Here's how we incorporate year-round learning while still having a summer break! We use a check list system to make sure we all stay busy over the summer even after the school books are put away.

We are trying a modified structured schedule this summer. I love the freedom homeschooling provides us! I love encouraging our kiddos to offer to help out. The checklist is a great idea!
Each summer looks different for us but I love that about homeschool too!
I really like that checklist, I'm going to try and implement it!
It really helps to keep them busy APART from screens!
Great ideas! I love that "ask mom if she needs help" thing. A great way to get that random stuff done!
Oey. Video games and boys!! What is with that?! We don't even do intense video games, but when they play they turn into giant grumps when we finish. We actually swapped it out for "wrestle time" where the boys and I try to tackle and pin daddy 😂 it's actually harder than I would have thought!
We sort of do a "year round" schedule too, but it's lighter in the summer. As we finish subjects, they get put away (with exception of writing/reading/math, but we keep it light) and we do fun educational things. My boys actually wanted to jump into their science for next year (zoology 1, apologia) so we're doing that also.

With the travel we do we find a big summer break wouldn’t work but part of most ppl’s summer break includes Christmas and we take Christmas off!!! We love a winter break at this time of the year and our winter is hot just not as hot!!! I’m free flowing but I always go the the beach daily and my older kids love to surf so we do PE in the summer and here surfing is an official sport and counts!!! Bookwork is mainly independent and I have 2 who love to spreed it out so thru can enjoy the rest of the year!!!

I tried a Sabbath schedule this past year and interestingly it didn’t work for my daughter. 🤦🏻♀️ I was so bummed. I loved it! The issue was that each time we would come back after a week off we had a huge attitude issue getting back into it. I was not expecting that. Spring was the worst! 😩
So this Summer we’re doing some review Math and Grammar with some leftover curriculum pages we have laying around. Then in September we’ll do longer stretches of school before we break.
Oh bummer! I really like sabbath bc I’m always ready for the break… but I just miss full summer! Lol
Yes! With my son we have had no video games for one month then he has it just for an hour or so the other day and his attitude is awful. I agree it always put him in a bad mood .
I hate that! They love them so much so I want them to be able to enjoy them but then I wonder if it’s even worth it!
I’ve been trying to come up with a plan for the summer. We finished school a couple weeks ago but we had vacation and then last week was full of random stuff so now that we are kinda settled back down… I want some sort of schedule so they aren’t just couch potatoes all summer. I also think I’d like to adopt the year around schedule next year so I’m planning to start a bit earlier than I did this year. I had just said no screens til 3 but I cave and let them around lunch because I need a break. May have to go back to the drawing board.
I would cave early without my checklist! Lol
