For decades I avoided Gretsch, thinking it's an old man's guitar. Then I was lucky enough to acquire one and now I have four! Gretsch makes great, great, versatile guitars!
@@jixxxxer17 You know it depends. In the studio it's fair game. But for live I think I prefer one of my Duo Jets. Just because it's semi solid and a bit smaller.
I've owned two old Country Gents; a '64 and a single-cut '60. I would love to have either of them back today. I still play a Gretsch 6120 '59 reissue, and I love it, but I miss those classy old Country Gents.
Thanks for this! After all these years, you've exposed the mystery of how the knobs and switches work!!! I've been handicapped with this, and didn't even know?
❤ I love all Greg's guitars mine especially is 1960 is the g6122 1959 model and you can see that one on my preview on my on my picture on the on the thing here so take a look at it I love 3:15
The banter between these two gentlemen is fun to watch. The Country Gentleman is a totally marvelous guitar. I was able to upgrade to one after seeing my Electromatic 5122. That was a great guitar, but the Country Gentleman is so much more. I wish I could play it as good as done hear, but it has improved my playing. I like it to playing a guitar with an automatic transmission! It's that good.
I found one of these at auction, with the case, everything inside.. I came here to see what all those switches were about… thank you… now I know, it was just the kill switch.. great video!
I had a bif orange version of this guitar back in the mid 60's. It had only one mute, however. I bought it used for 300 bucks, and sold it a couple years later for 300 bucks. It had a great neck, but the tones were somewhat limited as I recall. Anyway, that is what I thought, and why I eventually sold it.
Gregs a mutant freak o' nature! My middle fingie is 3.25" long or I would play like this! ok maybe not but I am structurally compromise since birth. Gregs finger are longer than Jimis? Robben Ford too has super long fingers. My only hope is guys like Danny Gatton with short fingers that overcome our limitations. I think Gregs ring finger is longer than his middle one?
Elvis did play the G6122 Country Gent, but he also played an assortment of other guitars including a Hagstrom V-2, a Gretsch White Falcon, some other Gibson hollowbody, and even a Fender P Bass.
Why, when they reissued this, to such an excellent, and accurate extent, did they put the (wrong) "G" in the headstock inlay???? I have a 1966 Country Gent, and have owned, or seen (friends) other Gretsch guitars, from that same time period, and they ALL had the flat top/squared off "G" in the Gretsch Logo! So, WHY the rounded version, that is historically incorrect?! :(
What exactly is it about the zero fret that affects the string height and such? I know there's a reason for it, but I don't know the technical aspects.
The sound hole decals are just stupid. Who would've cared about that? If they were'n't on there it would be fine. IDK why they felt like they needed to fake it.
3:00 you really need to eliminate that horribly sounding riff for demo purposes. Play something that sells the guitar, not make you cringe man. It’s not even pleasant to listen too
Joe's passion for Gretsch guitars really shows and I never seen anybody that can play the Chet Atkins style with a regular flat pick better that Greg!
You should see Joe play. He's pretty good himself.
Have one of these. Passed down from my grandfather to me. Such a beautiful appearance and gorgeous sound.
+Mfw dead You sir are a very lucky ducky
You are extremely lucky.
+Mfwdead You're so lucky, I am so bloody jealous! :P
i bet it did not have tV jones on both ~!
@@ed.t.hansen6499 my first guitar teacher in 63 had a few of same vintage Gretsches! Love to hear a vintage on up against a new one.

do you have a favorite Gretsch out of your 4 ? I'm shopping for one and hard time deciding , Peace !

@@jixxxxer17 One last thing. IMO and my Luthier's opinion, you can't go wrong with a good Gretsch
@@justiceforall6412 Thanks !
What a beautiful looking and sounding guitar

Best guitar ever made.
Would adore to have one .. And thanks a lot for the information about it :)
I love the attention to detail of Gretsch

Wow, amazing instrument and some really nice playing as well.
Thanks guys ;-)
Greg, you are a master on that guitar.
Greg! amazing playing, man!
Man, those dual mutes ARE a trip!
I haven't had a case of gear lust this bad since....well I just haven't.
I have to have this guitar if for no other reason than to get that "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" sound.
I love the absolutely minimal use of the little finger lol!
Dang you are one BAD mother on that guitar. What a treat. Cool axe.
Does anyone know what song he was playing at 8:30? or was it just improv?
It's a Chet Atkin's tune called, Windy and Warm.
A comprehensive "how-to" on the -59 would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah! But can he play "Wipeout", Har?
lol shtoidal and doidal. I love it
Always wondered what those “ mute” things did…
What is the best strings , in general?
The one you feel most comfortable. Depends on the guitar scale length and what you like to play (bend or not, jazz -> Flatwounds, etc.)
The ones that you think work the best for the sound and feel that you want
i want one
Another cool fact about the guitar. Only electric Elvis owned and played on stage
Elvis did play the G6122 Country Gent, but he also played an assortment of other guitars including a Hagstrom V-2, a Gretsch White Falcon, some other Gibson hollowbody, and even a Fender P Bass.
Actually he did play a Country Gentleman. You can see it in the 1970 rehearsal footage where he plays Little Sister and Get Back.
Tabor Morin He played a Fender Coronado too.
"Blessed your twistted heart..."

I may have to put s set of those pickups in my factory second Epiphone Lucille, just to watch the world burn. I bet it would sound sweet!
Dig it
i could never play it as pretty as it s
zero fret? :c
What exactly is it about the zero fret that affects the string height and such? I know there's a reason for it, but I don't know the technical aspects.
as far as i have researched, a Zero fret will have less intonation problems and better action than a conventional nut! Nice!
too bad the comfort piece-back pad is junk now --from Asia.
First off , absolutely horrible intro guitar riff. Very bad

Wtf is up with the music at the start, so weird
God learn to play guitar
