- Hey guys, it's finally here! My review of the Samsung NX500! Is this the best 4K camera for under $1K, check out this video to find out! Sorry about the audio in certain sections of the video, but I spent hours trying to fix it and this is the best I could do. +Nail-biter Dude this took forever to edit. The audio took about 30% of my editing time because it was messed up and I didn't have time to re-record (might have saved time in the end though VS all the post work). Plus trying to reduce my neighbor's music that they were blasting from being heard in the audio ended up making me sound like I was in a tin can. I learned some audio stuff making this vid though, but I don't think I'll film outside for a while for my more serious videos.

I had to sell my NX 500 last year got good money on Ebay, I filmed my mom's birthday party and when i was about to edit the footage after using the conversion software for an hour, i found out the clips had no sound! I You have to turn it on in the settings, it sucked! You make good tutorials, keep up the good work!

Ncie review, does it have a time limit on 4k and overheating like the RX100 IV?
+TechTablets.com It has a 15 minute recording time limit, and while the camera does feel warm after multiple recordings, I have recorded three back to back sessions (45min) with this camera without it shutting down. Hey Joe, nice review! Are you still using the NX500? I feel like this camera was made to be future-proof, and it's still ahead of the current-gen APS-C cameras.
Thanks, and yes I am! In my Panasonic G7 review I used the NX500 for a FOV comparison and I use the NX500 for my non-RUclips work. The camera is a little beast, but unfortunately Samsung cut support for the NX line. I will be getting a Panasonic GH5 next month and later next year probably the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4K.
Joe's Vids It's really sad that they pulled out of business so quickly because they had some killer glass, and unfortunately there aren't any adapters to use them with other systems.
i would say its the best photo camera i've used. but the night time low light video just doesn't cut it for me. I had to buy the 16mm pancake lens which added more to the total amount spent to slightly over a thousand. unfortunately, the pancake lens has a hard time auto focusing and keeping it constant. i also think auto white balance is a joke and auto iso is pretty awful too- especially compared to a sony rx100 mark 1. and ultimately the biggest pain in the ass is the limited codec. samsung needs to update their firmware to allow other movie codecs too.
+Kyle LeDotNet Yeah, I'm not a fan of the auto ISO for the kit lens. Going to try out the Rokinon 12mm next for low light wide angle shots. I am willing to give up AF as I usually prefer using manual control. Thanks for checking out the video!
i probably would have gotten the rx100 mark 4 , but it came out too late when my rx100 mark 1 broke. but the upgrade was good nevertheless. not sure if this was the right camera for me though. oh well.

I like the camera but my only concern recommending the NX500 at this point is it seems Samsung might abandon the NX camera line. So if you invest in the lenses for the camera expecting to use the same lenses with the NX500's successor, that may not come to pass.
How is this camera in low light?
+JDM3 I think it was around the 8:00 mark I mentioned that with the kit lens you can take pictures up to 3200 ISO, but for video only up to 800 ISO without seeing a grain filled image. I believe the best low light camera for 1K (at the moment) is the Sony A6300, but at that price you only get the camera body. I think it's around $200USD more for the 16-50mm kit lens.

The GH5 is definetely a big deal. But at the moment my budget is too low for this awesome cam. Well, maybe next year...
What 4K to 1080P downscaling software would you recommend?
+george g I edit with Adobe Premiere Pro. You can create a 1080p template (in Premiere called a sequence) then resize (downscale) your 4K footage to fit the template. You can do the same with other editing software like Sony Vegas. Also, Adobe announced later this year they will be supporting H.265 editing with their latest Premiere Pro CC, although they have not announced a date yet.

Thanks for watching! It is a great camera, but I can't recommend buying it anymore as Samsung seems to have ended production of their NX cameras. B&H actually has the NX500 and NX1 as discontinued. Samsung has not officially stated they have discontinued the NX line of cameras, but no new lenses or NX cameras have been announced. Also, if you can wait, cameras are amazingly priced around Black Friday sales. Last year the NX500 and the Panasonic G7 were being sold for around $500USD with SD cards and the G7 even had a mic combo.
Since I already bought this camera, I still plan on investing in it until my NX500 dies on me.

