- In this video I will be showing you my biggest workflow / recording secret.
I call it my live vocal fx chain.
This is something I’ve never shown anyone online how to do. It will drastically speed up your recording workflow, resulting in happier clients, cleaner recordings, and more revenue.
It really is a game-changer.
And what's wild to me is that I don’t see enough engineers doing this.

Nice! you can actually get the same effect if you put all your effects on the recording channel and just change that "POST" to "PRE" button beside the inputs to record dry vocals only
That’s coop too but I like the routing and how it automatically drops the audio track into the exact mixer track. Otherwise you’ll have to route each one individually after recording each take.

@@LarryOhh after I updated my fl I accidentally did something to remove the feature where it automatically puts in the mixer track. Now it puts in the mixer track but only the track where the mic is already in. Any help?

Yo appreciate you spreading the sauce out mane! 🔥I just got one issue at 5:28 I was looking for the fix to this very problem for ages, I followed your instructions to a clean white T but my recorded clips are coming out in the same mixer insert as the raw mic and not the hook like you point out in this video and this shit frustrating

Maan… this was the tutorial I’ve been waiting on… i have a similar workflow but I’m blanking on the common issue i have (only record once or twice a month)… something to do with the record (print) track and the effects track… i can’t have them both unmuted at the same time because i get some delay (even after adjusting the buffer) I’ll have to come back after practicing
you allways mute it. you need a interface with realtime monitoring or latency will allways waaaaaay to long. i am so used to that, i dont use monitoring even now i got gear that supports it. i mean, the sound comes direct from the region between my ears, why monitor it.

If I do another mix track for example the adlips I will need to route the adlips track to the record/mix track.
Same like the hook track?

When I record my vocals route to the recording channel. Also The vocals mute when I unroute the recording channel from the vocals. How do I fix this?

Great tutorial! I have a problem when I record tho.. whenever I put anything on the REC channel (even if I rename it or change the channel color) the vocal output is delayed. I use an external audio interface with 64ms buffer length (works perfectly when recording on an empty channel). Does anyone know how to get rid of this delay when using a vocal chain channel?
P.s. the delay is also present if I don't link the vocal recording to a different mixer channel straight after recording...
Hey Larry, how did you make the effects appear below your mixer instead of on the side ?
Top left corner of the mixer, there’s a dropdown arrow. Click it. Inside there is a size option, one of the bigger sizes shows the FX in the channel. Hope that helps sorry I wasn’t very specific.
what i noticed doing this was (using your video for example) on insert 3 if i turn off the autotune during playback the vocals become off beat so i have to keep autotune on the insert at all times i can lower the knob to have no feedback but cannot press the dot next to it to completely mute it and if i bring a recorded vocal to a new insert example insert 3 to 4 the vocal is completely off beat and horrid any tips ?

Unsure if you answered this already but I noticed you have your vocal bus slightly merged mono. Is that a personal choice or is that more industry standard?
Not all the way mono. Just a little to control the stereo field of the vocal because I want my beat to be wider but still have any vocal panning come through without being too wide.

Hi, can somebody please explain to me what "dub" is in this context? Why would Larry have a track called "hook" and other one called "hook dub"? I tried googling it and the answers are based on movie dubbing and stuff like that. Also, why would you want the vocals of the verse to be in a different track of the hook ones? Thank you in advance for your time.

Is there any way to do this without Hearing yourself on the headphones? (I record without hearing myself) and ive tried every loophole and still cant get it to work without hearing myself recording

Mute the channel in the mixer. Should still be hot when you record but you should not hear output until you unmute your recording。
Couple rappers I know struggle to rap when they hear themselves。
Just make sure you see waveforms while muted and you should be good。
You can also turn down the last channel in your chain bein routed from your mic input channel to the master
hey i use this exact same method but all of a sudden yesterday, my vocals don’t automatically route to one of the mixer channels that i want it to. it doesn’t get assigned to any channel and its just a dry vocal
i had that once, damn what was the solution. you can arm the recording track or sc it than it routes again.
