Grease is just perfection. Every song is superb. The chemistry between the whole cast is electric. Especially John & Olivia. The story is simple but cute. Its just one of those nostalgic films that never gets old. Its set in the 50s but was made 1978 so its always been retro. The 50s style is so classic it never looks bad.
The school principal is played by Eve Arden, who portrayed a high school teacher in a 1950's tv show "Our Miss Brooks". Not only was she in this movie, she also played the school principal in the 2016 "live" version of Grease. She is amazing.
Eve Arden was quite beautiful in her younger Hollywood days/ There is another actress in Grease who was fairly popular in films in the 1930s. Her name was Joan Blondell, who was just gorgeous.
They had smoking areas in high schools back in the 70's for kids that wanted to smoke believe it or not cause i was a student at that time. It was outside of course.
This is true. My uncle loves to talk about how he used to get drunk every weekend before he turned 18 but when it became legal he suddenly stopped getting drunk. Probably a childhood illness.
-And when I was in high school, (in the mid-80's) not only 'could you smoke almost anywhere... My high-school had a student's "smoking lounge", (outdoors, admittedly, but we all just smoked at the end of any wing we were in, anyway. -Along with teachers!)
I still remember after this came out, Vicki Jacobsen directed our (Jr. High?) choir in a medley and dance number featuring Grease songs. I recall wearing a jean jacket and mirror shades when we performed. (I didn't own any leather jacket, but it was the coolest thing I owned.) I think we performed in the school Multipuropse / Lunch Room for the elementary students, but it's been a long time so I may be a little fuzzy on the details. Still very thankful for Mr. & Mrs. Jacobsen for the musical, theater, mass media & film experiences they brought into our school and community.
"Even the feel good music is 'feel good music'", might the best interpretation I've ever heard of the music of that era. No sarcasm. This was a real FUN watch.
Great reaction! Some other nostalgic movies from this time are American Graffiti and Rocky, and in the 80s there are a slew of such good films like The Karate Kid, Back To the Future, and Footloose.
9:00 Smoking indoors used to be *very* common. It was honestly kind of gross, because walls and ceilings built up layers of nicotine. I started smoking at 11, in the late 70s. Stores weren’t supposed to sell cigarettes to minors, but we’d just say we were buying them for our parents. Nobody cared.
Rizzo was bitter with Sandy because she and Danny used to date but Danny was a big player until he met Sandy and likely dumped Rizzo and she wanted to get even which is why she set Sandy up to meet Danny knowing how he would react. Also, she did learn her learn her lesson at the end because when Kenickie tells her he will make an honest woman out of her, he means marriage and these two were a couple they just had a fallen out and were too proud to admit their feelings for each other until the end.
rizzo never dated danny , i think the story is that danny never respected rizzo bc of her reputation, like in the car she says eat your heart out , danny says sloppy second aint my style , meaning you go around with many boys and also she is dating kenickie , and the rules in a group don't go date your boys ex girlfriend , and most viewers assuming that comes from she saying ancient history bc the tried to shoot her shot but got rejected, that why she did the pep rally , she knows the bad boy persona , but danny and cha cha they dated , clear as day
@@poisonivymathers It was hinted that they had a fling in the past, which is why Rizzo set Danny up to make himself look bad in front of Sandy possibly because he rejected her afterwards and she wanted more than he did. Danny was such a womanizer before he met Sandy and also went with a lot of girls including Cha-Cha, so it's not far-fetched that he would have a casual fling with Rizzo who probably wanted more of relationship. He tells her that sloppy seconds isn't my style because he knows that she set him up and wanted to hurt her.
Was born in 67. Everyone smoked back then. Parents didn't care. Was a different world. Danny was the leader of the t-birds Rizzo was the leader of the pink ladies
It was a joy watching both of you reacting to this movie. I couldn't stop laughing while the pretty lady in the back ground was clowning with the other fine one during the grease lightning song. I'd watch a movie with you two anytime ♥️😁👍
I saw GREASE when it was first in the Movie Theaters back in the late '70s. I have seen it so many times over the years: every time it's on TV which is usually about twice a month, every time it comes back into the theaters, and especially the "sing-a-longs" where the audience sings along with it and do dance moves from your seat, tons of FUN!! I own the DVD, it just never gets old I LOVE it. I would suggest "HAIRSPRAY" but get the version with JOHN TRAVOLTA and Christopher Walken starring in it. You will LOVE it. John Travolta plays Tracy Turnblad's MOTHER! Tracy is the main character, a high school student. Traditionally since the Broadway show, Tracy's mother is ALWAYS PLAYED BY A MAN IN DRAG. Travolta has to wear a fat suit under his clothes because the mother is always a heavy woman. You should see how he dances and sings in all that...he is TERRIFIC in it. It takes place in Baltimore in 1962, the year I was 15 years old. I have to tell you that all the "costumes" are absolutely on point for 1962, I felt like I was watching me and my classmates back in 1962. Several dresses were IDENTICAL to a few I had at that time. It's another musical. But there are two versions of Hairspray, the original one is a bit different with different songs. It's not as good as the more recent one with JOHN TRAVOLTA. I forgot QUEEN LATIFA is also in it. ANOTHER great musical is "BYE BYE BIRDIE" with ANN MARGARET, DICK VAN DYKE, JANET LEIGH and PAUL LYNDE. It also was originally a Broadway Musical and then made into a movie and released in 1963, I saw it when my World Affairs Club in high school took a trip to NYC. We went to Radio City Music Hall to see the movie BYE BYE BIRDIE, and then the ROCKETTES came on with their show, after the movie was finished. "BYE BYE BIRDIE" takes place in what was the "present day" at the time, so that means 1963. Those are two that are similar to Grease. But there are many movie musicals that started on Broadway over the years . EVERY ONE OF them are excellent! You wouldn't go wrong with any of them. I really enjoyed your reaction!!
Speed Racer is the Japanese animated TV series from the 60s and was eventually made into an American movie in the early 00s.
