The Honda CB900F was produced between 1979 and 1983, and it was the first production bike with a 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. The CB750F (that the United States got) and the CB900F (that Europe got) were issued at the same time. While the U.S. only got the CB750F in 1979, Europe got the CB900F. The CB900F was introduced to the U.S. around two years later, in 1981.
P.S. I was told that the CB750KZ, was issued in 1978 in the States, and that may therefore be the first one with a 16-valve engine. I am sceptical and not sure about this though, since as far as I know the 16-valve engine was introduced in '79. However, I felt I should mention such a comment here.
The featured bike is an FB (1981).
The video was filmed on 15/09/2019.
    Differences thoughout the years:
    1979 - First model: CB900FZ
35mm forks; conventional silver twin five-spoke Cornstar wheels; plain plastic bushes in swinging arm; brake calipers single piston type.
    1980 - CB900FA
Air-assisted forks fitted; swinging arm now fitted with needle rollers to improve handling. Wheels featured reverse Cornstar pattern.
    1981 - CB900FB
Forks upgraded to 37mm to reduce flex; cam tensioner revised.
Minor cylinder head revisions; brake calipers upgraded to twin pistons.
    1982 - CB900FC
Engine now rubber mounted. TRAC anti-dive fitted; stanchions upgraded to 39mm; previously fitted 19in front wheel replaced by 18in.
    1983 - CB900FD
Previously alloy engine finish now painted satin black.
Revised wheels fitted and passenger grab rail introduced.

Note: The U.S. got the CB750F, while Europe got the CB900F in '79 too, thus when I stated that it was the first to have a 16-valve 4-cylinder engine it can apply to just the CB750F if you are from the U.S.. The U.S. got the CB900F around two years later, in 1981.

Ever since I bought my black 81' CB750K off the showroom floor, and there was a black CB900F sitting there, it has become my dream bike. Even over my insane 04' Yamaha V Max. Great vid!

This bike reminds me of the Honda sabre 1100 except the sabre has a square headlight

Cheers. I agree, it is quite comfy thanks to its riding position and wide seat. 🙂

I loved this bike in the 80s, never had one though, I bought a GPz750 instead. I also had a GS850. Your bike is in great condition, nice to see this classic again!

Cheers! O wow you had a GPz! I'd love to own one someday. The GS are great too. I've never seen one in person though.
      Thanks for your comment. 🙂

@@oldschoolgrech Yeah they're both becoming rare. The GS850 was the most comfortable bike I've ever sat on, plus it was shaft drive. I really wish I'd kept it!

      Hi, that was 8-valve not 16-valve. 🙂

Widow maker was actually the nickname given to the H1 H2 two strokes because of their turn of speed, poor handling and inadequate brakes.

Nice clean bike Grech! Sounds great too. I bought a new 1980 CB750F when I was 23, but had to sell it 3 years later. I always wanted another F bike, so when a friend was selling a showroom condition 1983 CB1100F, I bought it as a 50th birthday present to myself!! Click on my Icon if you want to see some videos of my 11F.
    Cheers!

Not quite true, the CB900Fz and CB750Kz were both officially 1979 models but the 750 was actually launched in late 1978 making it the first 16v 4cyl motorcycle.

Cheers, thank you for your comment. I was told about this by another person too. Then it is probably true if one is from the US. Thanks.
