  • 6:35 mark starts the call to the employee to confront the situation.
    An employee has been dishonest through his services and didn't install all of the parts I had ordered for a customer. Instead, he replaced one part and kept the rest for himself. Unbelieveable at this stage of building my company. What a hard realilty to come to.

    Well done Jesse! You handled the situation like a BOSS! You possess the leadership skills necessary to run a company and your frustration is understandable. Love all aspects and angles of your journey! Stay safe, brother!

      Thank you, sir. Definitely frustrating. And I do have to fire the guy. A similar situation occurred back in the past when we were co-workers for a bigger company. I looked past it and figured on a personal basis he wouldn't do it. Guess I was wrong and being in the early stages that I am, I just can't build a solid foundation on that kind of stuff. So, it's over for him. Thanks for the engagement. Be blessed my friend.

    Jesse, I’ve been a manager for a long time. You handled it extremely well. Put the anger and disappointment aside and let him show himself. Unfortunately brother it will happen again. You learn from it and move on. Outstanding video btw, putting yourself out there like that takes courage, you did a good job. Be proud of yourself and move onward and upward!

      I wasn't going to put something personal like that on my channel, but I got to thinking, I said I would document my journey and that happens to be a part of that journey right now so, LOAD IT TO RUclips, I thought! lol
      No, it is definitely upsetting. But it is what it is now. Gotta say goodbye and open the door for someone else to have the opportunity to ride shotgun with me. Thanks brother!

    Be strait up about your expectations. I always tell my techs "Do what you're paid to do. If there is a call back its all on your dime and I WILL follow up to assure the job was done correctly."

    Hopefully the workload isn’t such that he feels pressured to cut corners to try and get everything done but it doesn’t sound to be the case here.

    I know this is a late comment, but 100% it's from not using the grease. I've been doing this biz 24 years, and I've seen it a bunch of times. If you don't put the white grease, you'll be back in a week guaranteed!

      Thank you for that 24 year experience heads up. But its also from not putting all the parts on. I do agree though. I went back and did it all right and put the grease on everything…the shaft, sprocket, everything and its been several months now and the guy has since reached out saying its running great! Thanks for the help sir!

      While it's probably best to replace the other interior gears, usually the worm gear is made of a hard plastic, while the sprocket is made of nylon, which is a softer material. If gears are made of the same materials, their profiles will often change as they wear, necessitating replacing gears in pairs. However if one is significantly harder than the other, the softer material will wear down while the harder will not change, which is why the worm gear will often show no sign of wear while the sprocket will be obliterated; the excessive wear on the sprocket was likely the result of friction between the gears primarily due to a the lack of lubrication. IOW, in this case not replacing the worm gear would probably not prematurely wear the sprocket, however the plastic worm gear can become brittle over time and crack, so if your kit has a worm gear it's certainly best to replace it on general principle, as it will result in a higher quality repair.

    Late to the party, first I really admire that you are in business for yourself. You seem to have your head screwed on straight and are very concerned with your reputation and doing quality work and that will take you far. In regards to handling employees, remember you are their boss, not their friend; that doesn't mean you can't be friendly with them, but you are first and foremost their boss. People tend to live up to your expectations. More than once you sounded like you were trying to mitigate hie poor service, don't do that. The first thing I would do is determine why he performed poorly; was this a matter of poor training or was he in a hurry. IOW, just tell him what you discovered and ask him what happened. If he actually stole from you or was lying to you, than you have a much bigger problem than poor performance. As an employer you need to clearly explain your expectations and if an employee fails to meet expectations and it is not a training issue, they need to be replaced. You would kick yourself if after all your hard work your reputation was ruined because you retained an employee that did inferior work. One more thing, if an employee will steal from you, he will likely steal from your customers also.

    Think door being heavy is causing gears to be under stress.. balance door is pretty important operators should just assist door not carry the weight …

    • @dapperdudesgarage
      @dapperdudesgarage  Год назад

      That’s exactly what’s going on. The tech was supposed to balance the door, as was talked about in the video. That was one of the first obvious concerns we addressed. So not only did we’re have an issue with the gears, but the tech left with the door balanced so poorly.

      I don't usually do those unless the right customer pops up. Maybe I could try to sell one to a customer. But, in all my years of doing this I've only had a few inquiries about screen doors. If I come across the situation. I will look u up and notify you of the soon coming video.
