- Welcome to my channel. Join us as we travel by bus from Johannesburg to Malawi. This was an incredible experience with alot of learning and unlearning about Africa, as we passed through Zimbabwe and Mozambique before reaching Malawi.

Thank you for making a proper well edited video, I’ve seen others that are just unwatchable, the other one was travelling from zim to Cape Town and a whole 2 min was spent on us watching him eating a chicken piece, imagine a whole 2min of him eating chicken
You are inspiring me to travel more. I have only been to Zimbabwe, very beautiful natural sites. I want to go to Lesotho next.

This is one of the better and more informative videos on this particular bus journeys through Africa. Well done. Not good to know though that you had to pay exstra to get to Blantyre from the border. To wait 6 hours exstra was not told before you bought the ticket. Then playing music loud all the way, eish man. Thanks to your vid, one can now be prepared for a journey like this. Think i will do this off season and hope the borders are less busy.
You summaried the trip so well 😂 Yho it was definitely a journey but so worthwhile. In retrospect, yes going during peak season was not the best time so during the year would be more calm. But I don’t think the bus experience of the music would be any different 😅 Thanks for watching ❤️

Malawi felt really safe for me. There are quite a few Indian owned restaurants and businesses in Malawi so I think it would be safe for you too.

How much did you spend on the trip all together sis?
I love to hear it! 🥹✨ Are you from Malawi? 🇲🇼 I will say you have to be strong willed to get through it but it’s totally worth it. The bus going there was R2400, the return was R1450. We moved around quite a bit from Blantyre, to Zomba, Monkey Bay and Finally to Lilongwe so there was a lot of transport costs. We used public transport most of the journey. But accommodation was quite reasonable. I’d say altogether, an estimate would be R24000 for 2 people, including food. Bearing in mind that we are vegetarians so the diet and lifestyle is quite different than the average traveller. ❤️
@@bakerlikeanita I’m from the states but my fiancé is from Malawi but lives in Joburg where we met and live. I been telling him I want to visit but I didn’t even think about taking the bus there. I usually fly everywhere but plane tickets are soo much more expensive now especially for two. R24000 is not that bad for two ppl. I’d like to travel to those places as well.
What would you say was the 2 most difficult things about the trip?

We also took the bus because flying around the continent is really expensive.
I’d say the most difficult thing about the trip is just the perceptions we have of each other as black people. As South Africans, it was assumed that we have money (more than Malawians) and people thought we were tourists, but we see ourselves as just travelers exploring our homeland. But perceptions take time to break down. So I’m sure being an American would make you seem even more wealthy. So the locals can put pressure on you for money or even overcharge you for travel. And the devaluation of the local currency in recent months also makes it more expensive as everyone is desperate for money. Linked to that, what was also a challenge is the transport system. We chose to use public transport throughout the country, to save money and to have the local experience. But the mini bus taxis take long to fill up and they also overload the taxis to maximise on the use of fuel, which is expensive.

The name of the Company is Ulemu bus services. There are lots of bus companies to Malawi in the CBD on Kerk street

@nqobiledlamini2496 we exchanged it on the bus on the way there - only about R500. Then we withdrew the local currency at an ATM when we arrived.

On the bus just before we arrived in Malawi there were merchants who got on to exchange our cash

Just your passport and some cash for the border gates. They sometimes ask for other documentation like COVID Vaccination but they actually want cash. Thanks for watching ☺️

@GangDigitals because our currency is generally stronger, they do prefer Rands
U missed a lot of important places and info. There is alot of room for improvement madam. Check how other traveller's do it
