An Interview with Ann Cleeves

A short film created especially for Investigating Detectives - an exhibition by us that looks at the best known on-screen detectives, studies crime-busting techniques and examines the enduring appeal of detective stories, from classic novels to present day television series and everything in between.
Ann discussed her life as an author and creator of Vera as well as how she takes inspiration from where she lives in the North East of England. She also discusses her passion for all things crime fiction.

What an amazing woman! I love her writing and love the tv series of both Vera and Shetland. Thank you, Ann Cleeves, for all the enjoyment you have given me. And you’re quite right as far as endings go. I like the baddy to be caught and the case put to rest, especially in these uncertain Covid times when we don’t know what’s around the corner.
