    I've got zero expertise, but my guess is that executives are actually more important for securing huge rights deals than the players. These deals then allow the players to get lots of money . They likely work longer hours and actually have more pressure than players. Could be completely wrong.

      completely agree. AFL isn't an individualist sport like tennis, or basketball too, so the starts importance to the bottom line is less important than in those kinds of sports. For instance if Pendlebury didn't exist would AFL revenue have changed much? If Lebron didn't exist you could argue maybe it wouldn't.... Perhaps Buddy is the only real exception because Sydney markets and income are different.

      Agree, but he needs to put on size to complement his speed and power attributes. Danger often needs to break a tackle or two before bursting out, only size and strength allows you to do that. I like Holmes, he is good to watch.

    Maybe I’m being silly, but I think Bont will still be the best midfielder in the comp in 3-4 years. Look at how well Dangerfield is playing at 33, and remember that Bont is only 27. In fact a lot of players these days are playing their best footy in their early thirties, like Jeremy Cameron right now.

    Too many Clubs……. Soon to be 19 …… should be 16 no more. If there was 10% more of the income spread across 16 teams. Players would much better paid , football departments would be far better funded and the standard of players playing the game would be better. The draw would be far fairer. State level games would be stronger….. VFL, SANFL, WAFL etc.

    If Pendles actually thinks players like Dusty can't live a 'life' in Melbourne on 300+K a year then what is he saying about the quality of life for the vast majority of Australian's. The Median (average) wage in Aus is less than 70K a year. I'm not arguing that some players don't deserve more money, but the logic is a little insensitive and privileged. The argument from AFL players association shouldn't be about increasing the wages of the top players in the AFL but instead those that are either on base payments or even those in grades below. That will do the most to actually improve the quality of games over time.

    • @gussyboi_
      @gussyboi_ Год назад +5

      I think Pendles was more so implying that a Dusty-like figure of the game can't live a normal life in Melbourne due to their popularity and image. Not that he couldn't survive on a minimum AFL wage.
