I use mine with the 43mm Limited lens and it fits so well in the hand. Image quality is also superb.

Getting a diopter for the finder is a revelation. Even if you don’t use glasses (as I don’t) there is a certain amount of eye relief with the right weak diopter for the finder, that makes it that much easier to hit spot on focus.
It’s the combination of a diffused, bright and enlarged viewing screen that makes for a good finder.
It’s easy to get bright if the finder is essentially an enlarged Brilliant finder.
Likewise it is easy to make it nice to focus with, by “just” very finely ground glass, but that requires a lot of light to be easy to use.
Enlarging a screen is pointless if it’s dim or doesn’t contain depth information.
Combining the above three traits is what’s important.
Huge coverage doesn’t really matter that much as long as it’s over ninety percent.
Coverage also changes with the focal length used.
A glasses compatible finder usually involves not too much enlargement.

I like ur vids; recently fell 4 an all-black LX in very nice external condition BUT with sticky mirror (like, a good 1 sec delay sticky) & missing blue flag in the viewfinder display. The tech cant fix it quoting lack of parts 4 the strip-down .. & he advised against the common hack with sticky mirror as temporary & performance likely 2 deteriorate. What a shame .. i got some nice "glass" & the actual user manual 4 it. Wondering if anyone's reached out 2 Pentax Japan. Am leaning 2wards an MX now .. all mechanical reliability & repairability. Last point; view-finders r interchangeable! Also LX stands for 60 as in 60th anniversary.

Interesting info. Wow. Good to know about the LX. I'd recommend the MX. Love it and its viewfinder.
Also, for me, if you want to use the LX, if you can shutter it a dozen times and it stops sticking, it will work until it sits at which time it will stick again.

So if you have a sticky mirror in the LX, you can still get it fixed?

I picked up a Pentax LX with 3 superb primes for $12.99 at a local thrift store. It's in beautiful condition although it does have the sticky mirror and the Automatic mode seem to be malfunctioning at different shutter speeds. The LX is a beautiful looking small SLR camera as you say.

Sticky mirror and malfunctioning auto mode - that's why it was only $12.99 - it'll cost ten times that much to repair. Beautiful looking though!

The LX is a camera I’ve wanted for a long time, I finally purchased one last year that had had a cla but when it arrived it was eating batteries like they were going out of fashion ( new to dead in 48 hours even with the meter switched off ). I sent it back for a refund and I’m now a bit concerned about getting another. I still use my MX and SP Spotmatic though for my Pentax lenses, the Super Takumar 50 f1.4 is one of the best fifty’s ever made in my opinion.

You are confusing the finder coverage, (wich is 100% with the F3 while the LX has 98% horizontal and 95% vertical) with the finder magnification wich is about 0.80X on both the F3 and LX.
I've got both and like the LX more than i do the F3 but find the F3 more reliable than the LX.

      Ok, thanks for the clarification.
