The manga version of this duel is so much better than the anime, especially as it does not use that useless card that shouldn't have needed to exist to begin with. Especially because it is Yugi who walks over to Kaiba to give him Slifer, and then uses Exchange when he returns to his side, now forcing Kaiba to walk over to him.

As someone else in the comments said, Kaiba's decision making have a lot to do with his personality and flaw rather than being dumb.
For example, Kaiba not killing Yugi's first Monster card right away and instead chose to set up a fancier play because he prefer to overwhelm and crush his rival rather than winning on technicality.
And forgive me if I misremembering this part since it been ages now, but the last turn where Kaiba not resurrecting Obelisk and instead chose the Blue-eyes is literally a major plot point later on where he faced off against Ishizu where he chose Bue-eyes over Obelisk to make the winning play. If this man can find a way to use his past-life waifu in a play, he gonna god damn take it.

The amount of times Shaver could have saved Kaiba if he set it right away is astounding. I can't tell if some of his many misplays might be something about pride (beating Yugi "his way") or just having to write a Yugi victory. This duel is definitely shorter without all the cut-aways, flashbacks, and Millinium item interference.
Definitely liking this (small) Yugioh wave. Not sure if you see/take suggestions but " When A Filler Arc is Actually Good | Yu-Gi-Oh!" might be worth a what. A good look at Waking the Dragons.

I actually really like the idea of attacks being able to miss if the targeted monster were to do things like leave the field, or even swap spaces. It would mean that the attacks can't be cancelled and whatever card replaces that spot when the attack is made would get attacked.
Feels like most of the useless cards and plays that wouldn't change much of anything would have more of a purpose, on top of needing to use your head to not mistakenly throw in front a weaker monster if you're going to use something like a quick effect Fusion or I:P.

To be fair, all of Kaoba bad plays were more of a character flaw then plot.
This show how much Kaoba wanted to win in a specific way to destroy Yugi pride and reclaim his title of best again.

as well as him wanting to bury the past. He wants to win with his Blue Eyes, not the god cards, because he wants to bury the whole 'Egyptian heritage' stuff, along with his past at the orphanage and his hell of a childhood under Gozuboro.
He'd never use the God Card to win because that would mean 'accepting' the past he's trying to get away from.

And just imagine if Kaiba were to have ever run into a Fallen of Albaz player, that would instantly screw over pretty much any strategy of his that involved any of his dragons. I mean, just imagine Kaiba managing to get his Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon out on the first turn and being all smug, only for his opponent to simply summon Fallen of Albaz and steal his dragon to bring out one of their own (and IIRC, if Albaz were used with BEUD to bring out Titaniklad, then Titaniklad's effect would bump it's ATK all the way up to 4000, thus making it just as strong as Obelisk). Kaiba would have absolutely freaked out in a case like that where his opponent was able to essentially turn his strongest dragon against him like it was nothing.

@@gamester512Oh please, Kaiba would just print cards to invalidate Albaz.

    • @gamester512
      @gamester512 Год назад

@@yumin_pluto558 No, he wouldn't. Kaiba doesn't print the cards. Industrial Illusions, the company owned by *PEGASUS* does. And I think we all know that Pegasus would never agree to such a demand from Kaiba.
Besides, pre-mind crush Kaiba might have tried something like that, but post mind crush Kaiba actually had a sense of honor and wouldn't resort to such cowardly tactics. He'd simply look for new tactics to legitimately counteract Albaz.

I might be wrong (I'm probably wrong), but the reason for both not using XYZ - Dragon Cannon's skill and it counting as three fusion material monsters is that he was using Y - Dragon Head and Z - Metal Tank as union monsters instead of using contact fusion.

Always nice to go back to the simpler times when fusion monsters were the bleeding edge of the Yugioh arms race and people were constantly finding ways to play, shut down, or otherwise leverage the Egyptian God Cards. Then we go into GX, we crack out on fusion monsters and archetypal gimmick decks, and my girl Yubel triggered my bisexual awakening and my love of crazy women.

@@dr.steelworth5775a lot of the time it is because duels are just anime fights with specific rules. Aka the moves they play are based on their personalities and ideals. For example sacrificing Blue-Eyes for Obelisk like TGSAnime suggested is something Kaaba would never do, he values Blue-Eyes too much.

Set trap cards exist in a quantum superposition where it might be any card until you attack, in which case the superposition will collapse into mirror force. If you don't attack, it's probably lucky punch or some shit.

@Kip Reacts: Since all spell card can be used like quick play because of spell sanctuary, you still can't activated a card while a card is resolving, so the card was only done resolving when kaiba return to his spot. The soul exchange that kaiba got is not soul excnage it just have the image of soul exchange since back then that was the only image available, and also since soul crossing did not exist as a real life card yet, so if they ever remaster the entire series they would change it to the proper image, so instead of having the image of soul exange it would have the image of obelisk the tourmentor tributing opponent monster .

Duel monsters in the past: complex strategies that span a possible deck long duel.
Duel monsters today: first turn summon your entire deck. If you don't win turn 1, you are considered weak.

@Kip reacts: In the real life version of sword of reveling light in goat format it was 3 of the opponent stanbyphase, but in the modern yugioh it is 4th opponent turn and they receive the card during their own stanbyphase. Since the goat format version count stanbyphase you can't speed it up with pyro clock of destiny, if it did exist at that time, however since in modern yugioh it count turn you can speed it up with pyro clock of destiny.

Can I just say, for as much as I liked this duel, it went on for way too long. I went back and counted the episodes, and it took 6 episodes to conclude. Meanwhile, the final duel between Yugi and Marik took 5. I'm kind of glad they reduced the episodes of duels like these in later series, because this got exhausting to watch.
