Happy! My brother and I caught our first Stones show October 1965 (“Get Off My Cloud”). Saw them again July 1966 (“Paint it Black”), in both concerts they primarily played Gibson Firebirds, and Epiphones, with Fender Showman amps (Bill had a Vox Foundation amp). It’s still strange to see them with Fender guitars. This comes from a Fender bass player.

@@chasbodaniels1744 Hey man, I neglected to mention catching the Stones in November 1969, a few days prior to the MSG show, at the Baltimore Civic. This was the first Stones show that didn’t feature screaming chicks (apologies to females, one and all, but that’s the way it was) drowning out the band. It was incredible to hear Charlie miked, and the Stones with a proper PA system. First tour for Mick Taylor, also. In the spring of 1969, I saw MT playing with the Bluesbreakers at the Whiskey a go go, in which he wore a tan corderoy jacket, playing a Les Paul. The Stones glammed him up and he played a cherry SG. What a difference!

Wonderful insights there, especially details on their gear, and on the evolution of the crowd! There was a span (1966-76 maybe) where people went to seriously listen to rock artists rather than scream.
Amazing how many of us have stayed cool after a lifetime of paying the bills and raising kids.

I just put the hammer on it," he said. "Luckily, I don't miss it, and that makes me feel good. Until I started rehearsing for the tour last August, and then I realized that I had 10 times more wind. A lot more air in the lungs and in the voice, more stamina. Otherwise, it ain't all it's cracked up to be," he joked. "Better than the alternative, man." He did use nicotine patches to help quit. They didn’t sing it. If I had known their playlist I wouldn’t have traveled, all the way from Far West Texas, to see them. In the past I’ve seen the Eagles twice, Jackson Browne twice, John Prine, BB King twice… I could go on and on, but apparently those who got to see the RS after their first concert got a better show. The second time I saw him, in Portland, Maine, he was on his acoustic tour and he more than made up for the first experience. Just him, a grand piano and about 20 tuned guitars on the stage. If you find yourself consistently leaving negative comments… The problem isn’t the free content. It very well might be inside you. I found myself doing the same thing and that’s not who I am. So, I addressed it. Coming from a good place -

Pathetic. Only 2 members of the original band are left, and the last good song they wrote is about 50 years old.
They should take their millions and do whatever it is washed up oldies but goodies acts do.

If anybody were to hear THAT from an unknown group, they’d say it sounds like s*** (which it DOES) - they were never exactly the greatest musicians around, but now, they simply need to retire - they’re just embarrassing, at this point - this was TERRIBLE……………
