Is Air New Zealand Sydney Auckland Business Class as bad as you think? The seat is woeful, but the improved lounges and better food than anticipated turned what could have been a grim flight into one that was acceptable, albeit with considerable room for improvement.

Not much point in having a window seat if you can’t see out, plus the lack of privacy.

Sorry to hear about your previous experience with Air NZ. Disgusting that they did not even apologise for their inappropriate behaviour! Wonderful to hear you did receive an apology from a senior crew member. We too have experienced a similar encounter with a senior member in Business Class, at an airshow, displaying their latest aircraft. My partner sat down on one of their seats, whilst I visited the pilot in the cockpit and heard a senior crew member raise their voice at my partner. Both the captain and I were not impressed. I marched out to find out what had happened to find my partner was in tears. As it is she is a nervous flyer, this experience certainly did not help any anxieties. The other crew were amazing, noticed and apologised and showed us through the plane and sit down anywhere. There was no signage on the side that she sat on, to say display seats only. However they were on the otherside. The over reaction and yelling in front of everyone, was not acceptable, put us off flying Air NZ to London! We instead flew Business Class with Singapore Airlines, which we loved!!! Fantastic to hear your experience with this Air NZ crew was much more enjoyable and friendly wonderful accommodating service.

This is what happens when you dont have enough No-people on the board. Whoever approved this layout need to be kept away from all decision making processes.

Great video! Excellent camera work (the landing over the water..just wow!!!) and informative and entertaining narrative..loved it. What a nightmare you had on this previous flight. Great that crew was so sweet on this one. But no: never ever in my life would i book a ticket in this horrible C cabin..NEVER.

With so many feet sticking into the isle it's a podiatrists dream come true. For everyone else it's a nightmare. Hope everyone was wearing clean socks.

Whoever designed that seat should be fired. When I fly ( always in business class ) I get a window seat. And when I'm in a window seat I want to be able to see out of the window.

Brilliant review! What a great view you can have if you’re an owl ! 🦉 🤣 Sounds like the crew are trying their very best .. alas they can’t do much about the seat layout.

Great review - I’ve flown them several times hoping it was just me in a bad mood but the seat and the staff were not good - the food was quite good but until they change their attitude and domitory seating at outrageous prices it’s a NO from me

I’ve used those seats on many flights. They’re not that good for a short daylight flight but fold down into a 6 foot 7 inch flat bed, that with a mattress and duvet becomes the most comfortable bed in the sky with your head away from the aisle. Considering long transpacific and Asia flights they are great for sleeping. I’ve mainly had good service on board but you get the occasional up themselves martinet but ANZ are good at responding to complaints.

I'm presently searching for a flight Sydney to Vancouver for later in the year. Together with my wife we choose to fly business. On watching and listening to your comments with regard to the positioning of seats in the 787-9 Auckland to Vancouver I'll need to do some further research. Cost of flying direct Sydney to Vancouver is currently very expensive. Thank you for your submission.

I know it was a short hop, but you should have flipped the seat down and tried the bed. Most airlines just extend the recline until the seat is flat, so you are sleeping on a rather hard converted seat - but ANZ and Virgin (same design) have a proper soft mattress on the reverse side, which I find rather comfortable on long-haul.

I liked the video, however I'm not sure how big you are but I'm 185cm and 100kg and have no issues with the "narrow coffin class" Air NZ Business seat. You mentioned the seats are not private. I disagree. I'd much rather have my feet at the aisle rather than my head and I don't mind not being able to see the clouds behind my head. I understand the airline is about to upgrade the hard product soon and I hope they stick with the head away from the aisle style. I'm one of those people that deliberately book the widebody from Sydney to avoid the smaller planes.

Just flew this syd-akl-syd this week. Wish I had seen your review before booking. I'm 6'3" and found the seat very uncomfortable. I'll never purchase this again. The service was really poor and we had no little package of goodies. I *hate* the seat layout. I couldn't see my partner nor out the window. I am not vego but chose the vego option on the AKL-SYD leg and it was terrible. My screen had a major scratch and was filthy. I had to clean it myself

Forgot to ad - the arm rest near the screen on both flights was broken - it was depressed and meant there was no where for me to put my right arm. On the first flight the staff were clearing everyones main plates when they realised they had missed serving me my main. I eventually got it but after everyone else finished their desserts. Seats 3J and 3K
I will never pay for Air NZ Business again

It was only four weeks ago (!) Air New Zealand finally lifted the mandatory face mask rule (in mid Sept 2022), and I recorded this just before the mandate was removed. So, pretty current, but slightly changed this month.
