My family and I had never played a game like this before - although we liked it A LOT, the rules were too much for us to get a good grip on and we wound up quitting it. It's been sitting on the shelf for a while, but we all enjoyed the game and I'm wandering if I should bring it out again. The real key to it is the way it allows for storytelling. It isn't necessarily fun in the moment, but seeing my father walk into a room full of monsters, immediately lighting a stick of dynamite and blowing everything up (himself included - he knew he had enough HP to survive so he just tanked the hit) was very funny. Or my sister getting frozen in fear for an entire session, locked away in a side room where nothing could hurt her but leaving her unable to do anything. It's a game of strong moments, but too much cross-referencing and rule searching for people not used to the genre.
Sounds like you were having fun even though the rules ware a downer. Try it again. It is a win situation, either your feelings stay the same or you get it and stay with it. Enjoy. Thanks for watching and the feedback.

AH LCG is such a great game, but be warned: it is a money sink if you get deep into it

And definitely recommend going to to characters as soon as you feel comfortable with it, it’s a much better game with two complimentary investigators
