I actually know of a case where a 17 year old girl was going out with a 33 year old man with the full approval of her parents. It seems a bit weird but then again someone old enough to drive a car on the roads can hardly be considered a child. I think perhaps this father overreacted to a relationship he disapproved of. I would have said no to it but not gone so much out of the way to prevent it.
