I've read all the comments and what everyone says is right. You are incorrectly guiding others on how to do this using incorrect methods. Cement boards joints should be sealed, not just taped. Not sure how you've fixed the boards but that doesn't look right either. Tanking tape applied to the joints, screws, pipes etc. and then liquid membrane applied to the whole area, two coats, 3/8 pile roller. Just because this is how you have been doing it, does not make it right. It's great that you want to share information on how to do a particular job, that's what youtube is all about, but you are giving misguided information that will create issues for anyone following it. Hopefully they read the comments first prior to following your advice.
You definitely need to apply two coats to entire shower. Read manufacture details durock isn’t 100% waterproof it is porous like most cementitious material. And of slightly damaged it’s very porous.
Manufacturers will always write above what’s really required to cover themselves from a legal stand point. But in reality that’s not what happens in the day to day work. But yes you are correct it wouldn’t hurt to cover it all.
@@Daddicated nonse reply 🤦♂️ it has to have two coats or more as manufacturer specifications on thickness to be waterproof and you need to fill cracks with mortar/thinset and then Aqua Defense ® need to create a monolithic surface to tile on.
As a note, for cement board you need Alkalai resistant mesh tape. Ohhh, so you used a small screwdriver to get it open? I've been trying for 15 damn minutes to get the lid off and was searching for a video that showed how. I pulled off the tear away strip but had to use pliers and now can't get the rest of the lid off. I just went back and used that method and got the lid off and covered the surface I needed to cover (after stirring). Thank you! Hmm.. mine was a LOT lighter than this. and I stirred it up.
@@Daddicated Apparently Mapei changed the color to make it easier to see blue chalk lines over the Aquadefense. I was wondering why the colors were so different. same formula and all, just different dye.
Do you know if I can use AcrylPro 3-1/2 Gal. Ceramic Tile Adhesive with the Aquadefense? I have already bought the adhesive but I can return it if it doesn't work with this.
Just looked up the data sheet online here is what it says: - Not recommended for installing tile larger than 6" x 6" (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm) over waterproofing membranes and vinyl flooring. - Recommended for interior use only. Do not use for steam rooms, shower floors or underwater. For those installations, use CUSTOM® Polymer-Modified Mortar Systems. Okay all of this is wrong.... No ptrap, there is suposed to be thinset on seams and penetration, you never put it on thick because when it dries it will shrink and pull away from surface. You are supposed to hit seams and penetrations then do multiple thin coats on the entire shower.
This is way everyone says paintable membranes suck. Its because they are watching this video and their shower is failing within a few years. Atleast when it fails and you do it again you can make a video doing it correctly and take this one down.
How do videos of wrong application stay up like this. One quick read on the back and you will know how to do it right…thin set the seams, 2 coats over all cement board, optional seam band… If you ever ripped out soaked cement board you know it is not waterproof, this will be one of those showers
U really think it will be that bad? The bottom 2 feet from the floor is all waterproofed and that where most of the water is. Tops barely get any over spray.
Yes, what I think is bad is this is a “How to” video that people will watch to learn and it will show them how to do it incorrectly. Duroc is not waterproof and if you don’t take the correct measures to water proof it, you will see a failure and problems in the future. The blind leading the blind. Either put a disclaimer this method is incorrect and voids any warranties or take it down.
You're teaching people the wrong way to do things which will cost people a lot of money. Getting views or subscribers shouldn't be a deciding factor for not having bad content. Because you clearly don't get why this is bad.
@@Daddicated right but you're choosing to inform incorrectly with a video that is wrong because you're more concerned with getting views and subscribers rather than teaching correctly. Pull the video
Most people that are doing things themselves will watch more than one video. So I'm pretty sure they will be fine and they will do it the right way. Besides here is video where I show how to do it by covering the whole shower that they can watch. ruclips.net/video/t_rlm5UuKwU/видео.html
@@Daddicated and what if they don't watch other videos. How would you feel if people lost thousands of dollars because of bad advice you gave? Sounds to me you don't care.
@@ScalelordGaming It's not that I don't care but people need to take their own responsibility for doing thing. Plus, I don't think this mistakes is as crucial as you make it out to be. I've seen many new construction homes done this way in the past and I'm sure they are just fine. Majority of the water exposure is near the bottom so as long as that area is fully covered the top will be just fine. You do realize how much barrier a water dropped has to go through before it reaches a piece of wood. First it has to hit the grout, which is usually seal, next it has to go through the mortar, then through cement board, and only then it will reach the wood. Plus all those absorb water really well so instead of the water going thru it will try to spread with in itself. In conclusion, yes this way isn't the "proper" way but it's will be just fine and no one will lose thousands of dollars.

Take this video down if you don’t tell people to put thin set on seams first before the waterproofing membrane
Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure to do it the right way next time.
Yep - another future failure after the tile shower see's wet action!! He needs to take down this video.
@dennis Auyeung what is thinset? I’m going to be doing my shower soon and I don’t wanna mess it up

Yeah bro Lol the whole shower needs to be coated. Durock is very porous.
Yep, same 2 coats like RedGuard
Yup. Even the instructions on the website for using Mapei say to apply 2 coats.

The Brad Pitt turning hair slow motion is the money shot...
Ha ha. I had to rewatch the video cuz I couldn’t remember that was in there. Lol thanks for pointing it out. Lol
Use a roller and do not put a thick coat,2 thin coats the width of a credit card so it doesn’t crack after tiles are installed🤞
Thanks for the suggestion.
NOPE - you need to apply thinset mortar to all seams and screws FIRST. Water proofing goes over that.
Thanks for the feedback.
You buy a 50.00 bucket of that and barely use it. Use that shit. 2 coats, the whole shower. It blocks mold and you live in humid hell Florida.
Yeah I should of covered everything with it but u live and learn. Next shower covering the whole thing.
Lol paint everything with a roller
Yeah good idea. Maybe on the next remodel. Lol
Can I get a link for your shampoo!?
Whatever my wife buys me. Lol but try this one I hear it works wonders:

what kind of screws do you use for the durogard?
You can use something like these: amzn.to/3ohjqjl

Yeah there is. They make them before pouring the foundation here in Florida.
