    Good morning from Kentucky! I just love it when I do something and the day after I watch y’all and see that I’ve done wrong! lol I just put holly tone around perennials yesterday! Dang! Y’all might want to talk to your ambassadors that advice that. I’m still a new 3 yr old gardener. I’m going to UK to get a soil test. Love love the show! Thanks I learn soooo much!

    I used to be a gardener that wanted lawn perfection and wanted my neighbors to have lawn perfection. Now I apply Milorganite on my lawn and hand pull weeds (satisfying). I am so glad my neighbors do not put poison on their lawns too! I used to resent that my neighbor did not rake his leaves as they blew into my flower gardens and lawn. Now I greedily use them after I grind them up as a free winter cover for my vegetable beds. You see I discovered that gardening extends to the birds, butterflies and bees which I adore as much as my plants. Thanks again for a thoughtful program.

      Have you used corn gluten to prevent weeds in your lawn? Some weeds are good for you. Plantain, dandelion and clover though clover is a good source of nitrogen for the lawn not us and rabbits just love it! ❤🥰

      I love this! We tend to do more than necessary and when we learn more, we often learn we don't have to do as much as we thought! Thank you for watching ☺

    If you struggle to grow butterfly bush, due to too much moisture in the soil, plant the crown above the ground level 2-3 inches. Mound up the exposed roots to make a little hill around it, with a little moat around it. Do not cover the crown. Do not water the crown area. Water around the hill. The crown is the area where the roots and branches meet.

    My son is a forester in Vermont. Unless they are sold for lumber, trees remain on the ground after they are thinned.

    Gossiping gardens know all the dirt. Where I live now the original dirt was from a glacier then an outrageous lush forest added plenty of organic matter. Down were my garden is was logged a few years back and is very compacted and takes weeks to dry out in the spring, I’m making raised beds, by scrounging bits here and there, every few feet to soil is different with lots of different kinds of rocks. Every garden I look into every thing looks great. It’s a rainforest so I assume it’s acidic. Where I use to grow in New Mexico I had over 1000 Iris varieties they did great in the alkaline soil, here it’s way to wet for a lot .

      Wow, that's awesome how familiar you are with your space and its history! 1,000 iris varieties?! Amazing! 😍😍

    Never got a soil test bc the plants seem to do fine except when they get a pest. My montauk daisy shrub was not doing well at all. I cut it back. I don’t think it’s a water issue though we did get a lot of rain in 7a. But it turned brown and no buds. Otherwise as the plantings I have done over the years have been growing I only watch for pests. I have not been able to do as much garden care bc I have gotten busy outside of the home. But it seems the neglect has not harmed my plants. I love going out to cut the flowers and put them in vases now. Hydrangea black eyed Susan Rose of Sharon sedum. Nice to bring the outdoors inside ! Good info today. Informative guest!

    I have discovered the jumping worm in several of my beds. I’m trying not to freak out. I’m in Kentucky zone 6. What will this do to my soil.

    • @pwcolorchoice
      @pwcolorchoice  17 дней назад

      Jumping worms will consume the organic matter and degrade the soil - they can certainly be a bad pest, there are a lot of sources where you can read about them, like this one, extension.psu.edu/look-out-for-jumping-earthworms
      I was also able to find this resource for reaching out to your area's local biologists to report and talk with them about this, fw.ky.gov/More/Documents/privatelands_biologists.pdf

      I would definitely encourage you to get a soil test to know what conditions you are working with, looking up your state's cooperative extension is a great way to do this!
