I was a close friend of Gail Kubik. When they held a memorial service for him shortly after he died they sang his arrangement. It was at Scripps College and the choir did him justice. We were all in tears at the end.
Hi Jeff, and thanks for stopping by. I did a bit of checking, and it looks like there are two albums by the Whiffenpoofs of Yale University, which include this song, arranged by Buck. One is 'Sing The Whiffenpoofs Assembled', (1961) (disc 1, side 1, song 5)(album ID 25); also 'The Whiffenpoofs Of Yale 1909 Golden Anniversary Album (1959) (Disc 1, side 2, song 4)(album ID 23). Good Luck and Best Regards, David
Hello, and thanks for visiting! I'm not aware of any other arrangement of this that Shaw recorded. He arranged all the songs on this album with long-time colleague Alice Parker. Best Regards, David
Thank you, Davey! Photo is from a trip to the Canadian Maritimes in the '60's, Prince Edward Island. Glad you enjoyed this RSC piece--superb group. Best Regards, David
My great grand uncle sang this in a men's quartet. The arrangement they used was by Dudley Buck. Does anyone know of a recording of that arrangement? If so, please use the reply option. I'm pretty sure doing so will then send me an alert about your reply. Thanks. Jeff
Hi David, That was fast. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, that is the wrong "Buck." The Buck who did the Yale arrangement was a Wiffenpoof: Robinson Buck. Perhaps he's related to Dudley Buck. In any event, if there is a way to listen to that old Wiffenpoof recording...who knows maybe it'll match the Dudley Buck arrangement. Jeff
One of my dad's favorite songs. I remember him singing it on long car trips when I was a child. I sang it to my sons at bedtime for many years...
The song is my favorite song since my middle school age up until at age 67 now.

A fine song
I've never heard this. Beautiful.
I'm glad you like it! The RSC was one of a kind.
Best Regards,
David

Listen to the Red Army Choir do this song. That’s right, the Red Army Choir.
