Venham turistas!

We’ve spent about four years of our lives in Brasil. We’ve been to the Pantanal, caught Piranha on the Amazon, seen everything in Rio and lived in São Paulo for 2.5 years. We loved it all, but Gramado/Canela is in a whole other realm. We loved the chocolate, Italian food, glass makers, Mini-Mundo, Caracol Falls and the gentileza of the people. A great place to spend some wonderful moments. If you really want to see an even different Gramado, go there at Christmas time. Incredible!

@@sergiomildner7903, they are also in other Brazilian states like São Paulo, but they mixed more outside the south with Southern Europeans etc. (in much bigger number) and many ones have already lost Germanic features, although they still can have German last names. In the South it's more common to see people with that almost white hair like Nordic people etc. because the concentration of people of Northern European descent is higher. When they are abroad probably nobody thinks they are Brazilians.

When many people think of southern Brazil, they already associate it with colonies of Italian, German and other European immigrants. But few talk about the rich history of blacks in this region and their influences to nowdays. One of the most famous stories is that of "Negrinho do Pastoreio" (something like "Little Black Shepherd" or "Black Kid Shepherd").
Negrinho do Pastoreio is a character from Brazilian folklore known in the southern region of Brazil. Of African and Christian origin, a legend emerged in the mid-19th century and tells the story of a slave boy who received a miracle from Virgin Mary for being an innocent who suffered with the punishments of a farmer. Like most popular stories, it has several versions. In one of them, Negrinho, after losing a race wagered by the rancher, received a punishment: to remain herding for thirty days a troop of 30 black grays. Twice the horses were scattered, but after lighting a candle for Virgin Mary, Negrinho found the lost horses.
In another version of the legend, one day the farmer ordered Negrinho to take care of some horses, but one of them ran away. When he returned, the master missed the bay horse and sent Negrinho to look for the animal. He came to find him, but failed to capture him. In this way, the master decided to punish the slave with many lashes and throw him into an anthill. The farmer decided to leave Negrinho there, certain that he was already dead. But, the next day, he was astonished to find the unharmed Negrinho, mounted on the lost horse, and at his side was the Virgin Mary, patroness of the little slave. Repentant, the farmer asked for forgiveness, but Negrinho galloped away happy and free on the bay horse.
Negrinho do Pastoreio is considered a saint of lost causes.
That's why even nowdays, according to popular tradition, whoever loses something and has difficulty finding it, lights a candle and asks Negrinho for help to find what he lost.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  Год назад +41

The livability of Brazil is pretty high I would say 7 out of 10 for black people. Police are still a big issue and dark skin is still widely discriminated against by the general population its slick and filled with micro aggressions that are obvious to anyone from outside of the culture....as soon as you speak English it changes up too lol. On the flip side that are lots of large black populations here...getting your hair done, making friends and connecting is really easy here even with the language barrier.
Costs are relatively affordable ...much less than the US but a tad more expensive than Mexico as a whole. Healthcare, clinics and private hospitals are accessible, inexpensive and plentiful. Food, fresh fruits and veggies are readily available and you can live really well in most cites for $1200/ month.
There are significant barriers. They have a kind of closed economy. Everything is digital and if you don't have a Brazil bank account you will not be able to fully access their economy. Although they have many different ethnicities and countries represented here there is a somewhat forced assimilation....You must speak Portuguese to do business, get your phone cut on, book a flight.. stuff like that. Finally there is the visa situation. You are only permitted 180 days per year and starting back up in October you will need a visa prior to arriving in Brazil if you are from The United States. I hope that answered your questions.

You normally need a CPF ( Kind of like a USA social security # ) to get a sim with Vivo, Claro, and Tim ( pronounced cheen ) being the main providers However I hear certain tourist spots in Rio De Janeiro offer Sim cards without a CPF.
The PIX ( picks ) payment system alot like the upcoming Fed Now but 3 years earlier requires a Brazilian bank account but hell it's quick and convenient with no transfer lag times like waiting 2 working day drama at US Banks.
🇺🇸 credit cards are widely accepted in many more places then Mexico even Amex.
Ubers are quick and mostly convenient However if you visit remote spots then your better off renting a 🚗 which can be easily done with a 🇺🇸 driver's license.

@@TheYarbros that is so true, the micro aggressions are horrible, this happens in the whole country but in the south is even worse. If i could explain to you the politics of Brazil in a way for you to undertand, it is like the northeast of Brazil votes for the democrats and the south votes for the republicans. And the south has more groups of na zi. The more you go north, the less you will experience racism and aggressions, but still exists in all states, even in the state of Bahia which has the biggest % of black people. That is really sad but we are changing it slowlly. We are lucky that racism is a crime in Brazil and homophobia became a crime which is inside the law against racism, its been 4 years now. What we need to do now is to educate the population, and we are doing it. The last 6 years was dificult because of the rise of fascism, people getting dived, polarization, even in their own familly. But we will make people get together and teach them to love. I have faith that we can do it. Thank you for honest opinion and pov.

If you are interested in visiting the most Italian region in Brazil, go to Bento Gonçalves (73 km from Nova Petrópolis) and visit the vineyards in the region, and also visit Antônio Prado (83 km from Bento Gonçalves), considered the most Italian city in Brazil .
After visiting the region of Italian influence, a suggestion is for you to stay in Cambará do Sul (180 km from Bento Gonçalves) and visit the region's canyons and then go to Urubici (182 km from Cambará do Sul) and visit the mountains of Santa Catarina.

The cities of Cambará do Sul and Urubici are small and with few attractions (they are for eating and resting); the main attraction is the wild nature of the region. Winter officially starts on the 21st of this month, so don't go to this region if you don't have enough warm clothes and the forecast is very cold (sometimes it can even snow). Great video! You managed to include a lot of interesting aspects of Gramado into this video! As a foreigner living in Brazil, I could relate to pretty much everything you had to say about it. It really is worth visiting and is, in fact, my favorite town in Brazil. There's something truly magical about Gramado!
