  • Imposter Syndrome has affected me longer than I've known it had an actual name. It's taken a lot of time, but I feel like I have a handle on things now.

Thanks for pulling back the curtain, the doubt is very relatable

💜💜thanks for talking about this, you are not alone and opening up a conversation about this is part of the path. You know I got mad love for you and it’s been so inspiring seeing your amazing progression over the last few years. Never, ever, ever, write off anything you’ve achieved as merely being lucky. You are not lucky: you are hard-working and capable. Don’t ever question it.

I really appreciate you man 🤎
I've spent a lot of time working on reminding myself those very things so the "voice of doubt" is a bit quieter these days.

Honestly you've pretty much voiced exactly how I've felt for most of my adult life. My professional career has taken me to other countries just the same but I consistently find myself questioning if I really deserve the opportunity. I always have to argue with myself about anything good that happens to me. I've also been working to get better at dealing with my imposter syndrome but some days are harder than others. So thanks for talking about it, I'm glad to know an individual I follow feels like I do. And I hope we can both overcome the struggles that imposter syndrome brings.

We are not alone at all with these feelings. I'm glad you're making progress! Idk if I'll every not have it, but I know I'm dealing with it better than I have.

“…and everyone’s been laughing at you the whole time…” mate that was the perfect analogy. Like you peeked in my head (danger!!!) and pulled a line verbatim from my self-talk.
Me before therapy, looking at my issues: “maybe she’s born with it?”
Me today: “maybe it’s automatic negative thinking and maladaptive coping mechanisms!” 🤣😩😭
Thanks so much for talking about this. It’s so good to know that I’m not alone. :)

I can totally relate and it's so tough to work yourself out of your own head sometimes. It took me being really honest with myself to pick my own habits apart to understand WHY AM I LIKE THIS haha. It's so much work but ultimately worth it imo.

@@winslowxyz of course it’s worth it! Frankly, it’s brought some things to my attention that are a problem across my whole life, but I didn’t have to confront them in the same brutal way that music production has forced me to. Which sucks but is also a gift, because addressing it here will ripple benefits through my whole life. ❤️

Thank you for sharing Duncan! I have the biggest respect for you talking about topics like that. As someone struggling with depression I find it inspiring to see other artists talk about their experiences and stuff they are dealing with. Someday I will be ready to share my experiences as well but I am not there yet. This helped a lot though. Gave me confidence to share my story in the future. Big up!

It's something we all go through for sure and the best thing that's helped me is talking about it. Either out loud by myself or with friends I feel comfortable around. Always around if you need someone to talk with :)

Dude, I get amped up whenever you pop up on my mixes. You're my go to for vibing. I know it's easier said than done, but I hope you can make an earnest effort to not maliciously self-criticize. Know that no matter what you've got people who seek out your music for good times. Be proud that you bring good times for people :) You don't want people who don't like your music anyway-- they don't have an ear for deep listening and are (generally speaking) superficial sticks in the mud. Keep your spirits up my dude ✌️

@@winslowxyz I feel ya dude. I started working at a private ophthalmic practice with no prior experience-- it can be very easy to let my mind go into overthinking mode. The quicker you catch yourself overthinking yourself into submission, the easier it is to stay back on the right track I find. I look forward to hearing more creative content from you and hope you have a blessed weekend

Thanks for doing this video dude! I can relate with most of the things you experience. It's all too easy to talk ourselves down and make little of our art. Inner Coach Vs Inner Bully... Sometimes we listen to the Bully and talk to ourselves how we would never talk to others we love.
Tony Coleman did an interview recently for FMM where he said that Imposter Syndrome is essential to a degree.
"If you are feeling like you're an imposter and no one's gonna listen to you. Well how can you be an imposter if you're being yourself? And as long as you're being yourself and being true to yourself, there is no fakery. And that's all you've got at the end of the day. All you've got is you. And what you do with that is up to you." - Tony
From how you explained in the video, it sounds very much like you are combatting imposter syndrome with authenticity and being true to yourself, and I think that's the way to do it. There's something exciting about removing the weight of expectation from yourself as an artist and just creating something because you love it, and it's you.
Anyway huge appreciation from me as always dude. As an artist, content creator and generally as a person I think you're killing it and imo deserve more success than you're currently seeing (although I strongly believe that it will come your way or that you will reach it, as long as you continue on this path keep giving it your time and energy).
Absolutely looooove your style musically (it's pretty easy to overlook our own taste/style right?....because it's what we're used to... It's just what we like) but to others it can seem like the smoothest/interesting/exciting thing that they haven't heard before or that they want to hear more of.
I could talk all day about this subject but this is already an essay. Thank you Winslow... Keep being Winslow 🙏❤️🙌
