gentleman. At least that's what my cats say. I don't care about anyone else's opinion. Thanks for watching and I am glad you are here!
I actually agree with the sentiment. Modern Levi's are not great pickups unless they are super cheap and you find some 568 or double knees or new with tags. Vintage Levi's are still great, worth a lot more than fifteen cents. But I actually don't love most Levi's either.
