    I have been Making something like this for years with my watercolor pencils. I have several travel books with colored square swatches of all my watercolor pencils that I can take on the go. I just take a small thin book of watercolor paper, and make squares of color with my watercolor pencils, i use a Sharpie to name the type and each color in my color swab journal book

    I love watching you paint in real time. You are a joy to watch and your coloring is so beautiful. I ordered a set of these because you inspire me! Thanks so much for this video. I've watched you use the colors in other videos and loved those as well. I sprained my ankle so will be binge watching older videos of yours as your videos always make me happy--I really love the oldest ones as it's fun to see where you started and how things have changed, especially love the videos you did at your desk.
    Thanks for the inspiration. Sandy

    :) glad to see folks giving these reviews! I did back it on indiegogo using another painter's link. She noted that these were a dye-based ink and not actually watercolors in her usage, so there is that. And that they are not archival.

      oh and she noted they did very pretty bleeds, being an ink. :D i do like some nice bleeds now and then

    I think this is a good cause to invest in. I already ordered my booklet and cannot wait till they are ready to send. the perks 8f tyese booklets are amazing, for the price it is well worth it, specially for international buyers since they have free worldwide shipping.

    The swatch book your friend made you is only about 1/6 of the size of the Peerless sheets. Mine is about 6 x 2 I believe. So there is plenty of paint in the booklet. It really is easy to take with you when you travel.

    I love to watch you paint. Unfortunately my craft area is basically half an old oak fold out dinning table in an alcove of my living room so can't switch to a painting project if I'm in the middle of something else. Hopefully when the shelves are hung I'll have more space.

    This is a beautiful flower and method. It seems you must spend a lot of time "listing" out colors before painting. It probably saves time in the long run because you keep your things organized in your studio. I usually just take strips of paper that I save from when I cut the size of watercolor paper and use it to layer and mix the colors I'm using on the painting I'm working on. You are really well organized.

    I got these a couple of months ago and brought them with me to play with. I was immediately frustrated that they were so bright and unnatural, and I had nowhere to mix them to tone them down. Thank you for the idea of some packing tape over a white sheet for mixing, and thank you for showing the red and green mix to show they can be toned down. BTW, I put a smear of color right over the color name to show what they look like swatched out without having to carry a swatch sheet along too. I will have to take another look at using these on the go again.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  5 лет назад

      they remedied the issue of nowhere to mix by adding a fold out laminated sheet to the back page. It is a little thing the t makes a big difference:)

    Great review Lindsay, TYFS. I actually made my own homemade version of these. I used my Brushos on Yupo paper. I've also used thin layers of tubed watercolor on gesso'ed (is that even a word?) watercolor paper. Letting them dry and using wax paper between. Goofy, I know, but your "frugalness" has rubbed off on me :-) Anywho, they work great, maybe you could do a little DIY video for something like this. Just a thought. :-)

    Thank you, Lindsey, great tutoring, as always. I received mine last week, did some swatches and some drawing, very vivid and transparent colors.
    One thing, I noticed that it leaves some "uncolored spots" as if the color was schrinking while drying, I had to touched it again as you did. Also:
    It says that it should last like a half-pas last. Beautiful flower !

    Your Peony painting is gorgeous! I just received my Viviva colorsheets (August 2017) and made a color swatch. I think they mislabeled (switched) the viridian and peacock blue labels in my booklet as the viridian is very blue while the peacock blue is much greener. Don't know if they did that in yours. Anyway, looking forward to trying it out.

    Your swatch looks so bright, almost fluorescent/neon for some of the colors (e.g. magenta). They definitely don't look like that on my cold press white watercolor paper. Makes me question if you add any filter to your recordings or somehow otherwise enhance brightness of all the colors?
    I love your channel and your work.

    I probably felt worse than you when you spilled that water. Did you fix it? I do hope so. I think you are so talented. I have trouble drawing stick figures! I do love to color in coloring books and have started to try blending colors with my prismacolor pencils. I haven't tried water colors though. Thankfully the weather is getting warmer. Almost time to plant the tomatoes outside!! Sean

    Your peony is gorgeous. I like the way they put those sheets between the booklet of watercolor. You said it was kind of like plastic, could it be Yupo? Or would that be cost prohibitive? Anyway, I really enjoyed your video.

    Hi Lindsay...I've been following u for about 1.5 yrs, love your channel. Im hoping you can give me a bit of advice. Up until recently I've only used acrylics but I have fallen in love Inktense pencils and blocks. So I was wondering if could suggest a few different mid range to high quality WC brand options that I might accompany the inktense with? Same with WC brushes? Are tube WC better than pan WC?.. thanks in advance!

    Would you say the colors seem similar to the Mermaid markers? Since they are both (maybe in Vivia's case) dye based watercolors? because I am tempted by these... but my budget won't allow it.

    Lindsay, love this painting! Do you know if the Viviva Colorsheets are only available at the link you provided? On a totally unrelated matter, I am relatively new to watercoloring but have completed a few paintings that people have expressed an interest in buying from me. I don't really have any idea how to set a price for these. Do you know of a formula for coming up with a number? Could I send you a photo of a few of my paintings to get your input? I would greatly appreciate any advice you could share with me!

    • @LycIrisAurora
      @LycIrisAurora 7 лет назад

      I know I'm not Lindsay, but the link is to the indiegogo campaign so these are basically in a kickstarter phase. If they don't get that backing then they won't get made for mass production I believe.

    Hi Lindsey! I love your florals soooooo much!
    Thanks for this review! I've been interested into these since you brought them up a while ago!
    I wanted to say that the I know you are comparing it off of the only like-palette you know, but , peerless sheets come in either a 5"x2" or 2.25"x2" so it roughly about the size of the viviva swatch sheets. What you have, is a cut down version of peerless sheets to make it more convenient to carry with you.
    Also, are you able to cut these Viviva sheets in a similar way for convenience?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 лет назад

      +Alexandra Manga I have realize the peerless come in larger sheets, I should have mentioned that in the video. I would not cut down the viviva sheets CU's there are only 16 colors and the come is a easy to use book. The older samples I might cut down so I can use the as they want to stick together.

    I looked for these Viviva
    paints online and see they are going to be $50. They are cute, look like lots of fun and way less messy. But at that price I can't justify purchasing them. Does anyone know if they will be discounting them?

      Great! The only place I could see a price was on the manufacturer's page. I googled them, but don't see them available anywhere else. They look like lots of fun. Thanks Lindsay.
      Update: I went to their facebook page and clicked on the shop now button and they do have a set for $15. That is way more affordable. I think the $50 set has 2 packs and 2 wooden cases and two brushes. I should've checked there first!