Can anybody help!!! I use Samsung NX500 and I can't find the way to sync the video from NX500 to PC it only work with picture. I don't know what to do with it anymore!! :( I love the quality of the picture and the video but I really really want to sync the video on my PC. Please help!!!
Hi, have you tried converting your video files from H.265 to H.264 using the Samsung Movie Converter?
No not yet. But I already deleted Samsung Movie Converter and now I can't find the disc that come with Samsung camera. Also try to download it from website but it didn't work. So I think maybe my MacBook is too old for this, Is it? MacBook Pro v.10.6.8. I bought it 8-9 years ago.
Does that LCD4 fit the nx500 perfectly? I am looking to get a sunhood, which one do you have?
+Code of Light Productions I don't have one yet looking to buy. Unfortunately I can't really find any sunhood that would perfectly fit flip screens like the NX500, as manufactures seem to cater to swivel screens where the velcro would fasten to the back of the screen. It is hard to get things like this in Belize so I will be shipping one down from the US when I can. If I need to modify the sunhood I'll make a vid about my experience doing so for future NX500 buyers who are interested in getting one.

thanks but no i do not want to speak to panorama mode, i discuss about the video mode specific in nx300 which had black borders 24p and exotic resolution of 1920x810p low bitrate but incredible resultthanks to tell me if this video resolution still exist in the menu of the nx500
+Rob Oliver Oh, that's what you mean! Sorry, no the NX500 does not record at that resolution. You can record at 4096X2160 and 1920X1080 at 24p though.

+Rob Oliver Do you mean a panorama while taking pictures? If so, then yes the NX500 can take panoramas.

+Neil Boiling Every shot was filmed with the Samsung NX500 except the clips where I actually showed the camera itself.
autofocus is better than any other cameras in the world however low light capability is not good. color is better than any other Sony cameras that I have.

+Marcell Pasaribu Yes the NX500 does have bulb mode. You just go to manual mode and turn your shutter speed all the way to bulb.

+Marcell Pasaribu If your main objective is to take photos, I'd probably go with the Nikon as you will have a much larger lens selection and a view finder. If you're looking to get 4K video or 720p @ 120fps then you get more range with the Samsung. Other things to consider is that the D5500 has a rotatable screen VS a flip screen on the NX500, and a mic input. My main concern with Samsung right now is that they may be ending their NX line of cameras. I really like my camera but I'm hesitant to recommend investing in the Samsung NX ecosystem and then you spend on expensive NX lenses, but no new camera bodies to eventually put them on to. That said, I'm probably going to buy some new lenses for my camera anyways.

+Anc hor Samsung is no longer supporting the NX line of cameras so while you can find the Samsung NX500 for as low as $500USD you will be limited with lens selection and probably no more firmware updates. Still it is a great camera and the Samsung community is busy finding hacks and modifications to improve the camera.
Honestly at the price range of the GX8 I'd probably buy a Sony A6300 over that. While the GX8 has a easier menu, and touch rotatable screen the A6300 has a larger sensor, much better low light performance and slog3.
Where can i get taht software movie converter?
When you connect the NX500 to your PC you will see the Samsung i-Launcher pop up. One of the software available in the i-Launcher is the Samsung Movie Converter.

+Monsterlover Yeah the crop factor is the largest on this camera VS the other 4K cameras. Try it out and see if you can deal with it, by placing the camera at a slight distance away from you. Depending on what you're filming it does come in handy at times though.

Monsterlover Yes 15mins for 4K and 25mins for 1080p. Hmm for close up shots of the toys you may actually like the crop factor. Also, let me know how the testing went! I'm currently uploading a 4K under 1K camera series right now and for record time of at least 30mins you will need to get something like a Panasonic FZ300, G7 or FZ1000.
+Average Adversary ok so I noticed it focused kinda slow but I do like it in low light. Fast motion is not great, it gets blurry. I think it's great for picture taking if your subject stays very still. I might have to get the Sony6000 ☺ and for vlogging the G7

+Ashton Grist Yes, for the review I decided to recorded and uploaded at 4K. Since then my videos have been recorded mostly at 1080p with some 4K b-roll downscaled to 1080p.

LX100 is MUCH better for 4k look at Dpreview sample comparison tool. But NX500 MUCH better in FUllHD.

+Tomas Av. From 2014 many brands has benn traying to cross over Samsung Nx1 and Nx500 but after many models has been hard... almost the Panasonic GH4 is under samsung models, thr colors and resolution details in Samsung so far much better!!

+bastian droguett It's nice...I use it sometimes but I honestly don't take a lot of pictures, I prefer video recording. The more seasoned photographers in a NX500 Facebook group I'm a part off also attached more expensive and robust hotshoe flashes to their camera.
