This will be my 1st bike packing race. The time limit scares me shitless. I’m a short distance racer who’s not conditioned for this kind of race, but I’ve started my training build up and ordered Mark Beaumonts books😊

More great analysis. The MO is going to be a super long ride. I really enjoyed the 2023 Pan Celtic (some type 2…), felt like a proper adventure. I’m sure everyone doing 2024 will have a great time.

Another great video, thanks Josh. Gutted I couldn't fit the PCR in again this year, as it has the most amazing "clan" atmosphere.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about other races, like the PCR, that are manageable for relative bikepacking newbies (unlike the TCR, for example). What else would you recommend for 2024? Thanks

As a commuter cyclist, I am looking forward to this event. Providing my bike turns up at the start. Unlike 2023, where it decided to remain at the airport and I waved all the riders off. For me it will be a slow bikepacking trip to experience some good pub meals. This is totally acceptable in the Pan Celtic Race. the whole aim is to get everybody out on their bikes to have an adventure. Its one of the few ultras where you can take your e bike, if it takes your fancy. With regards to JamesWongs question about the base route. Midges and traffic are just an obstacle that arrives in all ultras. Like 40 degree heat and flash floods that the TCR has endured. It will be nothing like the Silk Road Challenge. It is not necessarily meant to be pleasant all the time. Only some of the time.

Just saw this. Signed on for this one and am a little scared now. You should give consultations for a fee on this stuff.

For those not aware, Heysham is next to Morecambe, next to Lancaster, so on the edge of the Lake District.

I'd be interested in more about the base route for the race - it seems that it takes in a lot of the NC500 route plus Skye which is notoriously narrow and got a lot of road traffic in summer (plus midges) - not sure how enjoyable that would be compared to the lesser travelled routes of the past

As much as I would love to do this ride as an American, it's embarrassing to be an American. People have told lies, they have taken credit for rides they have never completed, pretend to be somebody they are not. I assure you, at 51 yrs old I'm in better shape then most. I don't want to be around jealous people. They are cruel and lazy.

I do not know what you are referring to when you speak about being embarassed about being an American. You will not find jealous, cruel, lazy people at a clan gathering. On the contrary. But for the 2024 Pan Celtic Race there are riders from at least 20 countries, afar afield as far as New Zealand and Canada. Yes, riders are are also travelling from the USA to ride as well. This is the last Pan Celtic race in this format. But I would not be suprised if the clan chiefs have something else up their sleeve for 2025. Over the past 5 years they have gathered a community of riders who turn up every year to more than one gathering. It is inconcievable that it will not continue.

@@stevelindley2041 in the United states, they refer to cyclist as peddle files. Riders are being hit, including myself. I have been told it's easier to hit a cyclist. They collect the insurance money on a rider.

I ride and exercise because I enjoy staying healthy. Lots of fake people.
