Accidentally dinged my mirror cover backing out of my garage because someone in my household parked the passenger side too close to the door. The cover was cracked and I had to get a replacement part, but at least I learned a new thing on how to install/reinstall one of these covers.
Thank you so very much! I hit a recycling bin and didn’t realize the cap had popped off. I went to Honda and the service guy said there were no broken clips, but they would charge $150 labor! So I ordered the cap-which was expensive enough-brought it home, and looked for a video. Believe me, I like it! I also ordered the glass, but I can see perfectly well with it broken, so I am saving that until it falls apart, or I decide to sell the car. I find that mirror way too easy to hit...

Hey, you did a really nice job in teaching this. I think I'll try removing the cover on my wife's car tomorrow. The dealer wanted $70 for the cover and $50 to swap it out. Ours has a pressure crack because she hit a trash can. Duh. It has a buckle in it but It might be repairable, if I can release the tension. Btw, if something really hot was parked next to your vehicle, that could have caused it to deform, ie: melt. Thanks again.
Dave, tthanks for the feedback. It's a easy swap and will only take you 5 minutes but don't force it and only use plastic tools like trim removal tools.

A few things to note: that plastic is rather flexible and if you feel for the fasteners you can shift the mating pieces by squeezing the plastic in different directions and sometimes even hear a pop when it releases. When that happens, you want to put a shim in there to keep it separated. Also, you can pull the mirror first and that way you can release the hooks on the fasteners from the inside. The mirror has 4 wrap around type connectors that pop off with a little bit of prying. You will feel them pop free. Adjust the mirror so you can peek inside to see the white plastic mounting plate. The attachments are at the 4 corners, Upper left, lower right, etc. As the vehicle gets older, the plastic will get brittle, and I doubt the dealerships will tell you when they are broken, and just reassemble it with less connections, or they will force you to purchase the entire unit, which is still unnecessary. Thank you once again for making the effort to record and post your work for others to learn. I wish I was as gifted in that area.

You asked about what might have melted your mirror. If you parked next to a building with reflective glass during the day, the building can reflect and focus the sunlight, concentrating it like you would with a magnifying glass. You can feel this sometimes if you walk through a patch of light reflected from a building (that it feels warmer than it ought to). If that reflected light was shining on the side of your car, it could have partially melted the plastic on your mirror.

eBay is where I got the cover for the for mirror. Search * honda accord aide view mirror cover" and the also call it a side view trim cap. Good luck and let me know who's it goes. I got my painted directly on ebay but you can get paint in a can for $17 or so that is exact color. Let me know once you find your part.
If you have a blinker installed then it maybe a little more difficult. Is the blinker area cracked? Is there a replacement part? First find the part and that will point you in the right direction as far as your options.
You should alway remove the mirror assembly but that’s a lot of work and some vehicles it requires removing the door panel. Look on eBay for a replacement part. If you can find the a replacement then there is a good chance your can just pop on the new cover. I don’t what is damaged on your 2010 honda to give any more accurate information. It broke the housing but not the mirror and everything still works. I already have a replacement that I bought on ebay. The broken one should come off easily as it is no longer fully intact. I'm going to wait for some nicer weather before installing the new one but it should go as easily as it did for you. I appreciate your response and will let you know how it went after I install the new one.

My side mirrors melted as well…. we found out it’s the reflection of the sun off of the windows in the front of our home. We remedied the situation with a special film you can put on the windows to diffuse the light, by the way.

I got a new door mirror for my Sentra from a "body shop supplies" store. The part fits my vehicle. My intention was to swap the cover / skullcap for my old one, so that the color matches my car. It doesn't fit on there! I can't put it on in a way that it's flush and hard to remove. It slides off very easily. Why would this be?

Shon, if youe plastic mirror cover is broken and you take your time with a plastic trim piece all you to loose is 3 minutes if doesn't. But it could save hours. Just look at the new replacement part and if its just clipped, you have a greater degree of success
if you are replacing the old cap anyway. What about hammering or dremelling it and remove it in pieces? Not all of them come off as easy as yours came off.
I’ve been trying for like an hour and can’t get the bottom clips out on either side 😢 all the other clips came out perfectly fine just can’t get those two
The cover will be different but the idea is same. I was able to swap out the cover in under 5 minutes. Avoid force and don't use metal screw drivers. You can find plastic trim removers everywhere and I think there was a link in the video description.
The driver’s side mirror on my 2019 RAV4 “melted” in the same way. I have no idea what could have caused it. Dealership refused to replace under warranty. Claimed it was somehow my fault.

I am not sure however if you use the methods I show and just take your time with a plastic trim remover you will be okay, don’t use force.

You should alway remove the mirror assembly but that’s a lot of work and some vehicles it requires removing the door panel. Look on eBay for a replacement part. If you can find the a replacement then there is a good chance your can just pop on the new cover.
I don’t what is damaged on your 2010 honda to give any more accurate information.

Clips will break every time, ridiculous design to use flimsy clips. At least on my car.

Did you try and the clips broke or just forecasting?
@@RANDOMFIX already did the job. Broke most of the outer clips and one of the inner ones. The cover will stay on still but not quite as tight as it was before.

Make, Model, Year? Not important I guess. It shows up in a Tiguan search. Doesn't look like one. Not going to watch the whole thing hoping that the secret somehow slips out. 30 seconds is enough time that I'll never get back
