I was in jr. high and stayed home from school the day this concert showed on Lifetime. And then I stayed home many days after that to watch the VHS recording I made. Hee! Makes me cry a little how much I loved and love Tori. Forever and ever and ever.
My parents knew I loved Tori; they heard me play her a lot in the house but that's about it. Back in 2004 i was camping in Byron Bay and my music-lover father, who never talks on the phone, CALLED ME to tell me he'd just seen a Tori concert on TV and it was "best concert I ever see in twenty year!" (he's a European immigrant 😊) Turns out it was this very show, albeit the edited version (about half the length, but still) ... He said he'd never seen someone play the piano so passionately! He even had his favourites lol: Muhammad (my jam also 🤘), Talula and Winter. We saw her together in '09 and we both loved it ❤ (Dad loved Flying Dutchman 😊)
The way she moves/changes her facial expressions, the way she sings, and her style of playing piano are all connected to each other and complement one another in this performance especially. It reminds me of the silver string she talks about in the Pele EPK video. She's at her very best here.
Fuck this is just pure artistry in music... stunning compositions and sublime delivery, she channels her emotions as though she is flying through other worlds!
Tori's performances were so raw during this period that they can make one feel like they've boarded an emotional roller coaster. But for those on a receptive wavelength it's often a cathartic and captivating ride. The show ebbs and flows between pieces that serve more as backdrops to the emotions being conveyed - often to brilliantly moving effect - and moments where the songs themselves take center stage in alternating bursts of fiery passion, nuance, disciplined restraint, and wild abandon. Very few performers who sit behind the keys for their entire performance are able to pack it with as much breadth, depth and excitement. Tori pulls it off and makes it seem as natural as breathing. Watching this performance on VHS in the 90's is what made me a fan. Thanks for sharing it!
+sonicboy19 I saw tori once at the greek theature and she litteraly looked like a homeless woman. her hair was so ratty it would take hours to fix it! And she was wearing a freaking moomoo! AND YOU KNOW WHAT! Conscerned as I was for her well being; I fucking loved it! TORI IS NUTS AND I LOVE THAT!

Tool brought me here ... Never have I seen Maynard James Keenen eagerly subordinate himself to another talent on the same stage like he has done here with Tori. Her talent is humbling. You can see it on his face
This is, by far, the greatest performance in the history of contemporary music, and it's not close. I cannot fathom any argument to the contrary. I am just astounded that she can expend that kind of emotional energy while preforming at such a high level. Thanks for taking on all of our suffering, Tori
Brian Nuckols Totally agree, she is amazing with her music and her out of this world live perfomances.. And now we are in 2018 and she don't have (my point of view) the recognition that she decerves.
Mediocre piano "playing" and downright terrible harpsichord playing makes her one of the all-time WORST musicians ever promoted by the music industry. Her laughably bad lyrics and boring pop tunes are the reason she couldn't make it at a music conservatory. Her lack of talent is clearly on display in this horrid performance.
@@jeneraljax29 Look it up. She did not have the talent to play classical music, she's still bitter about it and it shows in recent interviews. The harpsichord "playing" is terribly repetitive and further displays her lack of talent. It's easy to get caught up in dramatic displays of emotionalism, but the fact is Myra has always been a mediocre keyboardist who writes laughably bad lyrics.
I pray Tori re-issues this either on DVD or digitally. I have a tired old VHS. Thank you for preserving this astonishing concert on RUclips. It is incredible.

from France.
Tori Amos is truly a Cultural Exception.
I am not a great music specialist, but I am not far from thinking that this concert in New York is the greatest musical and emotional event that music has ever offered us.
" On ne mesure pas les qualités d'un maitre à la quantité de son audience ",
j'ai toujours pensé que Tori Amos a été et continue à être sous estimée; pour moi Tori Amos est L’Everest de l'Art et de la Musique et la plus grande pianiste chanteuse de tous les temps.
"The quality of a master is not measured by the quantity of his audience",
I have always thought that Tori Amos has been and continues to be underestimated; for me Tori Amos is L'Everest de l'Art et de la Musique and the greatest singer pianist of all time.
