I literally watched as my Nan died at the hands of those dishing out the Liverpool care path - there was NO CARE in it, she was suffering and she was lying in her own urine, cold and thirsty. WHERE the HELL is the dignity in this...she was crying out in pain and kept asking for a drink of water. If I hadnt been there she wouldve been IGNORED. THIS in a hospice too.

Don't go down the road that Canada has gone. My mum lives in Liverpool. She is 91 and was recently in the hospital. Mum is totally in her right mind and is normally healthy. Twice she was asked if they could withdraw food and water from her. She told them no. She went home after a couple of weeks restored to health. My parents paid their taxes for decades. They deserve decent hospital care.

Horrifying to know that only because of her age, they wanted her to stop living!
I wonder if those people who live into over 100 do it only, because they do have family around them... 🤔
Because this must be common practice if she was asked twice during her stay.

I have progressive ms. Final stages are horrible. I don't want this death to be long and frightening, where eventually I can't swallow or eat by myself. Why would anyone choose this. It's easy for healthy people to argue against it. And as for the argument that ' oh the final stages were horrible but she loved every minute of it 'even sounds awful. I want to die with dignity, it's my life it's my choice. The reason the deaths in countries that allow assisted dying rise by so much is because people from countries that won't allow assisted dying go to countries that do allow them allow them to die with dignity and not suffer

  • @2trichoptera

Best intentions, as with Canada, where currently euthansia is the 5th commonest cause of deaths. Think on that. Too open to abuse. Doctors cannot state have 6 months to live, its not precise. Some will go in 2 weeks others in 2 years. Far better option is excellent palliative care, but unlikely to get improvements there because this law will be in place (& cheaper option). Roman Catholics know this is a mortal sin, so at least they know less likely to see the abuse - because we know woupd never accept it. Wonder if likely to see a lot of disabled & chronically ill converting to Catholicism?

Extremely disingenuous arguments being made, that doctors will suggest and recommend ending one's life. Doctors in the UK are forbidden from suggesting private healthcare despite waiting lists being long. We have very good medical ethics, the state and NHS will oppose assisted death, they will only fulfil a request that comes from the personal choice of the patient.

The Rabbi in error says there is no merit in suffering. Christ died on the cross to redeem us, hence he showed us that the cross is the means of our redemption. Just because people don't believe it, doesn't make it less real. If Christ is who He says He is then there is a God and there is judgement and there is heaven and hell and no amount of denying it or having an alternative opinion will change this reality. It is something we all need to consider! Only Christ claimed to be God and only Christ rose from the dead! His way of life has built Christian civilisation and all the benefits that go with it, now we are squandering it!

Not everyone believes in God, not everyone is suitable for palliative care. I'm left with terrible mental health issues of guilt because of my mums death. This lawyer has absolutely no idea what he's talking about, he is basing death on his faith.
