He wrote some of the most beautiful melodies ever, and mostly for films and TV. His particular genius is sorely missed.

Just his presence was amazing. My future wife and I in the late sixties attended a Mancini concert in the basketball coliseum at UGA. We were seated on the floor near the stage and as he began the evening a wanna be hippy long hair couple got up and started throwing a frizzy back and forth. Catching them out of the corner of his eye he stopped the orchestra mid phrase, turned to the couple on the floor saying “let me know when you have finished. I would hate to detract from your performance. The crowd roared in support then booed the two hippies who slunk away while he continued. What a master.

The surviving musicians from this concert are now in the 70's or 80's (or older). The remainder are with Henry in Paradise, making the angels smile.

I think he was the returned soul of Beethoven. So, HOPEFULLY he will return again. Both did amazing things with music.

MANCINI ESCRIBIO ALGUNAS DE LAS MELODIAS MAS BELLAS DEL CINE.- MOON RIVER, TWO FOR THE ROAD, SUNFLOWER, EL ARBOL DE LOS ENAMORADOS, DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, EL PASEO DE LOS ELEFANTES, LA VIDA A TRAVES DE UN VASO DE CRISTAL, ETC,ETC,ETC,ETC.-

The transition to Days of Wine & Roses, then to Moon River was the best. The horn heavy finish to Moon River was, well, heavy; not untypical for the time of a recap of the master's hits. He still wrote the best movie music of anybody, regardless of what some list says.

I'm more of a fan of his theme to Charade (no voices) his theme to Experiment In Terror, that long percussion track in the Hatari soundtrack, the Mr. Lucky Goes Latin Album....you get the idea...
