    you certainly know about blueberries Ken :-) nice to see you back my friend.
    I've save this to favourites and how timely it is too - was just thinking the other day about taking some cuttings (I have four plants of variety 'bluecrop' which I bought via the internet - they are growing well, but it would be nice to have some more!
    Thanks for sharing - take care

      I have also done bluecrop and patriot cuttings, 16 of each in pond baskets. Last time I used the old wooden box so this is an experiment to see if I can get more success.
      Things I have changed:
      Using boiled low PH water to spray and water the cuttings.
      Sterilizing the secateurs although I may have done that last time.
      I will be moving them into tunnel when weather gets colder, hence the smaller pots for individual varieties.
      Scraped most on the stem and used hormone gel for all of them.

    Very happy to have a video from you, and I am interested in the blueberries, how they do. Please give us updates when you can.

      I will do but it will not be until next year.

    The whole business of cuttings and pruning is still a bit of a mystery to me lol. BTW you might have got an alert saying I'd subbed to you today when you're thinking I've been subbed for yonks! I have ... but I've not been getting any notifications from you and several other channels. I found by unsubbing and resubbing you appear back in the side bar of channels I'm subbed to and I then get the notifications. RUclips eh! Lovely update. Thanks for sharing :)

      I did, I wrote a note on one of your videos. I think you may be the most subscribed person I have. :-) TY

    I bought a 1 foot blueberry plant two years ago and it's hardly grown, no berries either. In ericaceous compost as well. I'll try to take a cutting though 👍

      Not sure why yours has not growing.
      I did think about doing a bit on water PH in that video. I have measured my rain water PH over the last few months and it ranges from 6.5 - 8, I was assuming it would be lower.
      So I have started treating it to bring it down to around 4.5-5.5 as I think if you keep watering ericaceous (low PH) soil with Hi PH water the whole thing will end up at a high PH.
      Do you feed the plants? start in April and feed them once every month.

      Foot note: You need more than one plant to get more berries, try and get a few more of different varieties.

      Is your soil acidic enough? can you do a PH test on it. That can be a reason for no fruit.
      I am now treating the water I use on them and lowering the PH to 4.5 - 5.5.

      @@PlotToPlates Hi, thanks for all the advice on this, I'll definitely buy another plant then test the soil etc 👍

      @@allotmental. My advice is use moss peat with some gritt, perlite or vermiculite for good drainage (about 25%) I may do a video of me potting on the growing cuttings from 2017, I am thinking of adding some john innes ericaceous compost (soil based) to the mix.
      I know some don't like using peat but with the stuff we have to buy now being so unpredictable it is better to be safe.

    I've just done some cuttings, how long did yours take to root?☺

    Ooh! Look! They have fruit! FABULOUS! Do you have harsh winters? If so, how did you overwinter them?

    • @PlotToPlates
      @PlotToPlates  4 года назад

      We can have hardish winters, we are frost zone 7, we don't protect them.
      You have to have a variety that is compatible with your area.
      Do a search for "Highbush Blueberry Plant" and you will find more information.
      In fact, blueberries require so many frost hours to fruit over 100 hours in some cases.

      @@PlotToPlates thank you I am zone 6a. I was just wondering if you keep them in the pots do you protect the roots at all?

    • @PlotToPlates
      @PlotToPlates  4 года назад

      @@DOLfirst Yes we keep them in pots but only because they need ericaceous soil and out local soil is alkaline so not suitable for acid loving plants.
      No, no protection at all.
