Though I will never pay 800+ for a jacket or 200+ for denim I do appreciate the math lesson. It has helped me establish how long I need to keep items in wardrobe rotation for them to be cost effective.
I mean this in the best way: this is the first time I’ve watched a youtube video on finances where I didn’t feel like the person was talking down or “mansplaining.” So many people giving financial advice seem to be disconnected from real people, so thanks for keeping it grounded :)
These prices for me are standard. For people who are used to buying fashion 250 for pants is nothing. Go withing your budget and what you feel is right
What you are saying is spot on... Some other points to consider. Building a wardrobe takes time. I have bought extremely expensive Italian, English, French pieces of clothing in my twenties (YES... Saved up) which I still wear today, I'm nearly 50, and they're still perfectly fine, wearable and relevant. Buying good quality, if well maintained just lasts. But there's no hurry. A well considered wardrobe is/should be fun and enjoyable. The other point to make and something very close to my heart is the absolutely horrible, fast fashion industry. Take a look at what goes on in the manufacturing of fast cheap fashion. It is massively environmentally damaging and hugely exploitive. People, children are literally dying for cheap nasty fashion. Also, I just love saving my hard earned dollars and finding those beautiful, timeless pieces and researching, learning and supporting all these wonderful old trades and crafts which goes into design and fashion.
A jacket that costs 8x more than a regular jacket is not made with materials that are 8x better than an ordinary jackets. Look after your clothes and you will still be able to use it for 5 years even if it costs $100 and you will not be wearing the same jacket for so many years because you will have enough to buy 8 different jackets with that money. But this is a great video for those who are looking for an excuse to buy expensive things!
Ur exactly right man .. that balenciaga shoes are not worth it because it does go out of style and ur exactly right “buy something which u can’t get in the future but has a style” Wishes for more subs man 🤘🏽🤘🏽
LOL I have the same exact Balenciaga Sock Sneaker you showed. Love them. Super comfortable. Not as trendy as they appear. Once paired with jeans, they kind of look like Nike (but not really). Just saying they're not trendy; they are sneakers.
@@ParkerYorkSmith WOW. I paid $795 plus tax for mine. I still like mine even with the pricey price tag...LOL. I've done knock off's. The quality and fit just isn't there. But if I were someone who was admiring your Balenciaga knockoffs and didn't know they were fake, I'd be impressed. At the end of the day, for me, its the fit and quality I'm after.
The advice went south when he said figure out realistically how many times you are going to wear that item. Who really knows? By quality constructed upgrades of things you already wear a lot.
Respect that thought, but you’ll know. If it’s denim or something you wear a TON you know you’ll wear it a lot. If it’s a trendy piece that you’re interested in but not sure how often you’ll wear it, maybe it’s not a smart buy
Parker York Smith Trainers/Shoes, Jeans & Jackets. Those are the items I’m willing to go above and beyond my budget for the right items. Everything else I try to seek out the better brands on sale.
It just seems like if you have to go through all that to justify buying something then it's probably too expensive. Unless you can find a store that'll let you pay for it in 300 instalments 😂😂😂
Haha valid point. But it’s not so much about whether you can afford it, it’s more about whether it’s really worth it to you in the long run. If your cost per wear is super high maybe it’s not worth it
You cant put a price tag on this, if your a millionaire and have the means then why not spend on what ever makes u happy, is a ferrari worth the cast no unless its a collectors piece, if yout not going to spend your coins and not going to do nothing with it your better off being broke, some people have the means but dont have the balls to spend other people are living on pay check to pay check and saving up for this, their no investment in this if u can afford to wear the stuff like u would buying cheaper clothes then by all means otherwise stay in your lane
Thanks for this video. I just bought a pair of black wingtips (full brogues) and I'm trying to see how to style them. Can you make a video on brogues, especially black brogues and how to style these kinds of shoes? I tend to be more casual and like to wear jeans so just seeing what could work. #askparker
WHAT’S SOMETHING EXPENSIVE YOU’VE HAD YOUR EYE ON??
Love your vids man, you remind me of a bachelorette contestant (theyre all good looking dudes)

Of course! I’m def not a financial wiz so I appreciate you saying that
Good way to look at it. Save up and get what you really want. Costs more but in the long run it’s a better purchase.
Exactly! Thanks so much for watching Steve

Such a great point and advice. This is what it’s all about.

I agree to a certain extent. Good points tho!

Totally respect that. It’s great that you already know your style. A lot of guys are still learning what they like
interesting way of calculating “cost” of wearing
For sure, easy way to decide if expensive is worth it
Short and straight to the point!
Yes indeed!! Thanks for watching
They're not worth it
Facts
I think you're kidding yourself dude! 😂😂😂
John Kelly why?? What do ya mean?

So if i buy a 1000 dollars shoe and wear them every day for five years the shoes are cheap?
Haha no! But you got your money’s worth. It’s a way to judge if the shoes are really worth it
@@ParkerYorkSmith Great answer!
